  1. There ya have it......... Play for second place anyone?
  2. Brennah Dutcher hit two shots in this game and may be the best clutch hitter in the region ...... What ? about 50 RBI ....... Not sure what anyone else was thinking but I'll give her some " honorable-mention"
  3. I'm pretty sure Dixie & Covcath were ranked #1 and 2 coming in (and most of the season) so I believe that would make Conner and HHS as upset winners......
  4. Ok, I'll weigh in....I'm not scared! I will say at least one and maybe both games will be an upset. I think Conner & Highlands are both playing fearless and confident and are capable of winning the region. I believe HHS has enough pitching to make it through, are battle tested with their schedule and although noted their "subpar" record against regional participants .....they played them all close. Conner is playing well with some big wins down the stretch and may be the "hottest" team. All the teams left are district winners so all are on top of their game........but I like upsets from here out.
  5. Team effort here....... From impressive individual performances ( Ethan Shuley, Alex Venneman) to workhorse effort (J-M Griffith) to the inspiration of a great competitor/leader(Ryan Greene) to putting in the work & overcoming adversity..... A great accomplishment for everyone on this team- Track carries a lot of individual achievement but relays and meet victories bring the group together. What they accomplished individually and collectively can never be taken from them, a victory lap while hoisting a state championship trophy is why you started the journey on foot. Congratulations gentleman, well done!
  6. Try three state records for the young lady from Collins...... Impressive indeed, congratulations!
  7. Although he is retired, I always loved Gene Hackman in any movie he did.........more current, although not always great, Vince Vaughn makes me laugh, love his humor.
  8. I say it's a shame for Bailey Spencer to miss this time of the season.....the only saving grace is she is an underclassman. For the Birds, despite her obvious pitching contribution, they are streaking/peaking at the right time with some steller Def. and hitting throughout the line-up and this will have to carry the day for them to win. Although Highlands was poised to make a statement this year, I think they will settle for a W any way they can get it. Season results and streaks are out the window for these two teams now. If HHS is able to continue their outstanding hitting and get great D, they will win. NCC has a chance with Myers on the mound but will have to capitalize by stringing legitimate hits together off the young pitcher. Regardless, this has the makings of a great game........
  9. And yes, it is true the locals came calling for opportunity to challenge the Bluebirds in the next couple of years, including (drum roll please) SK. Keep in mind, that it all remains to be finalized. The good news for HHS fans is that lengthy/costly travel may be avoided, local rivalries can be established and UK#1 will weigh in at about 300lbs in five years from eating crow ....lol. (JK people, it's all in fun!) Seriously, all will be right in the world order with some local teams on the HHS schedule and elimination of some of the talk about ducking opponents, undefeated seasons with asterisk, one hit wonders.......(BTW, those are fill in the blanks)(* answers SK/SK/SK) Sorry again, it was just too easy. This time I am serious, it will be great for debate but better for the fans to once again have some local flavor on the HHS schedule to go along with the other opponents like Scott Co & St X. I think it will be a better balance of schedule and provide good challenges for all the teams. Looking forward to opportunity to see more of the local teams competing with each other.
  10. Can we add Saving Private Ryan to that list..... He had a run of about 6-8 yrs where he was the class of Hollywood.....
  11. I love the Huggins connection.....I have often mentioned that Bolden's style reminded me of Nick Van Exel ! It isn't so much that he is a lefty, skinny, super -quick, etc. but really his release point on his shot. Not unlike Van Exel, he often releases above his head (opposed to forward in typical follow -thru) thus avoiding blocked shots........ I would love to see video of their shooting style together. Regardless, best of luck to James, may you prosper under the tutelage of Mr. Huggins and have a career equal to Mr. Van Exel !:lol2:
  12. Caught some of the action....... Watched HHS mount a nice comeback against the favorite losing 6-5 with tying run on second. Impressive group from PA. Shortstop is really good, best I've seen in awhile, very complete player. HHS w/ injury and absences started to show some depth . Future looks good for Birds.
  13. I agree with most of the observations on here, certainly Coach Richey's assessment that they went in expecting to be fouled is accurate. Too many of their missed layups were suprisingly uncontested (although some uncalled fouls occurred as well) regardless, you have to finish and they didn't finish many in the first half. One point that was not mentioned was the absence of Leigh & Combs due to fouls, particularly in the first half. Leigh had 3 in the half (didn't start 2nd half) and Combs 2 and both sat for a significant portion of time when the lead grew to ten in the second quarter. They missed Combs high energy as she continued with foul trouble throughout the game. Also, NCC did a great job taking Adler out of the game as she was a non-factor considering she can light it up from outside. I guessing she only attempted a couple of shots all night....great D on her ! Neace bombs were deadly (as witnessed by reaction of HHS coaches) both shots timely and real momentum boost. I also agree that Ware was POG for NCC.
