  1. Trinity is the only Kentucky team that could beat CAL this year.
  2. This is a one-horse race for Mr. Football.
  3. I think it is fair to evaluate Landis after next year. It was going to be a rough year. I was not sure the Tigers would win any of the last 3 games, but I did think they would be more competitive in them.
  4. Good for him. He is a very talented player. I wish the best for him in his seemingly bright future.
  5. Scott Co. runs the Wing-T. Check out their scores. They scored 71 last week. I guess you think it would be higher if they ran a spread.
  6. And they prove that you don't have to run a spread, shotgun offense to be very effective.
  7. The question is whether or not he will stay on the field. He has quite the history of personal fouls.
  8. The problem is that they did NOT run one of these "antiquated" offenses last year under the new coach. The new coach tried to come in and run a spread offense that did not fit the personnel. They basically lost a year of improving just do that they could run something "cool." The number one criteria of an effective offense is that it fits the players at that school. Examples: Army, Navy, Air Force. They would be terrible beyond recognition of they tried to run what everyone else is doing.
  9. Agree, Guru. He needs to sit. Hopefully the kid can get straightened out. He is an incredible talent. I would hate to see it wasted by his inability to control himself. There is a fine line between playing aggressively and playing stupidly. It seems he has crossed that line.
  10. Coach Mattingly keeps Bethlehem rolling.
  11. Anderson Co., and most anyone else for that matter, will have a tough time stopping Scott Co. The path to victory for Anderson Co. will have to be to put up quite a few points. Scott Co. defense has been scored on quite a bit. I don't think a 17-10 type game is likely. It will have to be a score fest. Scott Co. will score regardless. Anderson Co. must do so as well.
  12. Hopefully the Tigers can lean on the running game to drive the ball and score some points. They cannot continue to come up empty-handed. They don't have to score 40 every game, but they have to be able to move the football, play keep-away from their opponents, and put up a fight offensively. The Tigers really need to use this game as a springboard to Manual, which is a very important game for them.
  13. No kidding. The kid is apparently a hot head who needs to learn to control his emotions. Hopefully, for his sake, this pattern of behavior does not negatively affect his recruiting.
  14. Agree 100%, Jim. I am all for physical play, but there is no place for this type of play. It was totally unnecessary. Just tackle the guy.
  15. I agree about some of the predictions. Sometimes weird things happen in these rivalry games. Also, I think next season might be a better indicator of how the new regime at X is settling in.
  16. While I think that was once the case, I am not sure it is now. Attendance has fallen off quite a bit for various reasons. At its highest point, around 2007-2008, the game was drawing close to 40,000. I have no problem with the regular season game being played at U of L as long as it is not cost-prohibitive for the schools. A major part of the athletic budget for each school comes from this game.
  17. JV games are tough to schedule. Sometimes you have to take them when you can. I don't really have a problem with it. JV football is valuable for player development, but it is not always a good predictor of future program success. Many factors go into which players play JV for which teams. It is up to the teams to decide what is best for them. To me, JV football is about getting game reps. I think Freshman football is a better predictor for future program success.
  18. Keys to (upset) victory for the Tigers: Limit explosive plays by Elder Win or tie the turnover battle Have a "make a difference" special teams play First downs and opportunistic scoring by the offense This will be a tall task for the Tigers against a very good Purple Panther squad. My head says Panthers, my heart says Tigers.
  19. Hopefully so. Hopefully they can find a way to build some momentum later in the season to propel them into the offseason.
  20. Tough sledding for the Bruins for sure. My question is what happened between the retirement of Mattingly until now? Was it Stockdale? Was it the coup d'etat to get rid of Stockdale? Was it parents? Was it general apathy for football? Central Hardin may not ever be perennial contenders for a state title, but they should be competitive in games. Have winning seasons. Win a few playoff games here and there. I think those are reasonable expectations.
  21. Pikeville late 80's were pretty darn good.
  22. North by how ever many they want to.
  23. Congrats to Coach Reed and the Colonels for another victory.
  24. GREAT early-season matchup. Kuddos to both teams for scheduling it. Manual, here is your chance to make a statement.
