Henry521 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I just couldn't wait any longer. Love to hear from the Cov. Cath. faithful their thoughts. I personally would like to knock them off their Harbin points.:ylsuper:
NamecipS Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Let's get it started. What did HHS learn from the CCH -vs- Elder game....other than hold on to the ball.
BIGZIG Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Highlands just might win this one this year...RB can you get me a ticket..
Bluesport Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 IMO, if Highlands doesn't turn the ball over, they win the game. CCH had 4 turnovers inside Elder territory, 3 of them inside the 20. Elder doesn't have the strong power running team they have had in the past. They are solid, but not overpowering. The QB was very inaccurate. I like the Birds' by a TD.
malachicrunch Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I only saw highlights of yesterdays game. Looked like Elder was making hay through the air. Birds will need to tighten up an improving pass D. HHS has very few players playing 2 ways this year. I think that is key in competing with the Elders. All the intangibles, special teams, field position and so on will factor in here. HHS kicker may be called on to hit some lengthy 3 pointers, which he can. Birds 24-14:dancingpa

They did have one TD to Rudolph who was wide open at the goal line. Stop the big back Pat Williams and you win the game.
Oldbird Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I would rather play the Elder offense of the first half when the QB for Elder couldn't throw it within 5 yards of his intended target than the second half when the QB looked pretty sharp.

I hear what you are saying, but turnovers are classified as forced or unforced. I didnt see the game but I would be interested in knowing if a good Elder defense forced them or did CC just cough them up?

I don't know about the one on the five going in right after half, but the Sutton fumble I thought was foced. Sutton made a nice catch on off target pass and it look like to me was stripped of the ball as he turned upfield. The Elder fumble that set up Cov. Cath's only score was clearly forced. Cov. Cath. popped the kid/ball and it went flying.
Sweeperboy Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Thanks OB, I guess my point is, t eams like Elder just lull you to sleep with there 5 yds and a cloud of dust on offense and then wham!!! just when you not looking there defense steps it up and takes one away. Certain team philoshophies are simple, defense hold them to one td or less and our O will get what they need to get for the Win. As always offenses get all the glory but it sounds like yesterdays game was a defensive gem by the Purples.
gamer31 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Sweeperboy where have you been? Its good to see you back. I havent see da birdds play yet, but frolm the discussions I have had with boom and backtoliveaction it sounds like it could be a defensive battle.
Qryche11 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 This game will be won in the Trenches. With Elder's huge athletic D line and the Birds improved and much bigger line it should be a battle. My only worry comes if the Birds fall back a TD or 2 and have to go to the air. I like Highlands at home in a great hard hitting game 21-14.
