I agree, but still a deserving ranking. They have done something no other 1A team has done. Even though it means nothing as far as playoffs go, it means something to them.

A ranking yes, but by this kind of justification we could say well Hawaii is undefeated so they obviously deserve to be in the BCS championship game. You just can't make someone number 1 because they are undefeated. A loss to a really good team can mean more than a win over a weak one.

What did Hazard's opponents do compared to what Beechwood's did? I mean, how many winning teams (.500+) did each play/defeat and what did the teams that Beechwood lost to do and what class are they in? Going undefeated is nice, but going undefeated against an easier schedule does not make #1 a birthright!!!

Hazard is 10-0. They may not win the state, that remains to be seen. But they are undefeated. They have beaten 5A teams Letcher Central (9-1), Perry Central (7-3), and Clay Co. (5-5??). Lexington Christian, Lynn Camp, and Cumberland, all of whom were ranked in the top ten or higher at some point in the year. So do I think they will win it? Got as good a shot as anyone else. Do they deserve to be ranked #1? Yes. They have blown most of the teams they played out. They beat LCA 41-21 and could have beat them worse.

My justification is they are undefeated, no one else is, they beat 2 teams ranked in 1A top 10, both rather easily. Are they as good as Beechwood, probably not. But it is what it is, a ranking, it has to be based on something. Cov cath is a good team, but I dont think you can call Lex Christian a weak one. I think there have probably been ALOT more teams drop in polls after getting beat by good teams.

I agree with you 100%. Could Hazard beat NCC? Beechwood is a class team and battled NCC to the end. Beechwood should still be ranked #1 (just my personal opinion).

Beechwood may very well be the #1 1A team but why shouldn't Hazard not be #1? I dont believe Beechwood is a 100% lock to win the title. A few injuries here and there and you never know. Hazard played their schedule perfect and at this point they might deserve to be called #1. After saying all of that, I believe either Beechwood, Frankfort or Mayfield will win the title with Beechwood being the favorite.

Could someone post the latest AP poll? Is HHS still first in 5A?

It's painfully apparent that many AP voters take a juvenile approach to the poll, thinking that just because a team loses, they have to drop. Does anyone actually pay attention to who teams are playing, and beating, and how competitive they are in losses to teams from higher classes?

You're not the first person to make that parallel ...

Hazard has a nice team and may very well be in the finals. But unless there is a good reason to think they would beat either Covington Catholic or Newport Catholic, the two teams that beat Beechwood, I don't see how they can be rated #1.

I'm not so sure it's not the juvenile approach from the viewer and their view point. Three 5A teams above .500 -- 9-1, 7-3, 5-5 and won all three. Not to shabby. Looks pretty deserving to me.

BUT i sure can't argue the BCS crowd.
