  1. Highlands will have a lot more trouble in 4A than they have the past 4 years in 5A. They have not had to compete with Boyle County, Bell County, and Lexington Catholic during the past 4 years. Those 3 are the teams that had given them the most trouble while in 4 classes. Highlands has had exceptional teams the past few years, but the 5A playoffs have not offered them much competition. Bell County, LexCath and Boyle County will offer a much tougher road to the State Championship for the 'Birds.
  2. Why wouldn't the KHSAA want to use the best enrollment numbers available? The most accurate way to decide where a school should be aligned for the 2011 and 2012 seasons would be to use numbers from the previous 2 years. By using the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 numbers you are getting a count of kids that will actually play during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. All kids that were enrolled in schools in 2008/2009 will have graduated by the 2012 season. If the most fair and accurate alignment to all schools involves finalizing the alignment in December rather than October, then so be it. The alignment should be done the right way rather than the easiest way.
  3. Thanks for the link. Franklin County's enrollment figures are inaccurate on this link. According to the KHSAA single year enrollment numbers, Franklin County's enrollment was 536 in 2009/2010 and 536 in 2008/2009. That would put them in 5A based on the link rather than 3A. http://www.khsaa.org/reports/enrollments/20082009schoolenrollmenttotalsbyalpha.pdf http://www.khsaa.org/reports/enrollments/20092010schoolenrollmenttotalsbyalpha.pdf Will the KHSAA 2 year average 2009/2010 and 2010/2011? Or 2008/2009 and 2009/2010.
  4. I believe the super class will stay, but the bottom 16 will not happen. IMO, The bottom 5 will be evenly distributed. I also think teams will be allowed to move up simply based on the past.
  5. I apologize if you were offended. That was truly not my intention. I was just stating that there are signs as you drive by on Madison Avenue that are asking for people from the community to be mentors to students in Covington.
  6. Holmes High School has an excellent mentoring program and is always looking for volunteers from the community. Maybe you should apply to be a mentor and show everybody in Covington how being a father, mentor and coach is done. I am sure you could call Holmes and get the information you would need. It is very easy to sit back at your computer and type comments about how the Holmes community failed this kid. Why don't you put your time, money and mentoring skills to work?
  7. I don't disagree that the schools mentioned would be a better match.
  8. The things bolded are based on hard work and dedication to a program. The Colerain kids were not just born superior to the Ryle kids.
  9. Just out of curiosity, what exactly make Colerain's 15 to 18 year olds different than Ryles? I will say that it might be Ryle's 15 to 18 year olds against Colerains 17 and 18 year olds, but i dont think Colerain kids drink any magic water that gives them a competitive advantage. The programs and number of kids in the program might be apples to oranges, but not the ages of the kids.
  10. I think this is a great game to schedule. What does Ryle have to lose? They are similar in school size. It can only make them better. After all, we are talking about 15 to 18 year old kids playing against 15 to 18 year old kids.
  11. Too many jealous haters out there to really appreciate an accomplishment like this. Does a #2 ranking mean that Highlands is the 2nd best team in the country? No. Does it mean that Highlands took care of their schedule and the other teams ranked higher than them in the poll did not? Yes. Per Vince Lombardi - Maybe "It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever.... The one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it." Congratulations to the Highlands football program!
  12. Really??? IMO, Paducah would have been beaten by every other team in the Championship games. Winners and losers in 1A, 2A, 4A, 5A and 6A. Highlands would name the score. Congratulations to Paducah for winning the state championship.
  13. In a high scoring game, i would go with Lone Oak, but if it is a low scoring game I would choose Boyle. I think it will come down to Boyle's defense. They are very good on defense and I would take a good defense over a good offense any day. Good luck to both teams!
  14. Holmes did not have to "find a way" to get out of 5A. Holmes is now in the correct classification per male enrollment. They are the 13th smallest 4A school in the state. That means 23 schools in 4A are bigger than Holmes (452boys) including district opponents Franklin County (546 boys) and Harrison County (495 boys). What would be gained by 'playing up' in class? It is the school's job to give it's kids the best opportunity to succeed. The Covington Independent Schools administration has done just that and the kids are taking advantage of the opportunity. Holmes does not expect a easy road in 4A. There are some very talented, tradition rich schools in 4A including LexCath, Boyle and Bell to name a few. Holmes just wants the chance to compete for championships against schools the same size as them. Why would you criticize them for that? Go Bulldogs!
  15. Holmes did not cancel the game. Cooper did not have any officials scheduled for tonight. No officials=No game.
  16. No SK was not up by 7 TDs. Simpson was hurt in the first quarter of the 2nd scrimmage.
  17. Do they play knothole baseball at 10AM? That is when Dayton practiced. If kids did not show in June, it had nothing to do with Knothole baseball. That is a cop out for a couple of kids that did not want to wake up and work hard.
  18. It was only a passing league, but Holmes did beat Newport.
  19. Not gonna highjack the thread. Try it, don't get out a tape measure to measure your foot to your knee. Put a bar on your back with no weight, squat down and touch your butt to a 12 inch box. It is safe, effective and guarantees an at least parallel squat. Here are some articles that talk about it. The MSN has a picture. http://www.betterfasterstronger.com/home/MagDetails.asp?id=353&previd=18&MagCat=_Spring http://www.deepsquatter.com/strength/archives/ls9.htm http://health.msn.com/fitness/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100165590 Lets use pm if you want to discuss it further. Best wishes to Walton Verona. Coach Barth will do a great job.
  20. If you squat and touch your butt to a 12 inch box I bet your thighs will be very close to parallel to the ground. I would say anybody over 6'2" may be below parallel, but there is no more of an injury risk.
  21. I can see a 300 bench and a 215 clean, but a 600 pound parallel squat is not a believeable stat. I went to a pretty good college and the best squat was a freakishly strong defensive lineman who squated 550 to a 12 inch box. Regardless, I have never seen a squat rack on the football field. I believe Coach Barth will do a very good job with these kids. Best wishes to Coach Barth and Walton football!
  22. Congratulations to Coach Baioni and the 'birds. Coach Baioni has them playing their best at the right time! Good luck!
  23. I think it would be interesting to see a list of guys from X or T that were not the head coach who have gone on to become head coaches. What were there records and how successful were they? I know that Andrew Coverdale is a great football coach and he struggled at Castle. I believe he was 16 - 17 in 3 years and Castle has a very strong football tradition. There is a reason why coaches at X and Trinity get there and stay. Can anyone name some others and the success that followed them?
