Proposed 6 Class alignment (from KHSAA)

Featured Replies

Wow, was actually fun to look at and mighty interesting. St. X and Male still in the same district but Manual moved into another district I would think it a HUGE boost for the Crimson program.

Looks like it's going to make teams schedule a lot more but doesn't look too bad to me right off the bat.

WOW.

A team playing in downtown Louisville is now playing with Bullit Central? Fern Creek and Southern should be in that district IMO, and Manual and Butler should be in the other district.

It looks nice to have an easier playoff road, but I worry about what this does to our traditional matchups with X and Male. I hope the wide-open scheduling will mean we get to keep playing them, and possibly Trinity (the Louisville schools will now have 7 open dates to choose from!) but for now I'm apprehensive.

So let me get this straight ...

We're keeping teams in their own district for the playoffs to avoid excessive travel, so we set up a Class A district where Russellville is in the same district with Ballard Memorial, Fulton City and Fulton County?

Mayfield and Beechwood (300-plus miles apart) potentially meeting every year in the semifinals?

Class A is a joke ... and some districts are so bad you could put the teams together and not be very good.

This is a horrible idea. Just horrible.

Class A is a joke. I would be shocked if Louisville Holy Cross didn't play up. In that district, they may never lose but not much competition to get them ready for the playoff run.

And speaking of road trips, how about the 6-A one for Shelby County to travel to Harlan County Central (or whatever the consolidated school in Harlan County is going to be called).

Great minds think alike.

Even worse than my example. Good call.

How many teams from each district make the playoffs?

I don't like some 4 team districts and some with more.

In 6A there wil be a total of 4 teams in 4 different districts that won't make the playoffs.

With this they should just go ahead and let everyone in the playoffs.

How? The numbers don't work for a bracket. Unless you want some districts to start the playoffs early, and the 1st place team in those districts to get a bye.

Maybe that should be the next suggestion. Unfortunately, the number of schools that play football doesn't divide evenly by 32 so somewhere along the way, I guess they had to have an extra team or two. Harlan Central is the one out there on an island, but frankly, no one really knows the final number of kids that will end up in that new school and won't for a year or so, but they can't let one school hold up the whole process.

With this they should just go ahead and let everyone in the playoffs.

That's what I've been advocating. It allows teams to set their own schedules and prevents the obscenely long district travel times. A blind draw for the playoffs would work.

Plus all coaches could say they got their team to the playoffs.

Then so be it.

If the reasoning for this alignment was to be more inclusive in the playoffs then how much will it bite to be one of the 4 teams that doesn't get in especially if a team in another district throws up a goose-egg and still makes the playoffs simply because they are in a 4 team district.

This prevents the endless Mayfield/Beechwood championship games.

How about Boyle and LexCath back together again in 4A.

Highlands would have an interesting district.

Hihglands is in 3A and CovCath is 4A. I hope they let the Birds play up.

I'm beginning to believe both Highlands and CovCath should move up to 5A or maybe even 6A.

Truly in 4A the only descrepency that I see, is the fact that Fern Creek is not in our district but Seneca is....

If you look, St. X, Male, Seneca, and Southern is rather sound logistically. I could see trading Southern and Manual, but not the Creek and Southern.

Overall, not bad, now hopefully they will seperate us from St. Xavier in the playoffs.
