  1. You were ahead of me on this one, but I was thinking it was the same night as the Nixon-Kennedy debate so everyone was at home in front of the TV? Or maybe mom & pop Deters were so excited they conceived a son that evening? or the US landed on the moon? or was it all just part of the twilight zone:isurrender:
  2. I think the rankings are fine....for now. I believe at some point, Covcath will be slotted No. 1.........just curious, if the Birds struggle against Bryan Station and Covcath shows well against Big Mo, does anyone change their mind?
  3. I like the Blue colonels in this one, in fact I expect them to make a statement about their standing in NKY this week. I believe they have the talent to be the top team in the area by year's end. There I said it !
  4. I don't think I'm too far out on a limb here......HHS will score twice in one quarter on Friday. Don't think two scrimmages are a basis for the success of their offensive potential.
  5. I agree that scheduling is somewhat of an evolution. Don't kid yourself, coaches look at other rosters and say "thanks, but not this year coach" when offered to schedule series with other schools. Conversely, teams can struggle to get worthy opponents also and are stuck with less than competitive match-ups, but remember HC won a state championship a couple of years ago(when this game was likely scheduled) but are of far different talent now. I am glad to see SK getting some schedule changes that may include HHS & Covcath next season. Maybe their coach stop saying "no thanks" when he did a roster check. :idunno: They will both be 5A next year so maybe that 4A comment would work; but be careful what you ask for.......:sssh: SK has made nice strides as a program and they are trying to build on that..........they could make a case for being the premier 6A team in NKY if they take care of business in the next couple of years. Let's stick with what we know til then.
  6. I think this game will reveal several things for both squads. CC has improved under Lickert and it will show with his D playing strong but still overmatched in the end. Hoge's ability to run the ball will allow other parts of their running game to get on track, coupled with the long strike to Venneman will create to much field to cover. Another aspect of the game to watch is special teams. Kicking deep/not getting deep will result in HHS getting nice returns.....again Venneman (and Kendall) will be factors here. Keys for CC will be line play and the QB keeping options to run/pass. (they will miss him at LB when Hoge is running). In the end Birds score on special teams and too many weapons on O will bring 35-14 final
  7. Cris Collinsworth, of Wide Receiver/Announcer fame, holds/shares the record for longest touchdown pass (99 Yds) in college football history achieved in his freshman year at Florida. Steve Spurrier, QB coach at Florida, encouraged Collinsworth to move to WR the next season......go figure
  8. So sorry to see all those educational dollars go to waste.....It's not rocket science but "at that pace, Trinity would have won 93-0" I'm pretty sure HHS scored 6 ...... Is this the "new math" I hear about:idunno: It would be refreshing to see some analysis of the game instead of attacks of other's posts. Go to a game, form an opinion, then post, you might gain some respect.
  9. Maybe it was just easier to serve him because he can easily be seen "shoutin from the rooftops":idunno:
  10. I think its a fair question and what's wrong with evaluation and speculation (I know you all watch ESPN,lol) Anyone can answer the question after the season:idunno: Regarding D1 talent.........size and potential, they will come calling on Jack Telek if he plays well early.........
  11. Ok, I'll take first shot at this............... First, they have fewer wins than any of the others (lol) but seriously, that will likely continue. The schedule v. talent will be a challenge for this team. Therefore, their success will be measured greatly in whether they are improving (beyond W/L) as the season progresses. More than teams of recent history, this team will have to overcome losses, regrouping, maintaining focus in a different way than those teams because it will likely happen more often. IF they take what's in them (talent), show heart/internal fortitude, and stay healthy, I believe they could realize the same sucesses as previous teams.....but it won't come as easily. There is plenty of individual talent and one could argue that some positions are just as strong but overall, probably a little less than recent teams and it will show the most in their depth. Overcoming injuries will be a big challenge.
  12. Ricardo is a fantastic young man and the Holmes kids will flourish under his guidance at that level. I wish him all the best with his position in the district and his coaching.....he will do equally well at both. It is awesome to see him come this far but I'm not suprised for a minute......quality individual in every way.
  13. Shelby, congratulations....well deserved and very much earned! This young lady has a great approach to learning and developing her softball skills and is focused on what her sport means to her in developing her future. Mature, smart, driven and deserving........one awesome young lady, we are all very proud. Keep smilin girl, it's contagious !
  14. I think rankings are what they are.......an opinion. To get in step I will say that this year is more interesting than recent years with the obvious domination by Highlands culminating with the great upset by Collins, the field has leveled out. The cool thing is we will see a number of these teams play in the regular season and provide a gauge of where they stack up before playoffs. I do believe HHS and CovCath are probably 1&2 initially but also believe CCH could win the district and change the conversation to HHS v JC in playoffs first. I think Boyle is next in the mix with Smith notching them up a little (certainly agree with Sweeper that Smith will have their goal of being #1 !) LexCath is interesting in that many feel they lost too much but with a great QB and receiving corp they could suprise everyone. I think this year does bring the same in some regards though.....NKY or Central Ky teams then Mtn, then way back West w/exception of Collins who will play in the finals again this year. The rest will battle it out to get there.........
  15. Can he play first base or LF ..............or better yet, can he hit?
  16. I predict that one NKY team (Hint: 6A) will be the best team with the best linebacker, best WR, best QB, best D linemen (plural), best coach..........hey, just tryin to get a head start here:lol2:
  17. I'll take quotes/scenes from Breakfast Club, Tombstone, and Few Good Men all day ...........
  18. Probably Johnson Elementary, great staff there lead by Mrs. Alford!
  19. Sorry, I am not buying any defense of this activity in any way. We are talking about corruption in HS athletics .........and the argument has gone from everyone else is doing it, to grades/tests don't matter you can get to law school anyway, to it's OK to use taxes/funds for education to supplement a schools basketball team? Enough already.............
  20. Nope.......new year, same kids (you might have to think about it for a minute)
  21. I am familiar with this league and somewhat with the situation that initiated this thread and think maybe this thing has gone off track a little. The circumstance described was puzzling for certain (a. the inning never started; b. bring teams to play 1/2 inning at 5:30 then don't play again until 9:00?) Regardless, it's always easy to criticize from the sideline..... Perhaps a better approach may be bolstering what already exists. I don't think you are going to have enough teams (competition) if you are closing ranks a trying to do a competing league. There is not enough participation to make that work. I believe if the intent is to provide opportunity and to build interest, a collaboration would potentially balance the decision-making/makers and expand the league to incorporate more locations and balance to the league. I am certain the venue choice is part of the issue and the lack of inclusiveness is another issue. Bring the parties together and make a true county-wide program with representation from different areas and CampCo. will begin to develop players/interest early and all the HS teams will benefit later.
  22. Urlage and lightning quick/fast Nick Kendall will give HHS a couple of nice RBs. I believe you will see more of a run game with two backs, different styles added with a multi-threat at QB (Hoge) will make their running game solid. How the ball is distributed may give one a "top-five" opportunity but I think they will be happier if this trio shares the load rushing.
  23. Love the story......... Seems like a good kid with great perspective. Looks like Arroyo on the the mound....... Good luck at state!
