  1. Did the KHSAA include middle school students who played on High School teams in these numbers?
  2. Here are some ideas: contract MLB to 28 teams, but add 2 roster spots to each team (27 players). This increases total MLB players to 756 from 750. Players union is happy. Go back to 4 divisions of 7. NL East and West and AL East and West. I will use NL East as my example. Play 6 other teams in division 12 times (72 games). Play 7 other teams in NL 6 times each (42 games). 1st year all NL East teams play AL EAST teams on the road 3 games (21 games) and all AL West teams at home (21 games). Total games played is 156. Each team loses revenue from 3 home games but overall revenue only has to be shared by 28 teams. Should balance out. Also, increase rounds of playoffs like this using NL as example. NL-E 1 vs NL-W 4 NL-E 2 vs NL W 3 NL-W 2 vs NL- E 3 NL-W 1 vs NL - E 4 Best of 3 at higher seed Then down to 4 teams best of 5 Then NL Championship series best of 7. More playoffs means more money for owners. There happy. Also, when Interleague play happens you use the DH rule of visiting team. That way I can see the visitors like they are most of the time. THOUGHTS?
  3. I am a basketball guy and a former coach and dread saying this, but fewer games might be better. The thing that football has going for it is that each Friday night is an event and people don't want to miss it. With Basketball teams play 2 or 3 games a week and it is not a big deal to miss a game. I don't think it would fix the problem completely, but it might help if basketball games were more of an event.
  4. I have lots of thoughts about the tournament. I have gone as a coach, fan, and administrator. I think what needs to be done is create an atmosphere of excitement. A lot of open seats even if tickets are sold effects the environment. How many seats are in the bottom bowl of Rupp. Maybe close off the upstairs and charge less for end zone seats or the higher areas of the lower arena?
  5. That's good to know. Jason is a good man and i would hope that they are treating him well there.
  6. Restless with Jason Booher or restless with basketball?
  7. Sportsmaniac and my children will be there. I have taken my son every year for the tournament since he was in Kindergarden. He is a senior this year. 13 years straight for us. We have a blast!
  8. Some of what you say is correct. It is not always the parent, school, or communities fault, but i do think we need to remember that we only pay HS head coaches about 7-8 thousand a year and expect them to have great programs on a shoe string budget. Sometimes the coaches do not need to be head coaches, but that is because it is hard to find quality people to do this much work for that little of pay.
  9. As a former coach that scheduled really tough: Scheduling tough does not always help your program. The first 4 years I was head coach, we probably played some of the toughest schedules in school history. The reward was a barely over .500 record each year, but one. We had 1 regional championship appearance and 1 district title. We were able to compete against the top teams in the region, but still could not beat them. If we would have scheduled a little easier and maybe had 4 20 win seasons instead of just 1, the perception of our program and me as a coach might have been a little different. The reality is most people just look at win totals and do not really understand level of competition. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy the past season. 22 wins is nice! Your team was in the final 64!
  10. Never have understood why people root for others to not have success. Just root for your own team to be successful; not for someone else to fail.
  11. Very proud of our Lady Bearcats this year. Hold your heads high you had a great year. Also, congrats to the Lady Raiders on the win.
  12. Proud of my son, Kyle Kinmon and his teammates. Three of these seniors had to start as sophomores when a lot of kids left the program. They struggled through a 4 win season that year. They continued to work hard and were rewarded with an 18 win season and an appearance in the regional tournament. Proud of all of you!
  13. Nice info 6th Region guy! It just goes to show you how difficult it is to find a good coach and keep them. The expectations are higher than ever before for coaches on the court and in the classroom. We expect HS coaches to coach like they are college coaches, but pay them a part-time salary. It is a shame how our schools, parents, and communities treat HS coaches.
  14. Great performance by the Lady Bearcats. They executed their game plan and did not panic when Anderson Co. made their run. Then they closed out the game by making their free throws. Great job to the players and staff!
  15. Listen i have been known to yell at officials and complain about them. However, i want to defend them somewhat in this thread. Part of the problem in today's game is the way that the game is taught. In the past you had teams that passed the ball and ran offense and let the offense create a shot opportunity. This allowed for time to pass between whistles. In today's game EVERYONE is lowering their head and driving to the basket. This causes a lot more contact and a lot more tough calls on either block/charge/ or no call. Honestly, the referees could blow their whistle every position. Then we would all be complaining that they don't let the players play.
