After seeing Tilghman against Mayfield a few weeks ago I would agree they still have the speed and do have enough talent to have a much better record than what they do...what they don't have for some reason is heart and determination. Whether that comes from the top down with Coach Wyatt...or whether or not the team is still divided after the way Coach Wyatt was hired with no interview process or other coaches being interviewed after Coach Thomas left this Tilghman team will not go very far until they can find a way to come together. On another note...the Tilghman coaching staff has to find what type of personality this team should have as they are still searching. Also looks like they need to find better ways to get the ball to their playmakers as one thing we noticed is the lack of use with the Forrest kid at WR...you have a 6'4" fast receiver that can jump out of the gym and you only use him once or twice on just go patterns is not the best way to use a type of weapon such as Forrest. The QB Cox has a nice arm...Edmonds is a tough back, and the Brown kid is a nice weapon at either RB or WR....they just need to find a way to get some type of chemistry and like playing with each other. If they can do that they should be fine inside their weak district...if they can't...well Tilghman will be the team you look at and shake your head at with all their talent, but could not do anything with it.

There was over 9,000 people in the stadium Friday night according to Fire Marshal's office Saturday morning. That was including all the people in the stands, players, coaches, and all the people that were tailgating in the end zones plus standing room only tickets that were sold. Once it hits 9,000 people the fire marshals office had to close the gates.

Lone Oak should win...but I wouldn't be surprised to see it closer than what people think as Graves County does a good job of playing keep away with the football with their wing-T offense.

Nice to see Coach Fowler get the win...then again I am related to him...lol. Nice job by the Rebels. Good luck to them next week.

Jonathan had a good game...played mostly on defense as Murrell was back healthy for Mayfield on the offensive side of the ball. I don't know about the Wilson kid for Graves County. A hard fought game by both teams and a great high school crowd of over 10,000 plus people as the fire marshall had to close the gate due to the overflow of the crowd. A great city-county showdown game...the way a high school game should be played...hard hitting between the lines and whistles with no cheap shots by either squad...two classy programs and two classy coaching staffs.

Congrats to Crittenden County on a nice win over Webster County. Good luck next week against Caldwell, stay healthy and hopefully we will both be undefeated come October 23rd.

If we can get by Graves County this Friday night then we should be undefeated coming into the October 23rd matchup at Marion. While we have learned to play one game at a time...this team is looking forward to getting another shot at the Rockets. IF healthy Mayfield should have the speed advantage and after talking to some of the Crittenden County fans the one area of their defense that really worries them is their pass defense and that is what Mayfield has really done well in the early season. It seems like the Rockets have really found their place offensively with the Berry kid doing a great job at running back and of of course J.D. Gray is playing extremely well and he is the kid that gave us fits last year. After this Friday I wish we could skip the next three weeks and jump ahead to October 23rd as barring any major hiccups we both should be undefeated in the district and probably still #2 and #3 in the Class A polls. It should be a great game and should set up the location for the possible rematch in the 3rd round of the playoffs if both teams make it that far. Good luck to the Rockets and like Mayfield I hope that both teams come in completely health into the much anticipated matchup in late October.

Crittenden can name the score in this one...Webster has really hit rock bottom the last couple of years. Main thing you hope for in these games is that that no one gets hurt

You should worry more about Bowling Green this Friday than Mayfield

Receiving leader in the state is #7 Xavier Shelton from Mayfield with the following stats thru four games 21 Catches 603 yards 7 touchdowns And I know he doesn't lead the state...but Mayfield QB Guhy is 41-76, 861yds, 9 TD's and only 3 INT's.

The healthy part is what worries me going into Friday nights game against Graves County. At the start of the season tailback was our deepest position with Murrell, Noonan, and Jackson...and now heading into the game against Graves Murrell is still nursing a deep thigh bruise he suffered at Tilghman, and Noonan is probably out for the next couple of weeks with a severe sprained ankle. Jackson is a beast as a freshman...but only having one healthy back worries me a little going into this intense rivalry game. Good luck to both teams and hope both come out healthy heading into the district portion of their schedules.

Who wins the crosstown battle between 4-0 Mayfield vs. 3-0 Graves County. Should be another good game between these two. I say that Mayfield wins with their speed...if we don't get anyone else hurt and can get rid of the flu bug against the Eagles. Graves will try and keep the ball away from Mayfield's speed using their Wing-T style of offense. Mayfield will need to shore up their defense and not let Graves nickel and dime them up and down the field. I say Mayfield gets enough big plays and wins 35-14

A nice win for the Cards playing without star running back Tyresse Murrell on the offensive side with a thigh bruise and flu this week...and lost backup running back Decole Noonan with a severly sprained ankle late in the first half after one of the most impressive runs by a high schooler as he bounced and spun for a long TD run to give the Cards the lead. Mayfield went with 3rd string RB Jonathan Jackson (who could be a starter on most other teams) in the 2nd half of play. Jackson had 2 TD's on the night and the Cards had 2 passing scores...one to Xavier Shelton who now leads the state with 7TD's through the air and the other to Murrell who had to step in and play a slot receiver for the Cards after Noonan's injury. Calloway played hard and Willis is a beast on the field...if he can only stay on the field for Calloway they will be a tough team come playoff time. A good win...now hoping that the guys can heal up from the flu and bronchitis that struck the team and get ready for Graves County on Friday before getting into district play.

Congrats to the Purple Flash on a big win over a Lexington Catholic squad that made the long trek down to Lone Oak Friday. I was little skeptical of the Flash's numbers after the first three opponents they played...but they proved that they are a legit state title caliber team and one of the best teams down here in the far end of the state regardless of classification. If Lone Oak can get a little better on the defensive side of the ball they have the offensive weapons to make a strong push for Bowling Green if they can stay healthy and hungry. Talked to the coaches today and they said that Murrell will be back on both sides of the ball and that the thigh bruise is not causing him any problems this week in practice...but won't know until he takes a hit and finds out.

I have to agree with that...as Coach Starnes has gotten his teams to play above their heads...and now that he has some talent to go along with it they are a scary bunch. Rocket...hope you guys have a good game Friday and stay healthy until our next meeting at your place in late October...already looking forward to that game as it should be a good old-fashioned slobber-knocker. Hopefully we will both take care of business and be unbeaten at that time.

Tilghman has all the ingredients for a good team...they just need to find an identity and some heart. They wanted to infight alot the past two years...hopefully the new interim coach can change some of that and get rid of some of the trouble makers on the team as it is amazing what a difference getting rid of a couple of troublemakers can do for a team's attitude. Exactly...Mayfield held Tilghman to just 25 total yards in the first half. The 30 minute lightning delay in the 1st quarter really took alot of the intensity out of both teams...and after halftime Mayfield put it on cruise control. To tilghman's credit they didn't quit during the game. I also am one that was a little puzzled as to why Tilghman did not go to Forrest (6'4" receiver) more than what they did as he is a great athlete with speed and jumping ability. Murrell did not let him get open, but still would have thought they would have tried more. Up next for the Big Red...Calloway County and Mr. Willis. We owe them some payback after the last couple of years!!!

I have to agree that until someone knocks off Beechwood in the playoffs then they are still the team to beat because of their tradition and excellence they have shown. With that said though I think that this year's playoffs could have some very interesting and close games that could go either way. I believe that right now you could put the top four in a hat and draw out a name and make a great point to reach Bowling Green...and don't count out some of the other teams in Class A such as Holy Cross and Crittenden County. Either way should be a fun season...good luck to all and hope everyone stays healthy this season!!!
