The Butler, Manual , PRP district will be hotly contested.

 

St. X or Trinity will the the 6A favorite.

Holy cow, no private schools to dirty up the 5A.

Cov Cath, Boyle Co or Lex Cath will be the 4A...

 

Highlands will dominate the 3A.

2A looks to be the most competitive to me...

1A Beechwood will reogn.....

It appears to me that South Laurel and Whitley Co. should be switched in Class 5A districts 7 & 8. Whitley or their district opponent would have to pass by South Laurel High School to go to each district game, so obviously South Laurel is closer geographically than Whitley to each team in their district. Whitley's travel times in the South Laurel's district would appear to be close to the same as the district they are currently slated to be in.

I am curious to know why KHSAA puts so much of its time and attention to classifying football. Baseball and volleyball are not in classes at all. Whether 4 or 6 classes, shouldnt all high school sports be classifed the same?

Hihglands is in 3A and CovCath is 4A. I hope they let the Birds play up.

I agree with you, it makes sense and the competition would be better. BG, JH, CH, and Dixie off the top of my head. 6A would be a mistake IMO.

This is question is not directed at you GT, but if the coaches ask for 10 classes should the KHSAA do it? If the coaching request for more classes was not on the heals of the public/private split being denied, would this request been approved?

When the KHSAA expanded in 1975, it went from three classes to four. Why are we now skipping five altogether?

According to the KHSAA, travel concerns were more of a problem when they looked at five classes as opposed to six. I would guess that the switch to the Super Class system played into it though.

I like this district except for having Knott County Central in it. And putting Somerset, Corbin, and Middlesboro in the same district will renew some very good, and sometimes intense rivalries from the 70's and 80's. Leslie County has a very good program getting going again, and should be competetive in the district.

 

I just think that having a very weak team like Knott County, who is on the other side of Hazard doesn't work. You are looking at about an 2 1/2 travel time for both Middlesboro and Somerset just for a district game, and that's a long way to travel for some fans.

 

I haven't been able to look at the full class 2 A listing yet, but I hope to be able to soon. These computers at my new job stink!

 

I like this district also except for the trip to Knott Co.(no offense intended...just a long haul), which has to be close to 2 1/2 hrs from Corbin also.

 

I still cannot figure out what numbers the KHSAA is basing their enrollment on though as Corbin had over 350 boys last year in grades 9-12 and that number should be over 360 this year and the cutoff for 2A appears to be at 332. Does anyone know which years they are using?

Isn't the Highlands district the most rediculous thing you've ever seen? There is NO WAY they will want to stay in that kind of arrangement. They will definitely play up. Get out the erasers boys. There's gonna be a lot of changes to be made!
