I agree with some that the re-birth of a Ft. Thomas Youth Basketball would not only be a good way to develop basketball players, it would also serve as a way to gain interest in the high school program. The more kids playing a sport through the 8th grade, the better the picking is for the high school level. Once a young person is "cut" from a sport the chances of them continuing to play that sport is very minimal. Some will say AAU is the only way to go, but I've seen it and honestly can say many of the players would benefit more from a structured city league. As for parents coaching teams that involve "cuts", for example 7th and 8th grade basketball, I'm completely against it.

Does anyone know if there's a selection committee? And, who that might be?

I'm sure Jeff would agree with you RR. He'll be the first to tell you he was surrounded with great players in a great program.

I think it's too easy to for us to recall the recent players. For me I'll go back to the early 80's with Mike Herrmann and Tony Daugherty. Both of these former Birds would knock you silly.:isurrender:

I realize he's been a long time resident of F.T. He's raised his family in the same home he grew up in. I'm just saying in my opinion, other than that, he may not have any desire to coach at HHS since he's spent so much time at NCC.

Sam is an excellent player as you mentioned. This team is going to surprise alot of people this season. They have a solid senior group with skills and leadership. Go Birds! Good Luck this season and stay healthy!!!!!

I'm with you on this comment. As a parent who's son in fact has done this, I think he's made a very wise choice. The things he's gained from the football program have helped develop him into the young man he is today.

I'm surprised Siebert hasn't been move to the O.F. by now? Sounds like the infield is set according to other posts.
