  1. I agree with LN on the crazy post and the scores. I think this game should be one sided. The concern is field condition( grass I think or mud ), weather and the tendency to be looking ahead. Grant can throw the ball from what I have read and this has been a weak spot in our attack. Birds need to get ready and play a solid game on both sides of the ball and the above forementioned concerns will become a non-factor. Go BIRDS.
  2. Congrats to the Warriers. Having seen this team play HHS, I thought they had the talent to go deep into the playoffs. Good win and keep focusing each week. We look forward to seeing you again.
  3. Commando, hit the nail on the head. BIRDS will need a strong outing on both sides of the ball and no mental misstakes. Last years game, "shennanigans" as someone put it, needs to be in the players minds and used as a motivator. DeSales did not respctour guys and when the coach went for the td inside a minute with the game in hand just reinforces that lack of respect. Go BIRDS and get ready for a good ballclub and yes they are a good club according to sources in Columbus.
  4. Good game BIRDS. Nice win. Offense looked very good tonight against a good Warrier defense. The Warriors had a game plan that tried to taked away the run and putting that many in the box kind of backfired on them. I agree with LN on 45 & 5 playing well. I hope 45's injury is not serious. Same goes for the biggin, 375. His ankle did not look good. I thought once we got the lead and started to work on some areas to improve on in the passing game we lost a little swagger. Lots of dropped balls and poor passes. It seemed to me and I do not have a tape to review, that the long pass was our objective. Th 10 - 15 yard pass was there, but no receivers.?? Defense looked very good against the run and a little out of sink against the pass. SW Qb has a nice touch, but not very accurate. No timing with the receivers and they were open. Too many times way open. Defensive line took a little while to start getting after him, but once they did he was being rushed. Any news on injuries for the BIRDS. Is Wise ok and will Koester be back next week. Get rested and healthy. Time to focus on a very good DeSales team up in Columbus.
  5. Very good game by the BIRDS and a tough loss in the end. This one may hurt, but the kids gave it their all. Elder should feel very fortunate to have gotten the W and needs to recognize their need for improvement, especially on offense. The BIRDS shut them down. Highlands needs to let this one go and get ready for X. Previous posts have said how great this X team is compared to Elder, I don't know and will wait and see. Elder will be competitive all year, just not the best Cincy has to offer. Cincy X and Colerain have that job this year. Offense, the line played very good and should be proud. Play calling could have been better, IMO. Big backs running it or blocking in the red zone could have one this game. Fumble in the first half and a stalled drive in the second half got only 3 points. Leading a QB draw with Jordan blocking bogged us down on a short field. Delay of game killed us, get the play in from the sideline. Overall, we beat them up and down the field. Formations could have been better. 3 wideouts on most every play got old, especially if we are not using them. Elder did not respect the pass or the formations for most of the game. Late in the game when we needed to pass, Elder was dropping 6/7 in coverage and the HB screen was there for the taking and we only used it once I believe for 20+ yards. I thought are passing game got much better with Simmons in the game. 45, 16 and 13 seemed ineffective on pass routes. Defense was stellar and against much bigger boys. Their receivers are tall and ran decent routes. QB was under pressure all night, but when he had the time got it to them a few times. Elder won this game on the scoreboard and with its punt team on the field. It is a shame that the BIRDS had the misfortune of the ball grazing a blocker in the first half. The play at the five, should not have happened and unfortunately it did and was huge. Did anyone notice that when Elder punted, the ball being used was lets say "worn". I did not think a kicking ball or soft ball was allowed. Any thoughts. Not to say the kid was not booming the ball anyway. Overall, great job and keep your heads up and re-focus on X. Go BIRDS.
  6. Leatherneck hit the nail on the head! Execution, Execution & Execution. Sounds like CCHS lost on this period. Go Birds Go & Stay mentally strong.
