For what it is worth...if that is how you genuinely feel, you don't need to justify to anyone...especially some of the people on here.

I liked Coach Kinmon and I don't think he ruined the program. But lets call a spade a spade. The four seasons prior to his last were all losing seasons with pretty lopsided records. He quit coaching at Christmas of 2009 and the team had another poor record that year. The poor record probably would have been the same record had Kinmon continued on as coach for that whole year. I'm not saying Ron was a bad coach, but the reasoning given in the previous few posts are kind of weak when looking at the bigger picture. And yes if you go back further and look at the biggest picture you will find that he did have success and even came close once to going to Rupp.

I don't know that you can make that assumption. You look at four regular season games that they lost after Kinmon left...two in overtime (Oldham and Montgomery County), one game by 3 points (Walton) and another by 1 point (Henry County)...plus, the district tournament game (6 point game to Walton)...and that team could've very easily have been 15-11 and playing in the regional tournament.

 

I take nothing away from Coach Utter. But the thing that Ron had over him, was experience. And not necessarily with his own kids...but, he'd been around enough to know some of the habits and tendancies that the opposing coaches might rely on in crunch time. That could've been the difference between a W and an L in those tight games. THAT'S what I think you have to consider, when looking at that last year.

At this point I have not heard any names. I am sure that some are interested but who knows who.......?

I know it's been mentioned that the job opening has been posted on the school's website, but I noticed it's not been put on the KHSAA site yet. Is that odd? Or is there another source that usually provides the openings around the state?

I would think it should be listed on the KHSAA site. The only reason that I would think they wouldn't, could possibly be if they already have someone in mind and have talked to that person about the ins-&-outs of the position. It is odd.

I think it is up to the Athletic Director to post it on there. I think it is optional to post extracurricular positions, unlike teaching positions which have to be posted on KEPS.

That's what I would've thought. Just checked again, and saw there's only two postings for Grant County...an assistant girls basketball coach, and a boys assistant basketball coach. The funny thing is, the girls position has a contact of the AD...while the boys position still has Jim Hicks as the contact. :lol2:

Sportsmaniac, great job as GC head coach. kids always played hard and were very good fundamentally. I also believe that one of his bunch beat the mighty Scott County or gave them all they wanted a time or two. :thumb:
