Holy Cow!! How can anyone be commenting or speculating about who's getting or not getting the job at Grant Co......has anyone confirmed that he's signed a new contract and submitted his resignation? Are you folks up there sure that Coach Hicks is leaving?

Well if the inept administration has their choice it will be a butt kisser who probably is already telling the administration what a great job they are doing. Mr. Hicks was never a yes man and new about how poorly that school is run. The state has already made numerous visits for questionable money handling. I am so glad my kid left there 3 years ago. When you have a Principal that got the job with as little experience as she has what do you expect. This person has taught Agricultural Science or something like that for a short period of time and then bam, they are Principal. They are in way over their head. Mr. Hicks was railroaded out of there like Mr. Arvin was. Both men have taught at numerous schools and they both know different but correct ways to get the job done. At Grant County there is only one way, the Principals way. Mr. Hicks held the young men accountable and earn their playing time. He will be sorely missed and Shelby Valley is getting a quality coach and a quality man.

 

Like I said I am glad my kid left there 3 years ago because that school is going down hill quick. The school board decided to give the Superintendent $34,000 to go get his Doctorate when they are also laying of teachers and increasing class sizes. But they say this decision will help the kids, yeah because having a Superintendent with a Doctorate is better than having an extra teacher in the school. Good luck Mr. Hicks, the few good folks of Grant County will miss you.

That's the best thing I have ever heard! That's Grant county for ya! Hicks is for sure gone but word on the street is that Tyler Carr is leaving grant for Scott or another big time program ! Is that true @BGCat? Plunkett should get a shot but he will not be interested because he just had a baby and is very deeply committed to other more important things PERIOD! Don't leave it up Grant to hire a solid coach cause they NEVER DO! The athletic director has the experience and understanding to find a great coach but is hog tied! If Bobby Burgess doesn't burn down the gym for their ignorance it will a shock because he had a BIG HAND in bringing in Coach Hicks! Coach Hicks will be missed because even the people that don't like everything about him know he is a solid coach and has brought Grant back to the standard of competitiveness that has been lacking after Ron Kinmon ruined a solid new upcoming program!

Most likely Grant will hire from within the school so they do not deal with the drama of another outsider! The more Grant waits to hire a new coach, the more pressure it puts on the returning players and the new coach because everyday Grant falls farther behind the other 8 region programs!

I wish Carr would stay so he could possibly break Jones scoring record. He would be looked at better by doing that than leaving for another program although that is understandable.

Can't say this is a surprise. For Braves basketball, Hicks' departure will be missed. Although Hicks is criticized for playing a soft schedule, you have to hand it to the man, a win is a win. You had to start somewhere to get the taste of victory in a program that had been used to meritocracy since the end of Kinmon's time. It would be in the best interest for Grant to consider Plunkett for the job, but when was the last time a reasonable decision was made in this county? Cleaning house may be the best option for the program as it looks like Utter is long gone as well.

 

Steve Simpson, while a worthy candidate, may not be the best option for Grant. If the program wants to sustain any sense of pride and morale, they will need a coach that will remain long-term. Returning home for Simpson may seem nice, but by being this close to retirement, will he really want to put up with the circus surrounding the team? Grant needs to find an experienced coach with a clean slate, unlike Hicks, that will remain there for awhile. As a former player, it is unfortunate to see the coaching changes and drama that has plagued the team in recent years. I hope the best for the search committee and trust they have the POTENTIAL to make a great hire!

 

The talent is there, and Grant is a favorite for representing the 8th region at Rupp next march. Hopefully someone can take this challenge on and lead the Braves to Lexington!

They have the POTENTIAL to hire a solid coach!!! Hicks was a solid coach, but was not a long term kind of guy.

I would agree Grant is definitely a contender. However, Grant is not clearly the favorite. All three Oldham schools will be good, Collins is still very good. I think Grant wins the 32nd District, however, they haven't beaten any of the big boys. All of their baskets come from outside, they need a post presence to be the favorite.

yes Grant hired Hicks but that is the first big time outside coach that Grant has brought in at any sport in awhile I do believe. Hicks wasnt a guy that did what he was told because he was scared and i think that was a reason why he left so soon with all this talent coming back.

Grant has a younger kid on the bench that has the size but hasnt ever played basketball. He improved alot last season and hopefully is playing ball this summer to improve his skills. They have a shot but they are not and should not be the favorite by any means.

Grants tenacity and hustle more than made up for their lack of size inside. Lack of size may not even be the right phrase to use. They have two 6'5" kids Saylor and Schneider that can get the job done for the Braves. Hopefully they can find a coach soon, development this summer will be the determinant in how next season pans out.

For what it is worth...if that is how you genuinely feel, you don't need to justify to anyone...especially some of the people on here.
