Jason Holland, new Montgomery County Coach

Featured Replies

I saw on twitter that Coach Holland has accepted the position.

Jason is a very good coach. I wish him well.

Coach Holland let me be the first to welcome you to the 40th district and the 10th region. :ylsuper:

Having been around Coach Holland for 4 years I can tell you Montgomery Co is getting a very good coach and a better person. I'm very happy for him and I know he will do a great job. Big Jason Holland fan

He had a nice run at OC, winning the region twice in four seasons. Was his first HC job at Henry County?

Here is a article I found:

The Oldham County bench celebrates with Coach Jason Holland against Knott Central, during the quarterfinal round of the Boys Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena. (March 16, 2012) / By Tim Webb, Special to the Courier-Journal

Jason Holland has stepped down as the boys' basketball coach at Oldham County High School to take the same position at Montgomery County, Oldham County athletic director Kevin Combs said Wednesday.

Holland will replace Happy Osborne, who went 33-5 and reached the Sweet 16 semifinals in his only season. Osborne was named the men's basketball coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College on April 21.

Holland went 92-38 in four seasons at Oldham County, winning a pair of Eighth Region titles. His best season was in 2011-12, when the Colonels finished 31-6 and reached the Sweet 16 semifinals. Oldham County finished 25-8 last season, falling to South Oldham in the Eighth Region final.

Neither Holland nor Montgomery County athletic director Gene Heffington could be reached for comment.

"He did an excellent job leading our program, and we're very appreciative of the job he did," Combs said. "(Montgomery County) got themselves a good one. We wish nothing but the best for him."

Prior to his Oldham County stint, Holland was the head coach at Henry County for five seasons, posting a 68-56 record.

Coach Holland has always been a class act. His first season was 2004-05 at Henry County. He took a program from a 3-23 in his first year to the 8th Region All "A" Championship and an 8th Region semis berth before his move to Oldham County after the 08-09 season. Goldie's article captured his success with the Colonels.

We wish him all the best. Hope to see him when the Indians travel to Scott or Campbell County.

I knew he graduated from Red Bird high school, but found this where he also coached in Florida.

A graduate of Red Bird and Berea College, he previously coached five seasons at Henry County and one at Wildwood in Florida. At Wildwood, his team went 29-4 and reached the Class 3A sectional (Final Four).

I've seen Holland's teams several times while he was at both Henry County and Oldham County. While he is an excellent coach, I caution Montgomery County fans who haven't seen his teams play to not expect the same run and gun tempo that Happy employed. Holland slows the game down and is not afraid to turn the offense over and over until his team gets a wide open look. Games will be in the 50's alot. But Holland is a great coach, will hold opposing teams to a low score, and will win many games at Montgomery County.

The 3A sectional in Florida would be the elite 8 round, but still do have that kind of record at Wildwood which is not known for basketball at all is an amazing feat! Sounds like MC got another very good coach. Hope they keep this one longer. I was impressed watching his OC team online when they were at the sweet 16.

Coach will be inheriting a team that has some playing experience at the varsity level.

5'11" Sr. guard Bryan Wallace

6'4" Sr. Forward Darius Jones

6'2" Sr. Forward Xavier Piersawl

6'1" Sr. PF Matt Kosier

6'3" Jr. Guard Sam Hodgson

6'4" Jr. Center Chase Hall

6'4" Jr. PF Jared Looney

6'0" Jr. Guard Joe Chism

6'8" Soph. Center Shelby Combs

5'8" Soph. PG Caswell Fuller

6'0" Soph. Guard Art Walker

5'10" Soph. Guard Chaiten Tomlin

These 12 players all got to see playing time at the varsity level and 11 of the 12 got to taste Rupp Arena (even if it was only warming up) and can't wait to get back. The keys will be; how hard are they willing to work and how they adapt to another new system. Some of these players will be adjusting to their 3-4 coach/system.

I really look for Looney to contribute some big minutes next year. He's a great kid with a terrific work ethic, which Coach Holland will love.

So, can we assume that this roster will remain intact?
