Agreed, but Simon Kenton has to have a pretty deep run in the playoffs again for that to happen

Very good point. I don't mean to count out Simon Kenton in the playoffs, but for curiosity's sake, when was the last time Mr. Football came from a non-contending team?

I'm not 100% sure, but looking over the list I would say never.

Simon Kenton could have a harder road through the playoffs this year with the alternating 6A playoff alignment. I think they will have 6-3 (Butler, DuPont Manual, Pleasure Ridge Park, St. Xavier) this year instead of 6-7 (Bryan Station, Lafayette, Paul Dunbar, Scott County) as in 2008.

Antino Andrews from Fort Campbell is overlooked way to often IMO. One of the best athletes in the state.

 

I also think Collinsworth from Highlands is the best player in the state and maybe on the best team.

 

But my vote would go to Channing Fugate from Breathitt County. No other player in the state means more to his team than Fugate IMO.

You can say the same for Caleb Watkins at Corbin High school (2A). He plays on both sides of the ball for the entire game.

I think you’re correct. According to Calloway's website they did not win a playoff game until 1995 and did not win their district in the late 80s when Pookie played for them.

I'm sticking to what I said last season Weaver 2009 Mr. Football.

Correct. Pookie Jones never played in a playoff game. Calloway County went in 1981 and lost to Franklin-Simpson and the Lakers didn't make the postseason again until 1993.
