AP Poll, A Little Surprise in 1A....

Featured Replies

I don't have a copy of the very latest AP Poll, but when it is released tomorrow the HAZARD BULLDOGS will be the #1 1A team in the state, in this final AP Poll of the season.... Beechwood will be second with 4 first place votes.

In 2A, NCC will be the odds-on choice as #1, while the Corbin Redhounds will hold down the #2 position.

3A will feature Belfry receving 14/15 first place votes (the other going to Central who I believe is either 6th or 7th), Breathitt County is second.

4A.. Bell County and LexCath are the odds on #1 and #2 teams.

You can guess the 5A and 6A top teams.. Highlands/BG in 5A... St.X/Trinity in 6A.

Is Hazard really a legitimate #1 team in 1A?:sssh:

Despite the records, this is a big surprise to me? BW with a couple losses, to the #1 ranked 2-A team and a "much better than their record" 5-A team; but appears to have played a much better schedule. Might not be wise to give the Tigers some added bulletin board material??

Hazard has a nice team and may very well be in the finals. But unless there is a good reason to think they would beat either Covington Catholic or Newport Catholic, the two teams that beat Beechwood, I don't see how they can be rated #1.

It's painfully apparent that many AP voters take a juvenile approach to the poll, thinking that just because a team loses, they have to drop. Does anyone actually pay attention to who teams are playing, and beating, and how competitive they are in losses to teams from higher classes?

Hazard is top 5 material, but #1????

Hazard is for real but I do not think that they should be #1, imo that belongs to Beechwood.

That is a nice gesture, but means nothing. Hopefully Hazard understands they have to earn the number one ranking the next 5 weeks. The state AP poll means nothing!

If they had some reason to think they would beat Beechwood, but even after thumping LCA,I can't figure Hazard pulling that off.I could see a #2 or #3 ranking though, but I guess that's why they don't call me for my oppinion on these things before voting.

This will only fire Beechwood up even more as they have lost to a 5A in CovCath and a #1 2A team in NewCath. WOW this will be interesting as the weeks unfold. GO TIGER'S! JD

I think Hazard is for real.

I think Louisville Central is a wild card. If they come to play, they could be a handful, but if they don't bring it they are little more than average.

The Tigers will love being the underdog. Hazard is undefeated and deserves the X on their back. BHS hasn't beaten anyone worth speaking of except for maybe Dixie and Prestonsburg, so why should they be #1.:jump:

Once again, the rankings, so what!

Should be interesting. After watching Beechwood play Friday night, they shouldn't have any problem bringing home the State Title for Northern KY once again....

I think if a team goes undefeated they deserve to be ranked # 1, especially after beating a ranked team handily the last week and the #1 team losing that week.

I guess the AP voters are taken the same juvenile approach that voters take in NCAA polls.

I'm still not sure Hazard is a lock to win their district, being number 1 in the state is a reach. Yes they are undefeated but every team they will face between now and the state championship has a legit shot at knocking them off.

I agree, but still a deserving ranking. They have done something no other 1A team has done. Even though it means nothing as far as playoffs go, it means something to them.
