Not sure what you mean by playing closer during the Wolford era. Glaser did not lose to Male in the regular season or the playoffs from 2007-2012. In fact, most of the games during this time were blowouts for the Tigers.

I think it is more of a talent issue than a scheme issue vs. the Male passing attack. St. X plays a very soft coverage which is designed to take away the deep ball and force the offense to throw underneath. That is what Trinity had much success with earlier in the season, along with running the ball. Male will challenge the Tiger DB's with the deep ball regardless of the coverage in which they align. It will come down to whether or not the St. X DB's can challenge the deep routes. It will be a tall task.

Todd Walsh and many other former assistants would be qualified to be the next X head coach. Coaching experience, not just head coaching experience, is important. With Wolford, there was none of either, as he was never even a varsity assistant at any school, much less St. X. As far as Meiners goes, I would hope that X would learn from their mistake in hiring a coach who is not a teacher in the building. It is just not the same as being around the players within the school day.

Not ever using a TE is just plain stupid. TE's create an extra gap to defend in the run game as well as widen the rush edge in pass protection. They provide good red zone receiving targets as well. Not ever going under center is just playing stupid as well.

I think Manual keeps it close and pulls it out in the 4th quarter. Manual has to keep it close to have a chance. They are not built to come back if down by much of a margin. It is imperative for the Tigers to start fast.

Not much of an identity under Wolford. But then again, he did not come in with a philosophy of how to run a program. Therefore, how can there be an identity?

In that scenario, I think the correct move would be to call timeout, if needed, and challenge my 2nd defense to get a stop. I do not like the idea of putting my first defense back out there in a game that has already been decided in a situation in which they have a better-than-average chance to get scored on. I would rather my first defense not be scored upon on a drive that they did not give up. I say challenge the back-ups.

I disagree. If they bring in the players on a Sunday evening for an hour or two, I have no problem with it. If it were on a Sunday morning, that should not happen. Some coaches bring in their teams in on Saturdays, some on Sundays. I think bringing them in for both would be overkill. They need one day to unwind and have a break from their sport. As far as the homework issue, it is a matter of time management.

As long as they use a consistent set of terminology and don't overload their players with too many plays to execute, then it can certainly work. For example, a team could run the same Outside Zone play from I-formation, under center as well as from a spread shotgun formation with a Zone Read concept. This would present two very distinctly-different formations for the defense with the same blocking for the offensive line.

Beatty has raised the bar at Trinity, no doubt. But Trinity was successful before Beatty, and they will be successful after Beatty. Having said that, I don't see Beatty going anywhere any time soon.

Central Hardin. Physicality wins out over athleticism in this one. Just don't think John can match Central at the line of scrimmage. The weight room will be the tale of the game.

I would think current Trinity OC Andrew Coverdale would be seriously considered for the head coaching job if Beatty were to leave.

I can see it maybe being useful at halftime, but I am not so sure in the middle of game action. Maybe if a school were strictly two-platoon, but still not so sure.

I guarantee that the X QB will be playing. They will line somebody up there. In fact, they played a QB their first two games as well. It just so happened to be the back-up due to the starter being suspended.I

X wins by 21+. Historically, X has won fairly convincingly at home and the games have been close at Central. Plus, Central is down this year. However, it would be unwise to ever count Central out once the playoffs begin. They are battle-tested by playoff time every year.

I would disagree that X took BG to the woodshed last year. Although X won by a convincing margin on the scoreboard in 2015, BG actually out gained the Tigers by almost 300 yards. It was a couple of untimely turnovers by the Purples and a couple of special teams plays that doomed them on the scoreboard.

It really comes down to what the coaching staff at a given school can coach and what the personnel is capable of running. State championships have been won, and will continue to be won, by players executing sound system and by a coaching staff that has enough knowledge of their given system to solve problems that arise from defenses making adjustments. Also, an offense, whatever the system, must have sound answers to situational football: 1st and 10, short yardage, goal line, end-of-half, etc.

Coach J, That is great news for the athletes in the Louisville area. I'm sure you will do a good job with thorough preparation. I thought you were staying on as an assistant to Ballard, though.

All the flexbone did for South Oldham is completely turn the program around. They went from a doormat to being competitive to making playoff runs. It is not the system that wins or loses games. It is the execution within the system and the adjustments that are made within the system. I heard an excellent coach, Dale Mueller, say at a clinic one time that coaches should coach what they know. His example was that his teams did not run the option because not because he did not like it but that he did not know how to coach the option. Therefore, he said, it would have been a disservice to his players to try to run something with which he was not familiar. He said he knew how to coach the Counter really well, so his teams ran the Counter. Very sound advice, I thought.
