  1. So who is the dark horse in this good ole fashion off season derby? All of the before mentioned candidates have already been disputed by other readers (contributors) for one reason another (legitimate or not). Who is the coach that comes knockin' on Boyle County's door and administration and boosters are surprised and excited? A guy who may have just left the state within a year or two? Someone noone thought would leave but is maybe on the back 9 of his career? An up and coming first time head man with ties to the community (or absolutely none at all which makes him attractive)? Anyone have any?
  2. Hearing a decent amount of alumni interaction with this potential hire. New personnel in alumni association, athletics, and administration. Rumor has it they want young energy and are willing to help people move. What's the word on the street?
  3. Just a long shot... now that this has been discussed as a national job opening, does Frank Lenti, who was just on the wrong side of a debacle at the storied Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, squeeze into this picture?
  4. Moving relatively slow for a fairly high end job. Any movement? Names? Have they set approximate dates?
  5. Word from a source inside the building is Preston King has stepped in as Head Football Coach. Anyone Confirm?
  6. What hasn't been noted, and I just thought I'd put my two bits in, has to do with more than just pumping the iron. Weight room and off season conditioning/training teaches discipline and is where a lot of team chemistry is built. Teams with a Personal Best bell, whistle command, accountability teams, matt drills, things of this nature tend to get the most out of their student athletes in the fall as well as in the weight room during the off season. For those of us who aren't weight room gurus, a great start up point that you can often split funds with in an academic area is getting certified in the Bigger Faster Stronger program. It's a great starting point for young coaches with little to no weight room experience or studying.
  7. One of the best in the business in regards to younger defensive mind coaches. Crazy work ethic, extreme amount of respect, and has the ability to relate to kids of all different backgrounds. I expect big things out of Ballard the coming three seasons.
  8. Per PRP Athletics Twitter page, PRP Head Coach Jason Hiser has resigned. Twitter Best of luck to all your future endeavors coach.
  9. One day, every other week, during tackling circuit the team I coach practices tackling with no helmets or shoulder pads. Still plenty of force, pop, and physicality but teaching kids how to tackle without using their equipment as a weapon. Other then that we are shells Monday/Tuesday, 3/4 practice full pads Tuesday (other 1/4 with nothing for tackling circuit), then just helmets for walk through Thursdays and game simulation. Our team tackles just fine and we've only had one concussion the entire season and it happened on a punt return crackback. Still part of the game, just hard to coach a crackback feeling.
  10. I know that BC hasn't played the most competitive schedule thus far, but it's hard to argue that BC Defense isn't the best in the county not allowing an offensive touchdown in regular season or allowing either of those offenses they played to go over 100 yards in a game. Has North Bullitt's offense been explosive enough to be better than BC defense? Not saying I don't agree with NB, BC, BE in that order... but I think that Defense is only going to get stronger as the year moves forward.
  11. I see a lot of posts about kids not being ready or willing to put in the work... but how many schools really offer a student athlete recruiting forum? As a teacher/coach I try and best prepare my students for the work load that comes after high school football. Preaching about attendance and effort and how it relates to life after graduation is one thing, having an outside source come in and offer to answer questions from the students and talk percentages of students who do make it, do drop out, get playing time, etc. may put things in perspective for some students. I've tried to get something like this approved before by athletic directors but they won't take the bait. Not sure why
  12. Two days into the work week and still nothing posted but has been off KHSAA for approximately a week and we all know that the interviews are done? What's the hold up? Anyone on the inside have info?
  13. @Coltfan Interviews going on at least through tomorrow afternoon. Straight from a candidates mouth. Would be real rough to run and close that when interviews are still to be had.
  14. Coach Gamski is a stand up guy, extremely excited for him and the future of that program. You sell Coach G to the parents by telling them the truth, he's head of the program for the right reasons: develop character and the wins will follow.
  15. Oooooo hot off the press this morning, rumor has it Dr. J Beavers will not be returning to BC as principal, per multiple reliable sources. The rumor continues with saying it came down from the board. Will BCPS B.of.Edu. have to reinstate Lawson? Should they? Thoughts, comments, concerns... You couldn't write a movie script like this. This is intense.
  16. Atta boy Lawdog. Stick to your guns, do what's right for the family.
  17. Just found out, Bullitt Central is going to open up. Not sure on the whole back story to it. But I do know that there has been a lot of turnover in the building from an administrative stand point. Anyone know all the details as to why? Did Lawson leave on his own terms? Did he want out? Did the administration push him out? Who is up next? Someone on staff currently? Former grad? Good ole boy of the principal? Either way... good luck.
  18. I coach in a state that allows Spring Games now. Personally, I think it's a difficult task to ask your boys to get all amped up and have the adrenaline you want them to have for a "1 game season." A lot of high school athletes aren't mature enough to realize it's a scrimmage to see their game speed. If I were hired before the beginning of January, I would have requested my AD to not have the Spring game and have the second scrimmage. Allows more opportunity after a full summer to get some JV/V guys some game time and play with the Starting 11 a little more so other guys can find some air on the sideline. Just coming at it from a different perspective. A guy who never had a Spring season growing up, Started coaching in Kentucky with 10 Spring practices and an intersquad scrimmage/fundraiser, and now HC in a state with an entire Spring Season with 20 practices and a scrimmage against another program.
  19. Hate to throw a wrench in the mix but per a very reliable source I heard Coach W interviewed for Eminence job yesterday. Any second source to make sure I'm not blowing this out of the water? Would be a low blow to both hiring committees.
  20. I did hear that he interviewed for the job yesterday. Not sure why he would leave an AD position for Head Coaching Position at Owen, then try and get another job in a different district? Any insight? 2 HC jobs within a few months? Has to turn some people off.
  21. Any updates from around town? I know people must be talking about this one. Would love any insight or opinions, and to see it back at the top.
  22. In high school, realistically, what coach doesn't run the "get the ball to the play maker," offense. The HC at BC adjusts offensively ...because that's what coaches do. They adjust to the times and personnel. Again, X and O probably didn't need to come up in the interview process because what matters is the development of a program, not how the offense or defense works. If those young men have failed to learn certain responsibilities and expectations such as respect and honor, who would care about the offense then? Not a news anchor, parent, or principal. What they need to do, in my opinion, is to never settle. I truly believe BC needs to play with more of a chip on their shoulder instead of the "poor me" mentality that the surrounding area has burned into the mentality of those young men. The athletic ability, size, numbers, and even facilities are enough for this program to be an effective small 5a program. It just needs a slight adjustment in culture and that started last year under Lawson and his assistants. It was evident in the passion the team played with on Fridays. But what do I know, I don't bring up X and O during interviews with my future bosses.
  23. My fault, typo, you should always want to work for someone who supports you.
