Grant County opening has been filled

What is Coach Plunkett's background?

If I'm not mistaken, since college he has been coaching at various ranks, starting at Williamstown and then to Grant County.

Glad to see Hicks go....from the outside he always made himself the center of attention instead of crediting the players. Loved seeing him wave the student section onto the floor in a regular season game vs. SK this year.

Who gets that excited over a narrow win in a regular season game?

I think the SK faithful are glad to see him go because they saw that the gap was closing between the 2 schools and I understand that from a fans perspective. It is typical for any fan of district rivals to try to make the opposing team look bad. Coach Hicks NEVER made it about himself. He gave credit to the kids in every interview I have seen or read in the past 3 seasons. The priorities that he preached to the team regularly were God, Family,School and Basketball. So for people to call him a joke or offer up criticism for him trying to build the Grant Co basketball program to have a level of excitement that they haven't seen in years is totally classless!

My son is extremely proud to have had the opportunity to have played for him the last 3 years and thankful that Coach Hicks gave him the opportunities he has. Coach Hicks is a very passionate person and wants to win EVERY TIME his team takes the floor, Regular season game or not!

Good Luck Coach!

I admire your support of the guy. However, there is a thin line between dedication and lunacy.

I'd rather this thread not to get into the personal feelings towards Coach Hicks or his coaching style. What works for some, doesn't work for others. What's seen by people on the inside as one thing, could be viewed differently by others on the outside. So, can we please drop any attacks?

I'd like to wish Coach Hicks the best of luck at Shelby Valley, and would rather focus this thread on who Grant will have on the sideline next year.

I heard they would not give Plunkett the time of day. Utter could not get it three years ago because of "lack of experience" so why would he get it now. It was said they aren't hiring from within the district. That means it won' t be Guffey or West. Good luck in the search. Good luck to the players. Sorry to see coach Hicks to leave.

Sad to hear that. Not saying Plunkett would be the best candidate (just because you don't know who will ultimately apply)...but I think he'd deserve at least some consideration.

As to the Utter situation, that was totally a raw deal. He was pretty much forced to run another coach's playbook, due to the sudden departure of Kinmon after the season had already started.

Plunkett is a great option. He is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and very passionate. He has actually work under three separate head coaches. Take it from me Utter will not be coaching next season at any level except his 7 year old son!

Holy Cow!! How can anyone be commenting or speculating about who's getting or not getting the job at Grant Co......has anyone confirmed that he's signed a new contract and submitted his resignation? Are you folks up there sure that Coach Hicks is leaving?

HE IS LEAVING!!!! Period.

Yes, it's official. Coach Hicks is leaving Grant County. His coaching position has all ready been posted on the schools' website. So has one of the assistant positions.

Things must have been pretty tough for Coach Hicks at Grant County for him to leave with the players that are returning. I would think it would be hard to walk away from that.

Off the subject, but is Grant County's football Coach that came from Bracken County still there or did he move on?

Siple is still there and has had pretty good numbers in the offseason. I will say that Grant has had some interesting hiring processes in the past.

do we have a revised candidate list?

I haven't heard the original candidate list, let alone a revised one! :lol2:
