DRGFRFL Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) Name some impact freshmen in varsity football so far this season. I can name one for sure.Jeffery Canady from Knox Central. He looks like he has been playing at that level for years. I have also heard of a linebacker at the new Harlan, not sure of his name. Edited September 2, 2009 by spindoc
SARR Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 It is amazing that freshman can come in and contribute on the Varsity level. Not just a few schools but a large majority. I think a lot of it has to do with the decrease of numbers in MOST programs. There is not as many upperclassmen to choose from now like their was 20 years ago. Nobody wants to wait their turn for PT!!!!!
Blockbuster Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 If freshman are impacting varsity teams I would guess the varsity team is not very good.
Voice of Reason Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Are there any freshmen playing varsity in N. Ky.? The only one I recall from last year is Travis Elliott at Ryle. Did any other freshmen play varsity last year in N. Ky.?

Blockbuster Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Yep, no chance that the freshman is able to compete at that level. Of the teams mentioning freshman having impacts, both Franklin Co. and Knox Central are 0-2. I would say any school 3A and above with freshman playing are going to struggle as a team.

And it is still not always a struggling team that have impact Freshman playing. :thumb:

I would say any school 3A and above with freshman playing are going to struggle as a team. I know Knox is 0-2 but they have played two really good teams. I agree not very many freshmen make an impact but I believe that the Canady kid could start for any 4A school. I am not trying to argue with anyone just watch for the rest of the year and see how he does.He is 6"1 180lbs. and runs a legit 4.5 forty. In the North game a senior intercepted the ball and Canady was twenty yards behind him stopped, and in five more yards he would have ran him down. He is a special athlete with a lot of talent and any school would be glad to have him on thier varsity. Just remember the name Jeffrey Canady.
snakesnot_2000 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Johnathon Jackson of Mayfield plays like a veteran. He fits in perfectly. When he is a junior he will be a beast. He is not by a long shot your typical freshman. His upside has no ceiling at this point.
Blockbuster Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I know Knox is 0-2 but they have played two really good teams. How many freshman were those "really good teams" playing? I'm sure these freshman are good players (and will become better players). But playing freshman against 17-18 year old junior and seniors is usually not a good matchup.
Voice of Reason Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 In the good programs, if you are a special player you MAY get varsity playing time as a SOPHOMORE. Very, very rarely does a freshman get PT in the good programs above the 1A, perhaps even 2A level. Obviously, any freshman that gets PT is really good. But I agree with the posts that freshmen don't play varsity if you have good program in place.
