Best Freshman and Sophmores in NKY

Featured Replies

Kids are not asked to try out for teams in high school. They either tryout or they don't. I can tell you that Willie is not going to walk through the halls begging kids to tryout for basketball.

Hate to disagree with you, but i know 2 kids at HHS that were ask to try out

Well let's here who they are. I am very interested to know. Who exactly asked these kids to try out?

what about Jake Smith and Brandon Alford for Newcath....

Maile for CCH.

Brandon Housely is back at Newport

Brandon Housely is back at Newport

Is this the kid that rode the bench last year at Holy Cross?

Lewis from Clay county is a good player

Can't speak of the Sophmores but as for Freshmen, if I were selecting a team it would look like this:

perimeter players:

1.) Sheena Giwa - HC - unquestionably the best in freshman class

2.) Mitch Shover - Cov. Cath. - best shooter in the group

3.) Josh Conner - Highlands - plays all positions and the toughest kid you'll find anywhere (ran the football for HHS varsity in state tourney)

post players:

1.) Matt Coffman - Campbell Co. - best post scorer & rebounder in freshman class

2.) Kurt Russell - Ryle - quiet kid, just gets the job done inside

I would fill out a ten man roster with:

1.) Steve McFarland - Boone Co. - great playmaker at the point

2.) Jayce Jordan - Conner - only knows one speed & direction - full speed at the rim

3.)Steve Helmer - Ryle - can shoot the three, drive the lane, 90+% FT shooter

4,)Pete Albrecht - Campbell Co. - 6'5" shot blocker and good defender

5.)David Darnell - Newport - 6'5" strong rebounder with a great shot

And that leaves out some great NKY. players like:

Luke Maille - Cov Cath. - strong all-around game

Jeramie Connor - Conner - streaky 3 pt. shooter who had 11 treys in AAU state tourney game last year

My apologies to Mason Co. fans. I know you've got a great team but I'm not familiar with your players individually.

(BTW, Arkansas Brewer of Newport, while a good player, does not come close to making this list.)

Jeramie Connor has transferred to NCC

David Darnell is not a freshmen... and if he is he would not be allowed to play basketball this year...

He was in January 2006 which is when the post was made.

Dakota Euton (6'8") Freshman and Chad Jackson (6'4") freshman from Rose Hill Christian School in Ashland are most likely the two top freshmen in the state of KY. Both are very talented and know how to play the game the right way.

My bad...I looked and that date and everything ... just posted the wrong thing... I meant to put ..

Its a good thing Arkansas is not close to being on this list... because he is not a Freshmen (or was not)

So Ark is back at Newport correct? They will have a strong Frosh class from what I hear.

Boone Co. & Ryle have strong freshmen classes this year; along with Highlands and Newport I would consider these schools having the strongest freshmen classes in NKY

Correct....Very strong backcourt with Brewer and Brandon Tucker it'll be interesting to see what other players will step up.
