I hope I'm not jumping the gun here, but if it's true that Coach Jim Hicks has accepted a position at Shelby Valley, obviously it creates an opening at Grant. Who do the Braves go after? Or, considering the kids they have coming back...more accurately, who goes after the Braves?

 

Do they have enough confidence in Plunkett to take over the reigns from the JV level, or will they go outside the "family"?

 

Regardless of what happens, will there be any attrition to the players coming back? This was a team that was expected to contend for the region next year.

It might be a good time for Steve Simpson to go home. He went to state with south Oldham last year. He is eligible to retire, so he may want to go back to his roots. He would be my front runner. I think Plunkett will make a good varsity coach, but I don't know if GC gives him a shot when they can get an experienced coach.

It does look like Coach Hicks is gone. Since Simpson wasn't interested three years ago and is now eligible to retire, maybe he would be interested in a short term coaching experience. That would give Plunkett more time to learn and work with an experienced coach. Would Coach Utter be interested and be considered? He did fill the interim role before Hicks was hired. Also, former girls head coach Guffey may put his name in the hat. It is bad timing because most of the available coaches have found new homes so they may have to look internally. Should be interesting.

What about Shawn Thacker at Rowan County...If he doesn't get the Montgomery County job would he be interested in the Grant County opening?

If any coach is interested in that job they're crazy! That place is a train wreck to work and has some of the worst administrators in the state. I pity anyone that has the misfortune of working in that school.

So true, and a good group of seniors. Hicks is a joke at best, like to see him go to New Mexico so I'd never here his name again. He could really pad his schedule there. His terrible scheduling really hurt his team down the stretch last year. Coach Simpson is a good coach at a good program and would be nuts to leave to go to Grant even with the talent returning.

That joke you are talking about has already helped more kids have the opportunity to go to college and play basketball than you will ever realize! It has been 6-8 years since Grant has had a kid to go just for basketball. So keep on being a joke Coach, My son will laugh all the way across the stage when he receives his college degree 5 years from now thanks to you. And I'm sure the other players at Grant Co. that you have helped get an opportunity will all be rolling on the floor laughing .

Great junior class returning for their senior season. I have seen the Braves schedule already and it is definately beefed up over last year. They added region matchups with South Oldham and Oldham County. They add an improved Boone County and Campbell County and again plays Ryle.

I've always thought that the Grant Co. job would be an attractive place to be. Good size school near NKY and in a district with 2 All 'A' schools. You would think there would be high interest for this position considering the talent that is there now.

Glad to see Hicks go....from the outside he always made himself the center of attention instead of crediting the players. Loved seeing him wave the student section onto the floor in a regular season game vs. SK this year.

IMO Plunkett would be a great choice. I remember watching him play there during the early 2000's. Grant County needs someone who is going to be dedicated to their program. They have the potential to have a great program like they were during the late 90's and early 2000's.
