Joe Gamsky Is North Oldham's New Football HC

What kind of system will he run? Is he an offensive or defensive coach?

Don't know him but know the situation but I am going to go out on a limb and say he will be spread. That is what the parents want!

Was North Oldham hybrid wing-t before?

He won't be running the South Oldham stuff. I would imagine, shotgun spread, and 30 stack defense. Schemes that he was involved in in college and high school. Flexbone is not perceived as modern or sexy...

How do you sell hiring a D-line coach and weightroom guy to your parents if the reason you fired your previous coach is that he didn't throw the ball enough? This seems bizarre.

Well that is a very interesting thought. However having read his background you can see that he played for Murray so I am sure that his offensive philosophy will be similar to what they ran at Murray.

Coach Gamski is a stand up guy, extremely excited for him and the future of that program. You sell Coach G to the parents by telling them the truth, he's head of the program for the right reasons: develop character and the wins will follow.

I'm pretty sure that's what the previous coach was doing and he was run out by the parents.

When the school allows the parents to run things, that school will never be anything other than a joke.

This is exactly right. Just look at the results over the years prior to this one. Hard to argue the old coach wasn't one of the best in KY.

Billy Martin is a great coach and one play away from playing for state last year. Good luck to this new guy it's just a shame North ran a great coach out of town

All the flexbone did for South Oldham is completely turn the program around. They went from a doormat to being competitive to making playoff runs. It is not the system that wins or loses games. It is the execution within the system and the adjustments that are made within the system. I heard an excellent coach, Dale Mueller, say at a clinic one time that coaches should coach what they know. His example was that his teams did not run the option because not because he did not like it but that he did not know how to coach the option. Therefore, he said, it would have been a disservice to his players to try to run something with which he was not familiar. He said he knew how to coach the Counter really well, so his teams ran the Counter. Very sound advice, I thought.

I agree with Bruin for the most part. You have to establish your program and processes as a head coach and get buy in from all aspects of the program starting with the players and then working out to the alumni and parents. You also have to understand your personnel and the situation you are coming into to adapt to what you have available as you make the transition. While not "sexy" the variations of the read option either through the flex or pistol or even the old wishbone is a very good option if you are smaller and quicker than you are big. Look at Georgia Tech and the Academies and the success they have had and Oregon was a run option first with a throw read. I am sure Joe will make the best of the situation if he is given the chance to do things the way he sees fit.