  14. Thank you sir...! Any word on the 6th grade girls final?
  15. So we have: 6th Girls - Tue @5:00. ? V ? 6th Boys - Wed@5:00 Conner v St Pius 7th Girls - Tue @6:00 Highlands v Conner 7th Boys - Wed@6:00. Gray v Woodland 8th Girls - Tue @7:00 Ockerman v IHM 8th Boys - Wed@7:00. ? V ? Can someone fill the blanks......
  16. The NKMS regular season schedule is play everyone once (4 districts of 5 teams =19 regularly scheduled games.). District tourney is 2or3 games and Regionals is 3 games (maximum if you advance in both is 6 games. Total NKMS = 25 Throw in a tourney at Christmas is 3 to 5... Weather is minus 2-3 puts you in the 20-27 range for most. Catholic schools......... Whole 'nuther ball game folks!
  17. Some District 4 results: 8th Boys Sharp over Highlands in OT 8th Girls- Highlands over CampCo 6th Boys - Highlands over Newport 6th Girls - Highlands over CampCo in 2OT 7th Boys& Girl finals on Monday match CampCo v Highlands
  18. I'll follow Q11 lead and add the 8th Grade girls, perhaps someone else can add other tourneys? District 1 @RA Jones Grant Co/RA Jones winner v Ockerman Gray v Camp Ernst District 2 @Conner Ludlow/Tichenor winner v Conner IHM v St Pius District 3 @Twenhofel Beechwood/Turkeyfoot winnew v Twenhofel Summit View v Woodland District 4 @ Sharp Holmes/Sharp winner v Highlands Campbell Co v Newport District 1 is the most competitive with Ockerman,Gray and Camp Ernst all capable of advancing. I feel a favorite in the whole region is Ockerman with outstanding guard play and home court for regional tourney, they will advance and take Gray with them. District 2 is loaded also with Conner, IHM and St Pius all having strong seasons. Conner will enjoy home court and look for opportunity to avenge a two point setback to IHM if they can get a rematch. Conner is a tough determined team and if they can get inside game/scoring, they could win this district. IHM is more balanced and has better size and should continue their fine season into regional. District 3 is a two horse race with the clear favorite being Twenhofel. Woodland lost a lot of players this season and will advance but these two will definitely represent this district District 4 features the surging HHS squad that has an impressive 14 game win streak and a 6-0 record against the other District winners. Don't call them the favorite but they are a legit contender for the Regional title. Look for a pesky Newport squad to advance as well. Regionals will be super competitive with some tough first round match-ups. Ockerman at home will be tough to beat but in the end with a balanced group, a district runner-up could wear this crown!
  19. Really? With all the weather cancellations, etc they have played 35 games...... Just curious where they are getting all their games?
  20. I say "let'em play" and I know Kevin has his boys trying to play three at HHS......amen brother!
  21. As far as being unorganized.....been through it and I couldn't agree more! It seems to me that this would be easy to structure under your district format. Play your JV District games that occur before your varsity games to determine the #1 & #2 seeds from your district and seed a tournament of winner/runner-up format for a "regional winner" (teams outside 9th region could just be an additional "district") Just think how much more your district rivalry V/JV games would mean if the JV game determined standings for JV tourney! If the timing of your district games occurs too late in the season, just schedule independent games (like they do for the tournament now) to create district winner/runnerup regional participants. Get one venue to play quarter-finals thru finals games. This process would: a) allow all teams to participate; b) allow ease of scheduling; c) provide a true regional format; d) give a known standard for each year; and lastly....... create a forum where the kids can be recognized for their efforts/accomplishment (which, as we all know, is lacking for kids toiling at the JV level!) Or you could keep doing it the current way and no one can follow it and no one will care what happens.....what do I know anyway! :idunno:
  22. HHS Girls 8th grade lost to IHM in their second game (only two losses on the season) and have come a long way including three wins over a tough Conner squad that recently lost to IHM by 2 pts. IHM has had a great season but there are several teams that could challenge this title......
  23. Like the proverbial Pig in a Blanket........"Guess I walked into that one " LOL
  24. Highlands 8th Grade girls will take on Conner in the finals of the Dayton Tournament coming out of the winners bracket sporting a 13-2 record on the season...... Good luck on Sat. !
  25. With no intention of diminishing the achievements of any of these kids......... I did witness the state finals games and don't recall seeing the "all-star" team that must have been Graves Co. ? :idunno: Clearly there is a problem here........if it is obviously this flawed, please don't bother! All these kids (mentioned&omitted) deserve better.........
