Who wins this rematch from earlier in the season where Mayfield used their speed and athletic ability for a 53-14 win. With it being a dry night forecasted I say the Cards put up a similar win against a Ballard team that can move the ball with Mallory at QB but their defense has been their achilles heal all season... How many games are their this week that will be rematches of district games in the regular season...and which of those games do you feel that the loser in the regular season comes back and gets revenge this week in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Here locally Mayfield and Ballard Memorial will see each other again with Mayfield having won 53-14 during the regular season and IMHO see another similar score this week with Mayfield marching on to the regional championship game.

I say that Crittenden County will pull out a tough win against a Holy Cross squad that is very similar to the Rockets...but the main thing the Cougars do not have that the Rockets have is #14 J.D. Gray. We have respected that young man for many years now and see him being the difference maker as Crittenden gets the win and sets up the rematch for the Regional Championship at Mayfield. From the two losses I have seen against the Rockets the one thing that hurt them was out and out speed...from talking to the Paducah Tilghman faithful HC does not have speed...they can pound you and are physical, but they are not fast and that plays into Crittendens favor.

Looks like the western portion of the brackets could have some real good games in the coming weeks if everything holds true to form

While both teams are coming in on a nice little streak...I will take the homestanding Eagles 21-14...with defense deciding this game.

I see the Finals being Beechwood/Mayfield vs. LCA

Prayers go out from Mayfield to Coach Schneider in his recovery from the clots and hopefully he can be on the sideline next week when the playoffs start

Crittenden County is a more powered oriented team.

Mayfield played very well tonight...especially on defense. Mayfield was able to contain J.D. Gray for the most part tonight and if the defense can play like they did tonight along with the high powered offense they are showing then they will be a tough out of the playoffs. Tonights win was nice for the revenge from last year...but more importantly someone has to come to War Memorial and knock us out of the playoffs. Will be nice not to have to travel the long rides to the central part of the state this year. Crittenden County will bounce back...they have too good of a team not too...and I am sure we will them again in the playoffs

It is D1 vs D2...and so on...and the Regions are R1 vs R2 and R3 vs R4 in the semis

Rocket...did the Marion area get much rain...and is it still raining there...it is a little misty here. Rocket...just read where one of Crittenden's starting WR and DB's was hurt last week against Fulton City...how is his injury...I believe I read where it was a dislocated left elbow?

I think this one is a knock down drag out affair...it will be Crittenden's Defense against Mayfield's offense this Friday night. If Mayfield can get it into a shootout then the Cards win...if CC can keep Mayfield to under 24 points then it can go either way as J.D. Gray has been a Cardinal killer the past two years...especially last season...I for one will be sending that young man a Thank You Graduation card this spring...lol. We have a lot of respect for that young man and for the Rockets. While some are predicting a 2 TD or more margin for Mayfield...I will take a one point win in Marion Friday night meaning that we don't have to travel this year in the 2nd round of the playoffs (assuming we make it out of the 1st round). I am sure that Coach Starnes will be playing up the "no respect" aspect for this Friday night with him having most of his team back from last year's team that beat Mayfield twice...while this is true...Mayfield is much improved from a season ago. My one main concern is the off week for Mayfield last week and not having to really play the starters past the first half the past month always concerns me when they all of a sudden have to go both halves in a close ballgame. With Mayfield being as healthy as they have been all year...I say Mayfield 28-20 in a hard fought game at Marion!!! And hopefully both teams come out healthy in this one and see each other the week before Thanksgiving in the regional finals!!! On a side note for anyone wanting this info...Louisville Holy Cross will be travelling to Paducah Tilghman this Saturday at I believe 2pm for a game...Holy Cross more than likely will be the opponent for the loser of the Mayfield-Crittenden game in the 2nd round of the playoffs at Louisville.

Although he is just a Freshman...Jonathan Jackson from Mayfield will be a kid to keep an eye on as a tough middle linebacker...already he is leading the team in tackles and was the 1st freshman in Mayfield history to record over 20 tackles in a single game this year. Tough, hard nosed, and loves to stick his shoulder in your midsection and drive you to the ground. Like I said he is just a freshman...but a player for everyone to keep their eyes on in the coming years.

Mayfield pretty much did what a good ballclub does...they came out focused and put the Bombers away early. Mayfield's overall team speed just overwhelmed the Bombers and at the half Ballard had less than 50 yards of total offense with much of their total yards on the night coming in the 2nd half against Mayfield's JV unit. Ballard has a good QB in Alex Mallory...he was just running for his life the entire night against Mayfield's front four. Nice win for Mayfield and now we get a week off to heal up some...although we are pretty much healthy going into the Crittenden game next wee. Saw alot of Crittenden County players and coaches at the game last night since their game with Fulton County was forfeited by Fulton County with not having enough players after their suspensions.

If Ft. Campbell wanted to run the score up they would have kept their starters in and went for 100. Other than having your 2-3 stringers taking a knee throughout the 2nd half there was not much way to keep the score down. I am sure that Ft. Campbell tried to keep it under control by running the ball, but you can't tell a kid that has worked hard in practice to not work hard during a ballgame when he gets a chance to play some.

While I applaud your enthusiasm...there are about 4 other teams out there that would like a shot at LCA...although those teams are in the west bracket of things with Mayfield, Crittenden County, Beechwood, and Frankfort all giving LCA a good game. I see LCA getting to state easily...but will have a tough game against anyone of the four mentioned above. Personally I would love to see a Mayfield - LCA matchup in Bowling Green...but then again I am a little biased. Whoever makes it to Bowling Green from the west will have earned it this year

Guess so....same drainage system... But seriously....you could have gone to any game here in western kentucky last night and had the same field conditions. Down in Fulton County last night every step you took on the field had standing water. The common thread...neither field has much of a crown to allow for faster draining...go back and look at Graves County's field...there is no crown to it to allow for water to drain off. I don't know why they made it that way...but if you don't build the crown on the field...you get fields that don't drain as well.

Rocket...I know that Crittenden and Caldwell received alot of rain the past few days as we all have...how was the field conditions with all the wet weather as that might have played a role in keeping it on the ground with Berry and Gray. Congrats on the win and hopefully we both can continue our winning ways and be undefeated going into our matchup in late October. JV will be fine...saw him earlier today at the elementary games and he said it is a little sore, but he will be good to go...it has actually been sore for a few games...but at least now he can rest it some the next few weeks. Ross turned an ankle and the coaching staff will now more Monday about whether he will be able to go this Friday...but once again he should be fine in a week or two with a little rest. Luckily the Cards this year are talented and deep enough to be able to fill in for a few injured players so that way they can heal up before the game with Crittenden on the 23rd of October.

Haskins showed his real class last night by alleging that Graves County watered down the field for his almighty Flash offense. Like Graves County would ruin their field for the rest of the season for a non-district game against Lone Oak. Apparently it must never rain in Lone Oak...as pretty much the rest of the state had to play in horrible field conditions with the rain we have received this week. Granted the ball was wet...but it was wet for everyone last night.
