  1. Central had exactly 0 state titles before 6 classes. They were 3A. Nobody has benefited more.
  2. This is a byproduct of the 6 class system. Instead of Highlands, Boyle County, Lexington Catholic, Bell County and Bowling Green all competing for a 3A title the past 6 years, they were all winning titles in various years without having to play each other. The 1st four years of 6 classes, Highlands, CovCath and BG were 5A, but otherwise 5A was very, very weak. Boyle, Bell and LexCath were 4A and each won at least 1 title. The 6 years before 6 classes, the 3A Champion was Boyle 3 times, LexCath, Highlands and CovCath all one time. BG played for the title in most years, but there was 1 champion. When teams like Highlands keep winning titles, they become stronger and separate themselves from the pack even more. Until last year Highlands did not have to play 2 of the 3 teams that had beaten them the final 6 years of 4 classes. The health of KY football is very poor. The culprit is that 6 classes have watered down and separated the competition so much that the rich have gotten richer. Some teams are winning titles every year because of the system.
  3. You only have to be better than them for 2 hours on Saturday afternoon!
  4. Your question is flawed. The answer is accurate. You cannot lump independent and private schools. Independent schools are public. Also, county schools can set their own regulations too. See Kenton County open enrollment vs. Boone County not open enrollment.
  5. You are right. You can't help me because you do not know what you are talking about. Independent schools are public schools. They are funded by property taxes. People in Ft.Thomas, Ft. Mitchell, Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, Covington, etc. pay property taxes that are used to fund the schools. People in Boone and Kenton County pay property taxes that are used to fund the public schools in Kenton and Boone County. People in Ft. Mitchell do not pay a school tax to Kenton County. The school tax they pay goes to Beechwood Independent. Also, they all receive money from the state of KY. Private schools are not funded by tax payer dollars. Independent and Private schools are not the same. The answer to your question is BG, Highlands, Cooper, Mayfield, Caldwell County, Belfry, PRP, Collins, Fairview, and Central are all public schools in the finals. NCC and Trinity are Private schools in the finals. Of those Belfry, BG, Highlands, Mayfield and (Fairview, I think) are Independent Public schools. The others are County Public Schools. The finals have 10 public schools and 2 private schools.
  6. So schools with open enrollment are not Public? I am completely correct when I say no 5A schools are private. I also said I do not buy the "independent districts have all these advantages" argument. My argument is based upon Bellevue, Dayton and Ludlow being independent. Independent districts are public schools. Private schools are a different story. Bowling Green is independent and Cooper is a a County school. Both are public schools.
  7. How many private schools are in 5A? Zero. I don't buy the independent school thing. Dayton, Ludlow, Newport and Bellevue are independent too. 6 Classes are too many. It allows for too much overlap. I would bet if you looked at the 2A - 5A with enrollment numbers for this year, there would be no defined boundary lines. The KHSAA used 3 year old numbers when they realigned back in 2010. The numbers that are classifying the 2013/2014 seasons are from 2007/2008. If the KHSAA is not going to use current numbers, classification is meaningless outside of 1A and 6A.
  8. Actually, you are wrong. http://khsaa.org/httpdocs/football/realignment/20112014/2011-2014%20School%20Listing.pdf This will show Cooper right in the middle of 4A between Rockcastle County and Pendleton County. Those Bold black lines show the classification cutoffs. Cooper petitioned to move up to 5A. This is a fact. Of course you like the current 6 class system. Cooper is a very good team, but Cooper is also a beneficiary of the system.
  9. The point is there are too many classes. There really is not a class system. It is very, very flawed. In fact Cooper was originally classified in 4A and in a district with Highlands and CovCath. They asked to move up in class and were allowed. Why was that? LexCath asked to move up too and were not allowed although geographically it made way more sense to let LexCath move up in class. If you want to get rid of the regional and semifinal blowouts, go back to 4 classes.
  10. IMO, Jones would be a fool to leave UC for UK.
  11. Interesting fact: The 6 years prior to the 6 class system (2001 - 2006) Highlands and CovCath both had exactly 1 AAA State Championship a piece. During these years Boyle County won 3 titles, Lexington Catholic won 1 title. Enter 6 Classes with Highlands keeping stability in coaching, and CovCath having coaching instability and you have Highlands winning 5 Straight titles. Also, during 4 of these years Boyle County and Lexington Catholic were in a different classification. 6 classes could not have come at a better time for Highlands or a worse time for CovCath. My point being, it is going to take time for CovCath to overcome that coaching instability. Coach Wirth is closing the gap and his teams improve every year. It took Dale 3 years to win his first championship and he did not have to compete with a beast like Highlands. CovCath was good at the time, but no where near the machine Highlands has become.
  12. McKee and 194 other schools voted for a public/private split in 2005. http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20051021/SPORTS05/51021007/Schools-approve-public-private-split. The schools also voted to close the state borders for athletes. The split never happened and neither did the border closure. I personally do not think a split is the answer. Trinity wins the game. Zero deep, Man coverage all the time is not the answer for defending Trinity.
  13. You are correct, it was Ashland. Either way. I understand that teams improve and I believe Beechwood and NewCath both have teams that could win 1A and 2A. Improvement happens throughout the course of the year, but don't you think Holmes would have also beaten Lloyd, Newport, Dayton, Bellevue, Paris, Gallatin County, Walton etc. If not, why not?
  14. Based upon what info? Week 10 Holmes beat Holy Cross 50 - 0. Week 12 NewCath beat Holy Cross 52 - 0. I know that score comparisons don't always work out, but what is the reasoning? I would argue the largest difference between Holmes, Beechwood and NewCath is who each had to play in district. If NewCath or Beechwood had to play Highlands, CovCath and then Johnson Central in the playoffs, they would be sitting at home right now, just like Holmes.
  15. Didn't Holmes beat NewCath, Beechwood, and Scott? Shouldn't they be Top 10? Is it held against Holmes that they finished the season against Highlands, CovCath and Johnson Central? Would NCC or Beechwood have fared any better than Holmes did in those games? This is why all class Top 10's are illogical.
  16. Not quite. Harlan County would be more like Newport, Bellevue and Dayton combining. Cooper wins this game although I would expect it will be a very physical game. Tom Larkey led Rockcastle for a long time and is a great coach.
  17. I don't see it. I understand that NewCath had some injuries early, but the biggest key to the past 7 games for NewCath is who they played. They are a very good 2A team. Nothing more.
  18. They are adapting. They are cutting hours and firing workers. I would consider that adapting. The blame of why they are firing workers and cutting hours is on Obamacare. I think it is pretty clear that they are adapting at the expense of the workers. Elections have consequences.
  19. Rice was the sacrificial lamb, but I would hope somebody in her position isn't naive enough to believe it was over a youtube video.
  20. In looking at the stats for PCC throughout the year, they seem pretty consistent with this game too. What was the proof of this? Are they usually shotgun and went under center?
  21. Good point. I understand this, but they would not have to shovel money into government pensions. A company would combine regular mail with the business that is already being done by the company. The private sector either turns a profit or goes out of business.
  22. They receive some tax money, just not for day to day operations. They still need to privatize. Any time congress has to take action for something to be successful, there is a problem.
