Who will BE the next Boone County coach? Messed up my first thread

Whoever applies for the Boone County job needs to know it is going to be a long, hard road with limited talent the next few years, bad facilities, and only mediocre support.

Crazy to look back on the 80s and early 90s and compare to now. Hopefully Boone can get back to being a threat to win the district.

I think it needs to be somebody young and somebody who has ties to the area, and ties to BC Pee Wee. This is job you have to be able to commit 8-10 years to turn around. The prospects for short term success are dim. A Boone Alumni perhaps?

Not sure dim is the right word if it is going to take 8 to 10 years.:popcorn:

How bout Dave Wirth. Dave Brossart proved there's life after a "power" program. He has done just fine. I'm sure Dave Wirth would do the same. Realistically, if he was given 4-5 years, could he turn the program around? Is there enough talent in the District? And what would be acceptable at Boone these days?

And how bout someone like Kevin Siple?

Do you think that the fact that Griffith was given such a short time to turn around a program which has hit bottom hurts the chances of Boone getting a quality coach? Makes me wonder who is willing to take on that challenge when the appearance is that you won't be given time to build the program. This is not a one season turn around situation.

I think it was Griffith's choice to leave and yes I think it will be very difficult to get a quality coach.

 

And with a couple of the names mentioned, some of you are a lost ball in tall weeds if you think they have an ice cubes chance of being successful as a varsity head coach.

In depends what you are going for. Quick fix is not the answer here. If you want to go after a name with some experience Wirth. I would love for programs to step outside of the box and consider rebuilding it slowly with a young guy. Maybe a coordinator that can encourage kids and have them gravitate towards the program. Sprinkle in a few assistants that are familiar with how great the program used to be. It will require patience but it can be done. Parents, and fans are going to have to be realistic for the next few seasons.

Lex that would be good but PARENTS AND FANS will never be patient.
