Holmes 76 Beechwood 73

Recommended Posts

Huge win for the Holmes kids, nice crowd in Ft Mitchell tonight, it was a game of runs, Beechwood was down 71 to 62 with about a minute left then they hit some huge treys and Holmes made some big free throws down the stretch, I think the last two years the district has came down to a blind draw for second thru fourth.

Holmes did almost everything right after the first quarter when they missed a ton of layups. Took care of the ball, made solid passes under pressure and made free throws. When they got the lead they made the Tigers play man-to-man and drove the ball. Beechwood made a great comeback but Holmes made all the right moves to get the win. Impressive win. Draud never missed a good shot- just didn’t get many.

Not sure of they changed the tie breaker rules after last year but think it was determined by a vote last 2 years. Someone else on here may know.

The result of the Holy Cross/Beechwood game on Feb 10th now will determine how things will fall.

Wasn't it just a few years ago that there was a 3-way tie for first and the other two let CovCath have the #1 seed?

If Holy Cross beats Beechwood on Feb. 10th the Indians would lock into the #2 seed. If BW beats HC all 3 teams would be 1-2 again like last year.

Unless of course Covington Catholic is knocked off by one of the teams right?

I believe it becomes a blind draw with a 3 way tie. That is how it was determined last year.

Holmes is hosting the district this year. It is CovCath's year to host but are moving it to Holmes.

Beechwood had the momentum in the first quarter and looked to be in good shape. The big kid who hit the stick back got into foul trouble early and that hurt Beechwood and Holmes chipped away.

LJ Miller did a really nice job chasing Draud tonight and didn't give him a lot of space. Miller also hit two big shots. He hit about a 30 footer at the horn at halftime to cut the lead to two. He also hit one from beyond halfcourt at the horn at the end of the 3rd quarter to push the lead from 8 to 11.

In the 4th Holmes was able to spread the floor, split traps and drive to the basket or dump off for layups.

Beechwood made one last push and Brannen hit a couple deep bombs to trim the lead to a 2 possession game, and got a steal and left a 3 just short or the lead would have been 2 points with under 20 seconds to go.

Tough spot for a district game for Beechwood. Sandwiched between the All A Region Title and the opener of the All A State Tournament.
