Our Bearcats grew up a little bit tonight. Down double digits most of the 2nd half, they showed a lot of heart and battled back to send the game to O.T. Keep working hard and improving and the wins will come. Congratulations to the Raiders and good luck tomorrow in the semis.

Clyde, I am a WV fan. The coaches from Gallatin Co. were telling their players to foul. They just didn't do it. Overall, GREAT game for WV and a good performance from Gallatin Co. They were in foul trouble the whole game and couldn't over come it. Coach Roberts, staff, and players showed a lot of class during and after the game. Good luck to them the rest of the year. If you haven't seen the Dossett girls play, you need to watch them! Good luck to Coach Clinkenbeard and staff tomorrow in the finals. They have done a great job overcoming injuries all year and have the girls playing their best basketball of the season!

I was at the game last night and i am the one who yelled about it. I don't like the rule, but if the referees see it, they have to call it. It is kind of like dunking in warm-ups. If a ref sees the kid do it, they have to call it. It is a rule! If a number is wrong in the scorebook does a ref want to call a technical? No, but they have to because it is a rule. If you are not going to enforce it, why have it in the rule book? All that said, it is a stupid rule! By the way, we did lose by 1, maybe we would have won by 1 instead. You never know????

As a former coach, i screamed at referees all the time. Looking back on it, i was probably a little to harsh. It is easy to sit back and complain, but until you have actually tried to be a ref, you have no idea how HARD it is.

Glad to hear Cummins is playing again. Great kid and a great family.

Good point Glory! There are a lot of great kids in the program right now. My son has played with most of them since 1st grade. I hope they all have a great season and enjoy playing for the new coach.

It is a shame that there is so much negativity about the Braves program right now. There are a lot of good people that have worked in and around the basketball program for the last 10 years or so. I think everyone needs to step back and take a deep breath. Coach Grammer, good luck as you put your stamp on Grant County Basketball. I grew up a Brave and coached for 14 years at the school. If you ever need anything i will be glad to assist you. Coach Utter and Coach Plunkett, 2 of the best assistants that anyone could ever have! They were loyal to whoever their head coach was at the time and even more loyal to the school! Coach Utter got some bad advice from me when he had to take over and it might have cost him the permanent job the next year. When Coach Hicks was hired over him, he handled it with class and continued to try to help young men grow as players and as a person. Coach Plunkett could have stayed at Williamstown and would have probably became the head coach, but wanted to come back to his alma mater and give back to his school. Sorry i didn't stay and get to keep coaching with you. Coach Hicks did a great job of bringing excitement into the program. Whether you loved him or hated him no one could ever question Coach Hicks work ethic or desire to win. I enjoyed our conversations over the past 3 years. Good luck at Shelby Valley! Coach Tyler Jones and Bobby Burgess both love the Braves program. Coach Jones, I am sorry that we didn't get to continue working together. The way i handled that situation was not right. I hope to see you back on the sideline some day. Bobby B, thanks for all you did over the years and i hope you can let all your frustration go towards the school and get back to doing what you love, HELPING KIDS!. Again, i will close with GOOD LUCK as the program moves forward.

I know i shouldn't respond but i have to because that is just the way that i am! First, let me say that Coach Hicks did a good job while at Grant County. They won 24 games this year and i don't care what kind of schedule you play if you win 24 games you are doing something right. Good luck to him at Shelby Valley. However, to say that it wasn't competitive when i left or that i ruined the program i can not sit back and take that. This year: Varsity 24-6 Big Wins (Simon Kenton -2, Rowan Co.-2) lost in District Finals by 1 and lost in 1st Rd of Region by 17 JV 15-3 Freshman 7-6 Total Program Record 46-15 2008-09 My last full year Varsity 19-13 Big Wins (Simon Kenton, South Oldham, East Jessamine, Cooper, and Shelby Co(Before Collins existed) lost in District Finals by 3, got beat by 1 in OT in 1st rd of region JV 12-8 Freshman 17-3 Total Record of Program 48-24 I would consider this about equal as far as the state of the program. I would also mention that the 2 assistants that Coach Hicks had were brought in by me. Let's roll, maybe you don't like me and that is fine, but i will not sit back and let you say i ruined the program! I gave my heart and soul to that program and to that school.

That is their decision and they will have to live with that. That is a family decision and shouldn't impact anyone else on here.

It is a shame that we get on here and question a family's decision about where to send their kids to school. As a parent, i want what is best for my kids, period! As a parent of a fellow WV basketball player, i would love for the Moeves to stay and help build our program and help us win. However, i am not going to judge or be critiical of a parent that wants to do what they think is best for their children. Let's close this thread and start talking about basketball!

Some people just seem to want to bad mouth one or the other. Khalid you must be pretty close to the situation if you know the names of kids that didn't even finish playing. I can't believe you couldn't remember Jones' name in your earlier thread.

As the former Coach, , people have mentioned Carr, Shafer, and Jones as possibly the best players in recent history. I think people should also realize that Dustin Plunkett, current JV Coach was a pretty good player himself. I would argue he might be the most underrated player in school history. Freshman year had to play behind Shafer and Jones, Sophomore and Jr. year had to play 2nd fiddle to Jones and didn't get the limelight until his Sr. year. I would take any of the 4 on any team i would coach and take my chances. People need to quit being on one side of the fence or the other. It is Grant County High School, not Ron Kinmon or Jim Hicks High School. Both coaches have had success and people from both sides should be adult enough to acknowledge it.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Coach Hicks or this years team. I just think some people have tried to make it sound like Grant Co was horrible and in shambles when Hicks got there. It wasn't that bad! He has done a good job and I don't want to take from that. The 08-09 team was pretty good!

Hickory in the 2008-09 season the Braves went 19-13, beat Simon Kenton, Shelby County, South Oldham, East Jessamine, and Cooper. I hate that people make it sound like it has been forever since they won. The lost to Simon Kenton by 3 in the District Finals and got beat in OT in 1st rd of Region. That is not far off from where they were this year.

I agree. The man worked hard for many years to help Dayton schools and the students there.

I am not upset at all. I try not to sit on a message board and criticize people. I try to have conversations and give insight. I hate that people are so critical of HS coaches and players. I worked my butt off for 14 years as a coach and had decent success and great relationships with my players. However, I never won a regional tournament or multiple district tournaments. So based on what many people post on here that makes me a failure. I just think people need to realize, HS coaches work as a coach as their 2nd job. They spend most of their time teaching. They get paid next to nothing for all the time and work they put in. Also, when being critical of players and coaches everyone needs to remember that we are talking about 14-19 year old kids. They can be very immature from time to time.
