Austin Collinsworth (Highlands) - 16 rushes, 78 yards, 2 TD (defeated Manual 19-8); Week One @ Ryle

 

Tim Patterson (Central) - 21-yard TD reception (lost to Seneca, 26-44); Week One vs. Henry Clay in Fayette County Invitational Bowl

 

Miles Simpson (Simon Kenton) - Off; Week One vs. Newport Central Catholic in Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown

 

Quan Weaver (Frankfort) - Off; Week One vs. Paris

 

I couldn't find any more stats for Patterson. If anyone has additional stats to add to these, please do.

I may be a homer, but I think Rees MacShara from Boyle County at least deserves a mention. I would think he is one of the top 10 players in the state.

I would also add Antonio Andrews of Ft Campbell to the list since many outside of WKY will not:

 

6 TDs & 361 yards, 4 rushing for 204 yards and 7 of 14 for 157 yards and 2 TDs passing, 0 INTs.

 

Plus 3 extra points and at least one tackle on special teams.

I really like Channing Fugate from Breathitt County as a player.

 

Unfortunately, the fact he is from Eastern Kentucky and has verbally committed to Tennessee all but eliminates him from being Mr. Football.

 

I am not saying it is right, but it is the truth, sadly.

I'm sticking to what I said last season Weaver 2009 Mr. Football.

 

Come on they show class 1 A no love for Mr. Football, this is not going to happen. It will be somebody from 5A or 6A me and you both know.:madman:

Antino Andrews from Fort Campbell is overlooked way to often IMO. One of the best athletes in the state.

 

I also think Collinsworth from Highlands is the best player in the state and maybe on the best team.

 

But my vote would go to Channing Fugate from Breathitt County. No other player in the state means more to his team than Fugate IMO.

 

Antonio Andrews is way overlooked, but should be in every conversation about Mr. Football!

Tevin McCaden from Bryan Station, had to sit behind some good backs the last two years (D.L. Wilhite and Patrick Cornett are both playing in college) but will be one of the best in the state.

 

Vs. GRC - 15 touches 317 yards thats 21 yds per touch and 5 TD's

You can say the same for Caleb Watkins at Corbin High school (2A). He plays on both sides of the ball for the entire game.

 

Maybe so but Caleb Watkins is not as good or productive IMO. Fugate and Watkins play comparable schedules (I think Breathitt County's schedule is quite a bit stronger, but some would argue) and Fugate has better numbers and carries his team deeper in the playoffs. I think Watkins is a darn good football player, but would still go with Fugate every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I see no reason to think Fugate won't get a fair shot at Mr. Football. Often players from EKY don't get the press leading up to their senior seasons, so they aren't as widely known before their big year. Fugate doesn't have that problem...he enters the season as the top player in the state on some lists and in the top 5 on every list, he's had monster years as a sophomore and junior and the Bobcats played in the state finals last year.

 

Additionally, there aren't any stud prospects like a Bush, Brohm, et al who virtually have the award secured before the season starts.

 

Breathitt County has had some players get recognition before...Waylon Chapman finished second (I think) in Mr. Football voting as a senior, behind Tim Couch. Justin Haddix finished second behind Michael Bush. I can't argue with either of those decisions. Chapman wasn't better than Couch, and Couch himself was from EKY. Haddix led the Bobcats to a 15-0 record as a senior and had a monster year...statistically, one of the best in state history I'd say. (4000 + passing yards, 1000+ rushing yards, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 TD's when you combine passing, rushing and defense). But, no one in their right mind thought he was a better football player than Michael Bush. It was just unfortunate timing for him to be a senior the same year that a guy like Bush was.

 

Fugate has a great shot to win Mr. Football. The fact that he signed with a top tier SEC school like Tennessee only helps his cause.

 

It's still way early in the season, but if Fugate produces like he has the past two years and the Bobcats meet their pre-season expectations, he's got a great shot at walking away with the award.

Eric Shaw is the do-all athlete for Lafayette.

1st week- 140 yards rushing, 3 TD, 3 rec 32 yards, 8 tackles vs. Tates Creek

 

Jacob Russell is the QB for Anderson County. Not sure about his stats in week 1 but I know his team won by a bunch. The kid is being recruited by Purdue, WKU and UK.

Ill see if I cant find his stats from Week 1.

Russell had 9 rushes, 41 yds and a TD. 10/15, 137 yds and a TD. Also had an interception on defense.

Fugate

I am unfamiliar with a lot of the names on this list, but I did get to watch Breathitt County's Channing Fugate in person last weekend. He is the real deal. I sat in the stands surrounded by Mercer County fans that actually cheered when Fugate was tackled for a 40 yard gain (after running the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and his first carry of the game for a 45 yard touchdown). Now that is impressive!!!
