⚔️ The Valkyries of Sacred Heart remain at the head of the class in the Commonwealth.

1️⃣6️⃣ WOPR has sorted through the Ratings by Region and Bardstown has supplanted Bethlehem as the leader in the 5th. The remaining Region leaders are unchanged.

⏰ I'm late to "press" with this update of Professor Massey's ratings of teams based on games played through last Sunday. #1 Sacred Heart has lost three consecutive games at the Nike Tournament of Champions this week. There are other terrific ongoing holiday tournaments as well, so it'll be interesting to see how MR evolves in future rankings. 

⚠️ Massey does a terrific job compiling data within Kentucky and all of our border states, and it's great to have a reliable in depth source for rankings. However, there are some gaps one will notice. The Professor's W-L records  will vary from the KHSAA's for games played outside of their coverage area. I've added a screenshot below for clarity.

Interesting, even as a strong PaNDA fan, they are definitely not a top 5 team in the state. They are better than the pre-season rankings but not nearly Top 5.

🐼 As a longtime fan too, I agree. And as a realist, believe #1 in the 9th is a stretch as well. Clearly a top 20 team though, and maybe ~10-12 is more likely imo.

All the human polls and computer models will sort themselves out as the season progresses - it's why I note incremental changes from week to week, and a single thread will let us see them over time.

🚨⬆️1️⃣ George Rogers Clark is the Commonwealth's new #1 in Professor Massey's latest girls basketball ratings. 

The lone undefeated team among the Top 25 (9-0), the Lady Cardinals swept through this week's stout lineup at the "White Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic."

Previously top ranked Sacred Heart lost four straight in Phoenix at the "Nike Tournament of Champions." Though the competition was for the most part nationally ranked, I think the final loss to St. Francis (GA) was what ultimately sank the Valkyries to second place. 

Coming off strong performances at the "Queen of the Commonwealth," there are two new Region #1s as well. Champion Cooper (KY #3) is at the top of the 9th Region. Runner-up Meade County (KY #10) now leads the pack in the 3rd Region. 

From the mountains, Pikeville has climbed from No. 9 to 6 to 4 over the past three weeks.

Thirteen Regions are represented in this week's ratings, so great basketball is being showcased across the state. The 9th Region this year again has a high concentration of excellent teams - Cooper, Ryle, Notre Dame, and Holy Cross on this list, with Dixie Heights and Highlands also in the Top 50. Only Louisville's 7th Region comes close to matching the depth of quality.

🔴 George Rogers Clark remains the #1 team in The Bluegrass State this week. The Lady Cardinals went 3-1 last week in their visit to Tennessee. Three-time defending State champ Sacred Heart was idle last week and remain in second. Pikeville is continuing a strong showing from the mountains at No. 4. Northern Kentucky is well represented with #3 Cooper, #7 Ryle, and #8 Notre Dame.

There are no seismic shifts in the statewide Ratings, though Anderson Co county, Corbin, Covington Holy Cross, Franklin-Simpson, and Franklin County continue to percolate towards the top.

🆕#️⃣1️⃣ New Regional leaders have emerged in the West. Owensboro Catholic returns to the head of the class in the 3rd Region. Franklin-Simpson, a newcomer to the Top 25 two weeks ago, has overtaken Bowling Green as the new leader in the 4th. 

☝️👇 Two teams on the fringe of the rankings this season continue to duck in and out of the Top 25. Ashland is back at #21. Montgomery County is #26.
