Who is the greatest BlueBird of them all?

Featured Replies

I had an interesting discussion with my nephew this past weekend about who he thought was the greatest Highland's football player of them all. He said Jared Lorenzen, and I say Marty Moore.

I have to admit that I am somewhat new to Highlands football compared to some of you, but I thought it might be fun to read your comments.

What say you?

I would say its an overall tough call, but in the end Jared Lorenzen would have to be the guy.

I am also going to have to go with Jared. I would put Justin Frisk at a close second..:thumb: JMO..

John Burt from the Class of 1961 would have to be ranked one of the greatest players ever at Highlands. He was an outstanding running back for three seasons. His number (40) was retired by the school after the state championship game his senior year. It doesn't get much better than that at Highlands.

I would say you are right does anyone else have their number retired?

My vote is Jared Lorenzen he was fun to watch! Of course, that was a fun offense. I was on the wrong end of many lopsided scores in the early 80's; hence the move to Fort Thomas. If you ask me anybody that puts on a birds uniform is an athlete. It is just a traditional rich program and now I am a proud father having boys grow up in the Jr Football system to one day put on the uniform. I have to say watching it as a parent you certainly respect the time and dedication of all involved. That is not to say that other programs in the area are bad, because I think we have more than a handful of good teams. 6A was really competitive and fun this past year. How about Simon Kenton! Wow, it was a long time in coming. Campbell County has a very good coach and Ryle stepping up and playing Highlands 2x. Boone is usually tough. Hope we take out the 6A power house downstate. 5A Dixie has good classes coming. I think we are represented well in all classes. Beechwood and NewCath always represents. It pains me to admit even CovCath looks like they me be turning the corner. I still can't root for that bunch, but I guess that is why it is called a rivalry.

We had this discussion several years ago in Erlanger, who was the greatest Juggernaut. We all came to the conclusion you would have to go by every 5 to 10 years. I can go back to the 60's and Highlands has had some great players and coaches along the way. That is a toughy I am pro to saying my choice would be Jared Lorenzen. JD

Over the past twenty years or so, I'd have to say that Brett Hamblen deserves some consideration.

Before my time, but a name I have heard before is Chuck Kyle. Anyone have any insight on how Mr. Kyle would work into this conversation?

Marty Moore by far. :ylsuper:

If you are thinking St. X this year, Highlands plays Cincinnati St. X not Louisville.:thumb:

I'm with your thinking wether it is Louisville or Cincy.

I'm relatively new to this area and only got to see Jared Lorenzen play once, but I've never seen one player dominate a HS football game the way he did when I saw him. His skills and ability were awesome.

I'd have to go with Marty Moore on this one.......Simply nasty coming out of the LB spot....Then Jared, then Frisky.:ylsuper:

Chuck Kyle was a high school All American tackle at Highlands in 1964. There was no one like him in the state of Kentucky at the time. He went on to become an All American nose tackle at Purdue University and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Kyle ended up being an All Pro linebacker in the Canadian football league. What's fascinating about Kyle is the fact that he was such an all-around athlete. He won the state diving championship his senior year at Highlands and also broke the school shot-put record.
