AA Region 4, District 8

Corbin, Knott Co. Central, Leslie Co, Middlesboro, and Somerset.

I really like this district with Somerset having the opportunity to renew games with old rivals Corbin and Middlesboro. Then throw in a strong Leslie Co. team and upcoming Knott Co. Central and this will prove to be a great district year in and year out.

your not kidding

I mean no disrespect to the teams I am going to mention, but at the Western end of the state, 4A Districts 1-4 (Region 1) might be the easiest region to get of, in comparrison to any other region in the state.

One questions in regards to teams requesting to play up.

If a team request to play up will the teams in the above class starting with the last team listed have the option to play down so they stay at 36 teams per class?

If no teams decide to play down will that mean the the teams request to play up will be denied?

Sorry that was two questions.

Yes, I didnt even notice they had it wrong.

none taken. 5A and 6A look to be the more competitive classes in the West. However, 1A-4A look like one or two teams will come out every year (1A Mayfield, 2A O Catholic, 3A Pad. Tilghman, 4A who knows). All in all I think most people don't like 6 classes because they are so used to things being the way they always have been. But change is inevitable and this 6 class thing is going to happen so I think everyone better get used to the idea and find SOME kind of positive in this.

I like this district except for having Knott County Central in it. And putting Somerset, Corbin, and Middlesboro in the same district will renew some very good, and sometimes intense rivalries from the 70's and 80's. Leslie County has a very good program getting going again, and should be competetive in the district.

I just think that having a very weak team like Knott County, who is on the other side of Hazard doesn't work. You are looking at about an 2 1/2 travel time for both Middlesboro and Somerset just for a district game, and that's a long way to travel for some fans.

I haven't been able to look at the full class 2 A listing yet, but I hope to be able to soon. These computers at my new job stink!

Yes that is a long way to travel, I didn't realize that it was that far off a drive.

I don't see one ... unless, of course, my views were tied to the success of a particular team or two. Which seems to be on which all this is based.

Whoops, I was in a rush. Bullitt Central is what I meant, I'd already refered to them earlier in the thread, and it's the team I had in mind when I was listing.

To recap:

Right now, Louisville looks a little gerrymandered to me- the eastern district is pretty cohesive, but then central and western districts take on exaggerated crescent shapes. If we're doing this by location, I think more cohesive and logical districts would be:

PRP, Southern, Fern Creek and Bullitt Central

Male, Manual, X and Butler

Trinity, Ballard, Eastern and Seneca

The Eastern and Cetnral districts would be a great grouping, and the Southern district would pretty much make games along the Gene Snyder's south end.

If we were going for balanced districts to be included in our thinking, I would suggest:

Trinity, Ballard, Fern Creek, Eastern

X, Manual, Butler, Seneca

Male, PRP, Southern, Bullitt Central

I agree that Class A looks like a monstrosity. Look at poor old Campbellsville. They've got to travel to Lynn Camp and Middlesboro? C'mon, that's like 2+ hours for district games.

Why are people crying over the travel times in most o these districts?

You don't see the teams in the current 3A District 7 crying about travel times do you? Madison Southern and Rockcastle County traveling to Letcher County Central and even Bell County (visa versa) are just as long as you stated if not longer.

Folks may complain about traveling to a particular site but when that team has to return the favour and come to your place there isn't any complaining thats going on.

People need not worry about the travel times...just go out there, laces those cleats up, strap those shoulder pads down, & buckle that chin strap and let the fun begin!!!!

Teams had long travel times for the playoffs yet a short travel time during the season. Now, travel times for some may be more but the playoffs will be shorter. Sounds like a wash to me....

With the gas prices not going anywhere but up, there is good reason to at least raise the issue of traveling. I agree, whining doesn't solve anything, but the cost of traveling should be part of the equation IMO.

I am up in the air on the six classes, but this is a reason not to. With schools having less to choose from, they will be forced to travel more.

I guess I am both a whiner and a crier. One of the issues raised at the KHSAA meetings was travel cost and time. There are several schools that have very limited travel budgets as it is. I'm all for "strappin' it up, but travel time takes something out of you before a game. I am aware the sword custs both ways.

You will find the answer HERE.

PY4Boy column. Which is the 2005 male enrollment, 4 grades.

But Southwestern's should have been 497 I guess instead of 772. The 772 must be a typo.

you mean I made another mistake? Darn! The first one I believe was putting that list together in the first place.:D