  7. After seeing the comdition of the school last night, with construction issues and fences everywhere, this could be messy. A suggestion might be to have a parking shuttle set up ahead of time. The only real big area for parking at the school may be "death valley" and I doubt if that will be a consideration. Elder will bring the people and 2000 has a breakdown of over 500 cars if you average 4 per vehicle. Elder should have an idea as they sit in a heavily populated area of Cincy. HHS may need to look strongly at this or property owners could prosper at charging $10 a car for yard parking. It will be interesting. On a side note, I noticed the band was moved to the end zone. This probably being done for this game as to maz out seating in the main stands. For years th band section has been at a 50% capacity and have heard many a complaint to make it a smaller section. Hope all goes well and yes season passes are available at the gate.
  8. Good job by thr BIRDS. They showed alot of speed and ability. I agree with LN on the QB's being even. I did like the way Cecil tucked the ball and got yardage when things collapsed around him, showed good poise. Receivers are a ?? and need to pick it up in the coming weeks. They did not seem to want to make plays on the ball. Defense is good and fast. They created havoc all day for the Tigers. DB's need to play the ball a little better. Coverage is good, but I thought a couple of int's were left on the field. What number was Connor. So many people in and out I wasn't sure. Good luck in their next scrimmage.
  9. IMO the whole set up appears to be a joke. The KHSAA has destroyed the spirit of competition for way too many schools. They have created a model of mediocrity for these schools to play within. the new system will have 87% of all teams making the playoffs and in many cases all teams within districts are in before a down is played. I would hate to be one of the yeams that fall in the other 13%. The playoffs should be a reward for hard work, victories and achieving excellance on the field. The new set up in the long range may have a crippling affect on many schools. With travel costs and school costs overall rising faster and faster, many schools are having present budget constraints that already are pushing some programs into private funding or even extinction. Either leave it as is or reduce the playoff scenario. Make the playoffs worth the effort to get there. Think of the Sweet Sixteen in basketball. Now thats rewarding a team for there achievments.
  10. Congrats go out to Trinity for a great game. Big win. Sounds like the PRIDE factor was huge tonight. Not a shocking upset when it comes to this rivalry. Between these two and a couple of others around the state, records mean little. Congrats to St X on a great year as well. Sorry you did not achieve the goal at hand, but keep your head up and be proud of your season. Congrats to Tony D, Rockmom, LSU Rock & Rockpride and all other BGP Rock fans and I am sure you had the Ville ROCKIN last night. Tony D probably is still missing the Big Red bus.
  11. Turn Out The Lites The Party In This Case Is Rockin. Congrats Rocks
  12. A few not mentioned. Rob Kuhnhein, HHS / Ohio State. Mike Keirnan, NCC / ND and a kid from Louisville OL, I think at Trinity and went to Michigan and played a few yearsin the pros. I think his name was Bubba Paris.
  13. Congrats to LexCath on a job well done. Good luck next week and finish the job at hand.
  14. Congrats to the BREDS on a job well done. Good luck next week and stay focused for the grand prize. Keep up the NKY tradition.
  15. RTS great post. That says a lot about these young men and the pride they have for our program. It is a fine example for the guys behind them to follow. Great job boys and good luck in all that you do.
  16. Congrats to all the LC folks. Your team was tonight the better team and deserved to win. Keep up the good work and stay focused and reep the reward in two weeks. Your defense tonight was awesome and the game plan was flawless. To the LC fans, you were great and support was at a championship level. Be proud of your team. Birds, do not hang your heads. Tonight you ran into a buzzsaw. They were the better team. The only thing that was not tried that I thought would work, was the old fashioned power running attack. We had some succcess with fullback up the middle and the counter. I would like to have seen more power, 3 backs with Hurtt and maybe Koester running more. Or the two leading the charge with Kremer or Schrode. Passing was not the way to go tonight. To those who thought other coaches could not have done any better, we'll never know. LC was simply hard to beat tonight and my hat goes off to them. I do believe the power attack could have worked and it definitely would have had some control on the clock and keeping LC's offense off the field. All in all, too many turnovers and misstakes. The straw that broke the back was the blocked FG early in the second half and our offense did not respond after that. Congrats and good luck to the Knights and to our Birds for a fine season.
  17. Sandman nice post and a big congrats to all the seniors for a job weel done. You have had a great 4 years and should be proud of your accomplishments.
  18. Much like last weeks game, this one is going to come down to defense and who makes the plays. I believe that the Birds can win this game with a few key plays from the defense in a close one.
