So, since it was brought up in another thread and it hasn't gotten much press so far, what is up with the Freshman coaching situation?

 

As I understand it, Charlie Barr retired on June 1st with the assumption of coming back for the next season. Because of some type of mix up or new regulation with the State(or School Board), don't know for sure, he will be required to sit out 90 days before he is eligible to coach again.

 

Now with that being said, that would put him somewhere in Sept. and into the season. With him not even being able to volunteer, I guess some thought it would be best to move on! I don't know! So Nick Behymer has been named Head Freshman coach.

 

Now I'm sure I will be corrected quickly or even blasted for posting this. But that is the whole point. What is going on? Can someone in the know let us know? Man your kid graduates and how quickly you're out of the loop.

tdy, your information is accurate as far as I can tell. From what I know, you have to be retired for a set number of days before you can re-apply for any position within State Government. And yes, I did hear Nick was the new head coach.

I had heard somewhat the same thing but I don't know that Charlie even wanted to come back as the head frosh coach this year. He's told me several times in year's past that "next year" was going to be his last year coaching the frosh, so perhaps he decided this was the year to hang up the whistle. Charlie is a fine, fine man and a fine coach, but I have to admit I think there is some benefit to some "new blood" taking over the frosh team. I think Nick will do a great job. Young and very enthusiastic.

 

I think the Birds will have a very good team this year. I had heard that Jack Collinsworth was going to have to miss this year due to an injury (folks, don't ask for specifics as I don't provide that info), but things have now changed and he's going to be able to play. The kid is a fantastic athlete. There are a bunch of really good athletes in that class and some very good linemen too, so I expect them to compete very well, and hopefully we can reclaim the title of N. Ky frosh champions this year.

What position does Jack Collinsworth play? Who are some of the other likely stars in this class? Is Merrill Hoge's son in this class, or is he still in middle school?

I believe Merrill Hoge's son will be a seventh grader. Jac Collinsworth plays quarterback.

I don't think he can even volunteer for 90 days from the day he retired. I believe that is a state rule. If he indeed did come back that would put him sometime in September. You would of thought someone would of told coach Barr the rule but then again, maybe he knew!!!!! Didn't Danville just go through this same thing in Feb with one of their coaches. It seemed to work out for them...

Does anyone know the time of this week's freshman game? I heard it was on sat morning but have yet to locate a time.

Coach Barr was a constant for Bluebird Football for over 30 years. How many exactly? How many varsity head coaches did he see? Great coach, a class act all the way, and an underappreciated reason for continued HHS performance. Godspeed, Coach Barr.
