Proposed 6 Class alignment (from KHSAA)

Featured Replies

Until they make the final adjustments in letting teams play up and placing them in their new districts, we really don't know what the final picture will look like.

I also didn't see Walton-Verona and Brossart in the 1A alignment, which could bump some teams or could offset the loss of Cumberland and Evarts into the Harlan County consolidation. Who knows.

What will they (the KHSAA) do when a team wants to "play up" and they are currently in a 4 team district? How will that effect the playoffs when there is only three teams left in the district to make the playoffs?

Ft. Mitchell is closer to Pittsburgh, PA than to Mayfield, KY.

Its sad but you are correct, I can not imagine having to make such a drive, I sure hope some nice Beechie will send me a tape

That is one long trip, 319 miles from Mayfield to Ft. Mitchell..:creepy: Showing 294 from Ft. Mitchell to Pittsburg, Pa

Not saying that I’m for nor against 6 classes, I can however say that if the KHSAA’s motive is to reduce district travel time then they certainly achieved that in the case of the team I follow (Monroe Co.). Take a look at the new travel times as opposed to the old travel times.

Old district

Owensboro Cath. 2.5 hours

Todd Co. Central 2.5 hours

Butler Co. 1hr 45min

Edmonson Co. 1hr 20min

Hart Co. 1hr 20min

Glasgow 30min

New district travel times

Clinton Co. 1hr 10min

Green Co. 1hr

Glasgow 30 min

Metcalfe Co. 30 min

There are definitely some teams that will have an easy way out of their districts from top to bottom, but there are also some pretty tough districts.

A school that requests to "play up" will not automatically have that request approved. It will depend on the impact of the district they go to as well as the district they leave.

If true, how fair is that? Why should one school's request be granted more weight than another's?

What if Russellville requested a move to 5A citing travel issues?

Just an example without looking at the alignment list

No doubt.

In my dream scenario, CCH goes up one and we go up two....then it's on! :thumb:

Everybody needs a dream, I think I'll share this one with you.

So let me get this straight ...

We're keeping teams in their own district for the playoffs to avoid excessive travel, so we set up a Class A district where Russellville is in the same district with Ballard Memorial, Fulton City and Fulton County?

Mayfield and Beechwood (300-plus miles apart) potentially meeting every year in the semifinals?

Class A is a joke ... and some districts are so bad you could put the teams together and not be very good.

This is a horrible idea. Just horrible.

I knew it wouldn't take long for the Western Ky fans to cry about having to play Beechwood every year (like E Ky does now.) It's over 200 miles from Pikeville to Beechwood, a lot of it on two-lane roads. It won't kill the West to go to Beechwood once every two years. But it will keep them out of Louisville most years. I think thats what the fans hate more than one more hour on the road every two years.

I thought they changed the system to a blind draw anyway???

My thoughts:

Man, Tilghman's district is AWFUL! They might seriously win every game by 30 points every year!

Look at 2A, pretty interesting district 1 I think and good class competition.

Billyrayjoebob, Russelville is more of our complaint I think, it is 2 1/2 hours from Ballard Memorial for a district game...come on!

Also, We don't mind playing Beechwood, because they will travel to us also, but we hate Mayfield and Beechwood in the same side of the bracket!!! Neither team will be threatened until substate in most years. Not knocking the other schools but the winner of this game would most likely win it all year after year. 1A is a laugher!!!

BillyRayJoeBob, have you ever heard of Danville? The Admirals have stood between Mayfield and the carpet for much of the last decade. As far as we whiny fans in western Kentucky are concerned, the Danville-for-Beechwood tradeoff is about even.

It's over 300 miles from Mayfield to Beechwood, dude ... that's what the chatter is about. Take a look at the Cardinals' schedule over the years ... they're not backing down from anyone.

Heck, Mayfield is 2-0 against Beechwood over the last decade or so ... what is Pikeville's record against the Tigers in that span?
