It is our job as coaches and fans of this great game to sell it now more than ever. While the game is not perfect, it is safer in its current form than it has ever been. The benefits of the game far outweigh the downfalls.

The root of the issues you mention with that particular district reflects more the issues with Jefferson County Public Schools than it does some statewide problem.

Most of the public school limitations are self-imposed.

"Fairness" is not an issue nor should it ever be. It is about who is successful. Anything which provides rationale as to why success is not happening is excuse making in my opinion. What about the other classes? Was it not fair when Boyle Co. was on their streak of 5 straight titles? Was is not fair when Highlands was on their run? What about Mayfield? is it not fair that they have been so successful? I am more in favor of other programs stepping up their game, including the program of which I am a fan, St. X.

According to Bear Bryant, coaching is "the ability to get players to do what they don't want to do in order to achieve what they want to achieve."

I have not seen Brents play in person, but based on how good Moore is, he must be a stud.

If Moore is #2 on a recruiting list, who the heck is #1?

I doubt they do a search committee. Not usually the way things are done at St. X. My bet is Donhoff and Sangalli will make the decision.

I think going for 2 is appropriate any time the coach that calls it thinks it is. I don't get caught up in all of the "etiquette" of this stuff. Just focus on your own team and let the other guy coach his team. If I can't control whether or not an opponent goes for 2, then I am not going to get worked up about it.

You are correct. Sorry I misread your post. I thought you said 401 passing attempts for St. X and 404 for Trinity.

Where did you get that information? I am not sure it is accurate on the passing stats.

In answer to my own questions: Schematically, the offense does not utilize the players it currently gets effectively. The lack of production in the run game against teams like Trinity and Cincinnati St. X makes it hard to win solely based on the pass. This past year, the Tigers had one of their biggest O-lines in school history, yet they rushed for less than 100 yards in each of the Trinity games. That is not taking advantage of the talent currently available. The 100% spread offense concepts do not give them the best chance to run the ball, although I have no problem with them doing that a times. There is still a time and place, even in current football, for and under-center attack with one or more TE’s mixed in with some spread concepts. In high school, the offensive scheme must be tweaked and adapted to best fit the talents of the players while retaining its core components. That has not happened in recent years. Defensively, the scheme with the Front 7 has been effective. However, the pass coverage concepts have been exploited in recent years more than ever. The lack of mixing up coverages has hurt at times. On special teams, the Tigers have done a continued good job of developing kickers, punters, and long snappers. Special teams units have continued to be solid. Overall, as far as the program and the head coach, I think the school made a mistake by hiring a coach who is not a regular member of the faculty and is not in the hallways of the school building on a regular basis. I think it makes it tough to develop the relationship with the players and the school community that is needed to make the program the best it can be. I do not fault Wolford for this, though. He simply took a job that was offered to him. I just hope that whenever the school decides to hire the next coach, whether that be soon or in the distant future, that they admit their mistake and do not repeat it.

As the completion of Year 5 of the Wolford era has concluded, some questions: 1) Is the program better, worse, or about the same as he found it? 2) Are the systems in place offensively, defensively, and with the overall program to give them the best chance to compete with Trinity moving forward? 3)What should the expectations of the program be moving forward?

I saw both games. Credit goes to the Tigers for not laying down after half, but a 35-14 halftime score does not signify a competitive game to me. And it could have been worse had Trinity not started out so slowly on its first two drives of the game. Kudos to the Tiger players for their efforts. I thought they really battled. To me, though, it was not a competitive game (on the scoreboard) after the first quarter.

Very true. Many excuses have been made. However, both schools have the same opportunities. Any limitations that have been put in place are simply self-imposed. St. X can either find ways to get better or accept what has been the case the last few years with games that are not competitive. Before they can even talk about winning and losing the games, they have to make the games competitive. Regardless of the final score in the finals, the game was not competitive. 35-14 at halftime is not competitive.

I thought that was a huge turning point in the game. X was backed up with not much time in the half. They threw it 3 times and took no time off of the clock. They had to then punt it back to T with good field position. T scored to make it 35-15. Fortunately for X, T did not capitalize and make it worse by scoring on the first drive of the second half. That kept X in the game just a bit.

Maybe X should have thrown more of the I think Bohn was a better all-around QB than Albers, although both are very nice high school QB's. Both are very mobile. Both have average arms. Bohn appeared to scramble to throw while Albers appeared to scramble to run. Albers throws a better deep ball. Bohn is more accurate on the short and touch passes. However, it is hard to compare them because they were asked to different things in their respective offensive systems. They are both winners as far as being tough competitors. I think most high schools were be happy to have either one.

Cov. Cath. had a very good year and should be proud of their championship. However, they would definitely lose to Trinity due to the depth factor and the Rondale Moore factor. No one in the state, including the Colonels, has the speed to match up with him and the creative ways his talent was utilized.

Agree wholeheartedly. It is about finding a way to be competitive and win with the talent you have and will attract. It is not about making excuses as to what you don't have or what the other guy has. St. X battled hard in the championship game. However, as I have stated on this website on many occasions, the offense that St. X runs is not geared to best take advantage of the talent that it consistently attracts. What Glaser did on offense, while not perfect, took better advantage of the talent available and made the games against Trinity much more competitive.
