Inside the 12th Region 1/23/17

By SHS Future - 12th Region Basketball It was more district play this week as many of the teams are meeting for the second time this season. West Jessamine traveled to Mercer County, Southwestern played McCreary Central, Pulaski faced Casey County, and Garrard County played both Boyle County and Lincoln County. As the districts start to take shape there was also a lot of other action in the 12th Region last week. Here is a rundown of this week’s 12th Region rankings and review. 1) Pulaski County (15-4) – The Maroons only played one game last week, but it was a win over 47th District foe Casey... Read More →

8th region re-cap 1/23/17

By 8th Region Warrior - What a week for our teams in the 8th region as they picked up some impressive wins against non 8th region foes. Many people in the state took notice as our top teams have proven they are dangerous at Rupp, while our middle teams are capable of upsets on any night. January as I have said is a brutal month, you get kids sick, hurt and most of your parent complaints unfortunately and it doesn't matter if your team is successful to the January complainers. Weather has been pleasant but with that comes a lot of sickness. Big seeded district games and jockeying for position is taking place to... Read More →

Inside the 13th Region (01-23-17)

By Les - 1. Corbin (14-3 overall, 7-1 vs. 13th Region opponents) The Redhounds saw their four-game win streak get snapped on the road after falling to Knox Central on Friday, 93-80. The two teams have now split with each other with Corbin coming away with a win at home on Dec. 30, 2016, winning, 76-71. So why isn’t Knox Central No. 1 currently? You could toss the names of corbin, South Laurel, Knox Central and Harlan County into a hat and pick one, and you couldn’t go wrong with them being ranked as the top team right now. With that said, I’m going with the Redhounds because of some of the bigger... Read More →

Inside the 3rd Region(1/23)

By ApolloFan98 - With about a month remaining in the regular season, the regional picture is nearly as wide open as it was back in November. Apollo seems to have established themselves as the team to beat the rest of the way, but its a very muddled picture behind them. The region still seems like it will run through the 9th district when all is said and done. Hancock County has a nice record, but they will need to prove they can hang against top contenders in the region. Meade County should also have a say if they can get healthy before the elimination games begin. 1.Apollo Eagles(15-2) – SAME – The... Read More →

Inside the 6th Region (1/23//2017)

By coachlee - 4 weeks remaining in the regular season before district play begins and for most teams that is 8-10 games to post their final records. Now is the time to be playing your best basketball and getting chemistry together for the post season run. Last week there were a few games that clarified the picture, but for the most part the top teams are going to stay pretty much the same. Here it goes.... 1) Fern Creek (19-2)- One game is all the Tigers had and that was at JTown this past Tuesday. The highly ranked team coming off their LIT championship showed no signs of slowing down as they... Read More →

Inside the 16th Region - Week 8

By All State Baseball - 1.Elliott County (14-1): The Lions continue to impress people. Having won 8 straight including winning the 16th Region All “A” Classic. Their opening first round game in the KHSAA All “A” State Tournament with Paris should be nothing less than a barn burner Thursday night. 2.Boyd County (15-4): Boyd County has won 5 straight and 6 of their last 7 games. During that stretch, the Lions have outscored their opponents 558 to 447, that’s an average of 80 points a game and only giving up 64 points a game during that stretch, that’s filling up the basket in a hurry. 3.Greenup County... Inside the 14th Region - Week 8

By All State Baseball - 1.Perry County Central (16-5): The Commodores are one if not the hottest team in EKY right now and at the right time as the season winds down. The Commodores have won 7 straight and 8 of their last 10 games, 6 of those 8 wins, have been by double digits. One thing is for sure, if the Commodores can keep this up, they’ll cruise through the 14th. 2.Knott County Central (13-7): The Patriots hit a hard place their at the end of December / beginning-middle of January where they had lost 4 of their 5 games in that stretch, since them, the Patriots have won 3 straight including a big 78-67 win... By All State Baseball - 1.Hopkinsville (16-4): The Tigers continue roaring, having won 9 straight since their last loss to Brentwood Academy back on December 27th. Can the Tigers keep up the good work or will they eventually slip and fall? 2.Christian County (14-4): The Colonels must have some rocky road ice cream in their system because they’ve hit a rocky road, losing 3 of their last 5 games. 3.University Heights (10-10): After a rocky start to the season, UHA seem to have gotten on the right track, having won 5 of their last 6 games. Both of their region losses have came against both #1 Hoptown and #2... Read More →

By ChiefSmoke - This email was sent to AFCA members from Todd Berry, who has taken over for Grant Teaff. Thought it might be interesting for some of the BGPreps faithful to get a look at this. Inside the 7th Region (1-19-17)

By PurplePride92 - News and Notes: Not much changed this week as Trinity remains #1 in the 7th Region despite losing two of their last three games. Trinity lost to Fern Creek in overtime in the finals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT) and then dropping a tight game to Oldham County. Trinity is still currently the class of the 7th Region and have likely moved on from these past two losses. Ballard made it to the semifinals of the LIT where they lost to eventual champion, Fern Creek. Despite that loss Ballard is till lurking in the shadows of Trinity. At this point of the season the only way... Read More →

Huge game against North Hardin looms on the horizon for John Hardin to make a statement... Read More →

The value of the past and moving toward the future

By ChiefSmoke - I am writing this blog before our Perfection Workout this afternoon. What a blessing to be back in my hometown and getting ready for another season of football in central Kentucky. I am especially excited because we are renewing some old local rivalries, like getting to go to another Boyle-Mercer football game. I have been to several of those, especially in the 70s and 80s. And, we are playing at old Harrodsburg HS(Alvis Johnson Stadium). With the improvements made in the bleachers, lighting and playing surface, there is no better place for a HS football game. As I sit here with my... Read More →

By Jesse James - The past week came and was gone with not a lot of surprises on the front of Kentucky High School girls basketball. Butler continued their quest for a second straight Sweet 16 title this week by beating both Ballard and Mercy. Male traveled to Nashville to compete in the Music City Classic that had some of the best teams in the Eastern USA. As usual Male was very impressive with wins over Providence Day, NC and Memphis Central, TN in convincing fashion. Mercer County bounced back with a good win over Top 10 Franklin County and West Jessamine. Mercer has probably the hardest schedule... Read More →
