  1. I will say this with regard to top players, first, Derek Smith would be the best player from HHS and in fact would be my overall #1 and I would second the well-stated analysis regarding Elija Pittman and lastly I would add Greg McGraw to the list of top players from HHS with only a continuing back problem from him being in this discussion. For those lucky enough to see him in a classic battle with Arrez Henderson their senior year would agree.
  2. Just a hunch but before the draw I'm guessing HHS v. ND in semi(same side even though IMO they are two best teams) and Conner v. NCC in other. Winner of HHS/ND is regional champ beating Conner in final. .... Good luck in draw & should be a great tourney!
  3. Appreciate the details as always but want to add a shout to Brooke Dill for a productive day at the plate from the bottom of the order gonna need it going forward !
  4. Nice pics Allen, as usual! Notice the text book positioning of the catcher on both plays at the plate, great fundamentals from both teams. This game, like most between good teams, comes down to execution. ND made several difficult catches and had the two out/two strike flare into RF that sent the runners home. The Birds couldn't get the hit needed to plate the runner from third in multiple innings. Either team , along with a couple of others can take the region. They have the pitching, fundamentals...... Just need to execute plays, gonna be a great regional tourney!
  5. Hard to argue the positioning in this poll but I do believe the region is pretty open. HHS continues to drop in poll despite a 9 game win streak but have not played many teams ahead of them. That changes starting today. NCC made a nice climb w similar streak until last night. Boone only has losses to Conner among top region opponents Still some good match ups this week that will help set the order.....
  6. Congrats to HC....... Any details from anyone in attendance? Gets tougher from here, good luck, bring it home!
  7. First, congratulations to Newport for being great hosts for District 36, I have witnessed all the games this week and they have been fantastic! On to this game, Overall I felt NCC played with more intensity than HHS and showed a lot of heart coming in as a decided underdog. Thought their Defensive pressure was effective w/ TO 16-6 in their favor. Ladybirds looked tentative offensively and almost appeared to be playing not to lose at times. Ware played nice D on Graves all night, thought HHS should/could have exploited inside to Leigh all night. Highlands will need to up their game next week and if NCC shoots better they could upset someone.... Good luck to both!
  8. He has been in the Pendleton Co district for a long time..........Way to go D, glad you are back to hoops!
  9. If it makes you feel any better, I think we all are.....again:ohbrother:
  10. !6 Srs is a lot BUT.......it beats what Baoni inherited when he started. The days of 4 Srs. are over. This looks like the roster of teams that compete for championships, lots of JRs & Srs !
  11. I saw the Mercy/NCC score and was intrigued by how good Mercy must be! I am impressed, particularly in light of how well NCC was playing. I do however, agree that it is a stretch to assume that no 9th region team could beat them. For example, NCC lost to HHS by a similar score this season and they are ranked third in the region. Regardless, Mercy is obviously legit ! As far as the Holmes ranking v HC/Highlands, I agree with the point that they have not faltered this season regardless of circumstance (injury, etc) and so I would rank them higher than the other two. HC has played really well down the stretch (including the All A) so they are positioned correctly. Highlands has lost only three (by a total of six points) but losses include Holmes & HC so I think their position (near Mercy) is probably also correct. For as much discussion about how bad polls tend to be........this one appears to be very solid!
  12. I think RCC should reach out to one of those east side Cincy schools given its location.....Turpin, even Amelia?
  13. The obvious flaw here being that Villa is totally disrespected in light of their margin of victory over a ranked Heritage team ......... :ohbrother:
  14. We are a little off topic here but Boone Co. does make significant local tax contribution just to stay ahead of their 'school facility' needs (much less athletic). They are a high growth district and have numerous unmet needs with regard to facilities despite adding taxes as permitted to address growth issues. Let's gain some perspective here; they have added two new high schools (large enrollment no less) in their district over the last 20 yrs. Think about that......doubling their previous existence! This has a huge impact on their financial outlook and their enrollment patterns. Let's face it Boone Co. HS is not the same make-up as it was prior to 93-94 (Ryle). I believe their BOE is very committed to providing everything to their students but sound fiscal responsibility lends to education needs first. This all leads to a diffferent dynamic all the way to their athletic facilities, football program/coach, etc. Once a coveted, highly regarded positon & program, now.......not so much! Whoever grabs the helm, there will be hills to climb for success. Another thought (maybe thread).........what would open enrollment do if it were instituted in Boone Co. would it produce a true 6A powerhouse?
  15. I saw NCC play earlier in the year and they seem to have few options for scoring and I noted that only five players scored in this game. I am curious if that is a season - long problem (finding additional scoring contributors) and will this limit their sucess in post-season? They have performed well late in the season and could be a sleeper if they find depth.
  16. This is a fine group and coached well and that showed in their play on the court. They lost to HHS in the tourney but had previously beaten HHS home & away. Congratulations on a great season by any measure!
  17. Not many details needed for this one-sided affair, the Birds put on a clinic in shooting and defense building a 35-7 halftime score....game over. Welcome back McKenzie !
  18. This is a good hire for CCH but let's not forget that Eviston inherited alot of talent in his short tenure at NCC, so let's not annoint him as the second coming of a Lynn Ray or Dale Mueller just yet ! It will be interesting in the coming years to see an Eviston/Weinrich- lead rivalry unfold however and......don't kid yourself, CCH/HHS is still a rivalry and will remain so as long as they are in the same class. Bottom line, these ain't your daddy's teams anymore and I believe there will be more balance between these programs over the next ten years (I hope there is); just not sure you will be able to attribute it to who is coaching.
  19. Congratulations to Lydia......she is so fun to watch because she is so versatile and is a complete player. She is a tough defender (usually against bigger girls), handles ball well (often point against press), great rebounder (see avg per game) and has good shooting range (most points are from jump shot). She is getting better each game........playing her best right now Best part is she is a great kid from a super family........G'Town is gettin a good one!
  20. Those are less opinions and more of observations about how the game unfolded, not trying to be the "Captain", just following the thread title and thought I might add some detail to what happened during the game. Thought it was germane to the discussion more so than my physical stature or resume. Sorry to offend.

Both teams played without starters and coupled with foul issues, they played with new rotations. Obviously both teams answered the call to their respective benches. I thought Zoie Barth played really well having to log some serious minutes. I think a major turning point was when Graves fouled out with just under three minutes left. She is key to their press break and you could see the shift/struggle to advance the ball. Pretty physical game especially early, HHS won the free throw portion of the game. Thought Holmes did nice job on O boards/ second shots. Great atmosphere and game to witness. Tubbs & Leigh on the floor would make the matchup even more intriguing next time! Hope to see them play again.
  22. Shame on you for belittling the importance of this event to these girls. I don't care if they are 7 th graders or so called "second tier" Frosh. They bust their tails all season to improve/compete. As far as the game, sounds like in addition to HHS freshman team playing a great game, SK was obviously out coached. Looks like HHS is doing it the right way.......
