Proposed 6 Class alignment (from KHSAA)

Featured Replies

BillyRayJoeBob, have you ever heard of Danville? The Admirals have stood between Mayfield and the carpet for much of the last decade. As far as we whiny fans in western Kentucky are concerned, the Danville-for-Beechwood tradeoff is about even.

It's over 300 miles from Mayfield to Beechwood, dude ... that's what the chatter is about. Heck, Mayfield is 2-0 against Beechwood over the years ... what is Pikeville's record against the Tigers?

Like I said, it's four hours from Pikeville to Beechwood. Crying over an extra hour in the car every two years doesn't make any sense.

If true, how fair is that? Why should one school's request be granted more weight than another's?

First, it is true. It says so on the KHSAA website.

Secondly, one school's wishes will always be less impactful than the overall impact on the other teams.

Who's crying, BillyRayJoeBob? We're simply making an observation that it seems a bit ridiculous that weeks after the KHSAA cites travel concerns in changing the playoff format, they propose a six-class system that will likely increase travel during the season.

I imagine that they'll wait until everyone has submitted their request to play up, look at what teams would be entering and leaving each class, and decide what could be worked out to keep the districts and class numbers in acceptable limits.

They clearly planned for this, because the one class that you can't move IN to (Single A) has the most teams.

Increase for a few, and decrease for most. Again, one hour every two years is what you are talking about in your case. Not much to complain about. Besides, the thought of a Beechwood/Mayfield matchup every year just makes me all tingly inside.:ylsuper:

What a laughable post.

Heck, Mayfield is 2-0 against Beechwood over the last decade or so ... what is Pikeville's record against the Tigers in that span?

I honestly have really enjoyed playing Danville and don't particulary want the trade myself. I really appreciate the Danville fans, such a classy bunch of people!! I have only ran into the beechwood fans once at the 2002 state championship and they were very rude to me to put it nicely. If this goes into effect next season, then if we get to play Danville this last time I guess it will be a farewell game.

I'm sure it does. The door to Louisville that's been slammed shut on Pikeville over the years may be re-opened.

Gee, who would've thought that your support would have been motivated by its effects on the fortunes of your team? Sounds like a lot of the people that support this.

Pikeville has been to Louisville many times over the years. You still haven't explained what the big deal about 1 extra hour in the car every two years is.

Not once since 1991. I take it you're eager to get back, hence your support for this proposal.

And before you accuse me of anything, BillyRayJoeBob, I'm not from Mayfield. I'm simply a football fan in far western Kentucky.

You still haven't explained what the big deal about 1 extra hour in the car every two years is.
Honestly, 300 miles for a playoff game is a bit excessive. The same could also happen in 3A, if Paducah Tilghman met Highlands in the semifinals.

Mayfield's second-round game, or that of Ballard Memorial, Fulton City and Fulton County, could mean a trip to Louisville or Bardstown.

Without checking Mapquest, it seems that under the current system, such a long semifinal trip is only possible in Class 2A, from far western Kentucky to the district that includes Corbin.

I don't see another potential semifinal trip of such distance on the horizon for any other area.

Seems like everyone traveling far distances is the big beef at the moment. In Bracken County's old district (Beechwood, NCC, Ludlow, etc.) the farthest team was at best 1 hour away... in the new district ( no complaints with losing beechwood) all trips will be an hour and a half at least, one (eminence) will be 2hrs 11 minutes, according to mapquest. keep in mind mapquest uses car travel time, buses will take alittle longer.

(do NOT want to get into the fray about us/Beechwood specifically -- except to say that we will prepare our best regardless of WHO is on "our side of the state" -- and keep in mind, Lex Christian is on our side and seems they're doing a "fairly" good job at football in only a couple years in existence! But as to the playoff travel concerns...)

There has been some talk already about the possibility of NEUTRAL SITES for semifinal games (and maybe even Regional finals).

If this were to come about, that could SIGNIFICANTLY reduce travel for a potential Beechwood/Mayfield game (and many other far-flung match-ups) as they could meet at several possible sites with nice stadiums, field turf, etc. (Louisville? Lexington? Bowling Green? Pikeville?;) ).

And, it seems that for second-round games, if the same playoff scenario is in effect with this realignment (you play 1st and 2nd round games against YOUR OWN DISTRICT teams), then there'd be no gargantuan trips until possibly the THIRD round (again, neutral sites??).

Everybody needs a dream, I think I'll share this one with you.
In the paper today, Dale says he wants to play up just one spot to 4A. :irked:

Good :thumb: That means that the Bell County/Highlands rivalry will live on!! :ylsuper:

Any truth to the rumor that Bell Co. may ask to move to Class 5A, District 8?

I can honestly say that this comment could not be more wrong; but you're entitled to your opinion.
