Brandon Grammer named new head coach at Grant County

Featured Replies

As Clyde stated in the other thread, Coach Grammer is an NKU grad who was the head coach at Ft Pierce in Florida before moving back to Seneca in Louisville last year.

Thanks RP for starting a new thread. The other one got out of control there at the end.

My biggest question is, is the rest of the staff back in place (besides Utter, who we knew was leaving)? Or will Brandon have to find someone to fill the JV and Freshman coaches' positions? Is that a benefit (getting your own people) or a hinderance (one more task you have to do, before focusing on varsity team)?

Considering how thin jobs are it might be tough to bring people in for a staff. In the other thread there was a statement about how he left Ryle but no details. I would be interested in hearing what that was about.

From what I've been told, none of the former assistants will be back. I think that will make it difficult for Coach Grammer.

Congrats to Coach Grammer and good luck except when you play my son's team!

That's a shame. Their pride just hurts the kids. I hope Grammer finds the guys to help him. Maybe that's why they hired someone with NKY ties.

Do you know any of the former coaches? If not sorry that statement is way off base and bounderline out of line. I know that in at least two cases it has nothing to do with pride.

Your comments about Pride are unwarranted... and you obviously DON'T know these guys. Sad you had to go there.

Don't know them. I talked to a coach at Georgetown this week who is friends with Hicks that said one didn't want to coach because he wasn't interviewed. If I'm mistaken, I'm sorry. Don't know any of the coaches at GC.

Read where Seneca had 4 transfers last year. How long until Grant County gets one? Maybe they were just a coincidence.

If you are talking about Plunkett, you have been given some bad information and you are mistaken. They just had a baby and he had no desire to coach because he wanted to be a father and watch his child grow up. Family first and coaching wasn't his top priority.

Respect! I just hope that's the case. Was told he would've came back with Hicks. I'll see Grammer tomorrow at NKU and ask about his assistants.

I happen to know the entire former coaching staff very well and you are entirely off base. Personally I would have packed my bags 3 years ago when Coach Hicks came to Grant if it was a matter of PRIDE. Coach Plunkett has a 3 month old baby that he is very PROUD of if that's what you mean. Again good luck to the braves this season.

It is a shame that there is so much negativity about the Braves program right now. There are a lot of good people that have worked in and around the basketball program for the last 10 years or so. I think everyone needs to step back and take a deep breath.

Coach Grammer, good luck as you put your stamp on Grant County Basketball. I grew up a Brave and coached for 14 years at the school. If you ever need anything i will be glad to assist you.

Coach Utter and Coach Plunkett, 2 of the best assistants that anyone could ever have! They were loyal to whoever their head coach was at the time and even more loyal to the school!

Coach Utter got some bad advice from me when he had to take over and it might have cost him the permanent job the next year. When Coach Hicks was hired over him, he handled it with class and continued to try to help young men grow as players and as a person.

Coach Plunkett could have stayed at Williamstown and would have probably became the head coach, but wanted to come back to his alma mater and give back to his school. Sorry i didn't stay and get to keep coaching with you.

Coach Hicks did a great job of bringing excitement into the program. Whether you loved him or hated him no one could ever question Coach Hicks work ethic or desire to win. I enjoyed our conversations over the past 3 years. Good luck at Shelby Valley!

Coach Tyler Jones and Bobby Burgess both love the Braves program. Coach Jones, I am sorry that we didn't get to continue working together. The way i handled that situation was not right. I hope to see you back on the sideline some day. Bobby B, thanks for all you did over the years and i hope you can let all your frustration go towards the school and get back to doing what you love, HELPING KIDS!.

Again, i will close with GOOD LUCK as the program moves forward.

I know more about Utter through the past few years. Not too many people would have stayed coaching in his situation. I want to throw this out there too. I don't post a lot on here but this is the gospel.... It's about the kids and I always see people make post that make it about the adults. At the end of the day it's about the players and that's it, so Maybe we could focus on them for a while.
