  1. I can see a 300 bench and a 215 clean, but a 600 pound parallel squat is not a believeable stat. I went to a pretty good college and the best squat was a freakishly strong defensive lineman who squated 550 to a 12 inch box. Regardless, I have never seen a squat rack on the football field. I believe Coach Barth will do a very good job with these kids. Best wishes to Coach Barth and Walton football!
  2. Congratulations to Coach Baioni and the 'birds. Coach Baioni has them playing their best at the right time! Good luck!
  3. I think it would be interesting to see a list of guys from X or T that were not the head coach who have gone on to become head coaches. What were there records and how successful were they? I know that Andrew Coverdale is a great football coach and he struggled at Castle. I believe he was 16 - 17 in 3 years and Castle has a very strong football tradition. There is a reason why coaches at X and Trinity get there and stay. Can anyone name some others and the success that followed them?
  4. According to Ryan Ernst blog. Newport hires Rice ... Posted by RyanErnst at 2/23/2009 3:43 PM EST on Cincinnati.com Newport has gone with one of its own to fill its head football coach vacancy. Nick Rice, a Newport grad who went on to play football at Thomas More, has been hired as the Wildcats according to Newport principal Scott Draud. Rice previously served as an assistant coach at Dayton. According to Draud he was selected from three finalists who interviewed for the job. The Newport position opened up in December when Jim Hyder resigned after posting a 5-17 record in two seasons. The Wildcats have not won a district game or a playoff game since 2006.
  5. You are correct, but a better feeder league(inner city league) would need to be a community effort. The league's mentioned above, Colerain, Boone and Ft. Thomas, are run by groups of volunteers. The people who care about football in the Covington community would need to be willing to put forth the time and effort needed to start and run a new feeder league. The elementary schools are in place to have a great feeder league, but who would run it, fund it, and coach it. Parents must be willing to pay league fees and take kids to and from practice. Building a championship varsity program from the youth league up is a community effort with parents, coaches and the community all taking ownership.
  6. Georgetown got rings for winning the conference. It probably said National Finalist on it because they were national finalists. College is different because winning the conference earns rings in college.
  7. Seriously? I surely hope you do not teach this to anyone. It would be impossible to hit a person below the waist while keeping your head up and in a safe position. Tackling the way you mentioned is unsafe. I would rather my kid get up after hitting high and getting trucked than hitting low and never walking again. Your 'fundamental football intelligence' is going to get a kid hurt badly. Best wishes!
  8. Nobody in football teaches players to tackle by the legs. You are uninformed. You should look up how to teach tackling and see if you can find any instruction on diving at legs. Coaches teach high tackling because it is the proper way to make sure tackles. If you played football, try to remember your form tackle drills. Did you form tackle during the drill by diving at your partners legs?
  9. Great Hire!!! I think you will see Highlands baseball begin competing for titles with time. Coach Baioni will get the kids to continue playing baseball through high school! Congratulations! I think the job was open for like 77 days, 12 hours and 32 minutes... lol! :ylsuper:
  10. Did they also tell you that this is against KHSAA rules and that it will count as a scrimmage against the 2 scrimmages they get before the season starts?
  11. Collinsworth ran a 4.65 at the Underarmour Combine. Regardless of that time, he is a very good corner. Here are some results if you want to check it out: http://scoutcombines.scout.com/3/2008_Cincinnati.html To assume that a player runs a 4.3 or even a 4.4, would be unfair to the kid. It sets unreasonable expectations and basically sets him up to fail when he is timed by a college or combine. To put it in perspective, at the under armour combine in Cincy May 18th, there was one sub-4.4 forty out of 200 or so runners. In the Nation at this combine, there are only 14 sub-4.4 out of thousands of kids. http://scoutcombines.scout.com/a.z?s=450&p=9&c=15&yr=2008&sort=40
  12.:lol:Put all of these lifts on you tube to show everyone and the numbers will be believeable. I have been involved in a few programs and all of those "500 pound squatters" quickly became 250 or 315 pound squatters when they actually had to go to parallel. Kind of like the 4.3 Forty yard dashes people keep talking about. Look up the NFL combine and see how many 4.3 forties were run. Not many... Finally, I have never seen a squat rack or bench press on a football field... Have you? Gotta love inflated numbers...
  13. Let's put spring drills in perspective... Spring football is full intrasquad scrimmages. People can get as excited or down about the results of the spring practice as they would like, but the truth is the CovCath OLine could be really good or the defense could be really bad. No one will truly know until they play another opponent. Same with the people talking about how Highlands will repeat based on spring drills. Maybe they will or maybe they are not as deep as last year which causes the #1's to look that much better versus the #2's. Spring football gives fans and coaches a chance to to get excited about certain kids and newcomers that may perform better than expected, but it is not a good measuring stick to see how good a team is really going to be. Anyway, good luck to CovCath and Highlands!
  14. Highlands and not just by a little bit...
  15. The above came from Ryan Ernst blog.
  16. That is a nice gesture, but means nothing. Hopefully Hazard understands they have to earn the number one ranking the next 5 weeks. The state AP poll means nothing!
  17. A healthy Dayton will win the game. Last week was an unfortunate learning experience. The Greendevils will get back to form this week and take care of the Tigers!
  18. Yes they have a team. Last week the game against SK was scheduled for Wednesday and Holmes thought it was Thursday. Two weeks ago there was a conflict for field use with varsity soccer and varsity soccer trumps freshman football. Both games are still trying to be rescheduled, but they are having trouble finding the time.
  19. Dixie, regarding a previous post.
  20. Play to win!!! Forget the past and play to win! The Dayton kids have put in the dedication and effort needed. Mentally they need to know this and believe the will win! It is completely mental!
  21. Holmes did not show up because the game was changed to Wednesday and they were not told of the change. It was a complete miscommunication. Holmes has a freshman team with 25 kids on it.
  22. As long as the block starts in front, it is not a block in the back. You can also ask any official about the block in the back. The officials have been instructed, that unless the hit is square in the back, it is not a penalty. Even if it is on the side of the back. That is just the way it is! Also, I remember when everyone in Dayton used to say the officials screw them. Now people are saying that visitors to Dayton are getting homered... Sounds like sour grapes! Way to go Greendevils on another close win!!!
