In depends what you are going for. Quick fix is not the answer here. If you want to go after a name with some experience Wirth. I would love for programs to step outside of the box and consider rebuilding it slowly with a young guy. Maybe a coordinator that can encourage kids and have them gravitate towards the program. Sprinkle in a few assistants that are familiar with how great the program used to be. It will require patience but it can be done. Parents, and fans are going to have to be realistic for the next few seasons.

Wow. I am really surprised. I did some research because I keep reading about how tough a situation Boone County is. I guess my memory is tainted because of all the success Boone County had under Hauck. Plus, I see success in so many other sports programs at Boone that it made me think there was plenty of talent there. Anyway, I looked at Boone County's records since 1998 - 17 seasons. Here are facts that really surprised me:

 

- In 11 of the past 17 seasons, Boone County failed to win one playoff game.

 

- Boone County lost 4 or more games in every one of the past 17 seasons.

 

- Five of the past 6 seasons, Boone won 4 or fewer games.

 

- In the past 3 seasons under two different coaches, they have won 2 games.

 

I was thinking of Boone Co. as a job an experienced, winning head coach would be interested in. I was wrong. This is a tough job and I think Boone County might have a really difficult time finding the coach they think they should get. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe there are coaches that still look at Boone Co. as a desirable job. But looking at that record and considering the competition they will be facing in 6A, I see tough times ahead. Any new coach that puts up winning records and gets playoff wins is going to be doing a heck of a job.

I was referring to hiring a coordinator and keeping a few assistants.

I say Bryson Warner or Kyle Neiderman (spelling) former assistant; Might need to bring back some of that old blood to get it back to that prominence

Kyle is now a principal, so I do not think he will return to coaching.

I think a realistic approach and assessment has to be taken when it comes to parting ways with coaches. You could have Nick Saban up there but it sure does help when you have studs on both sides of the football. When I saw the Boone County team in the 90's compared to now it's not even close. I agree with the bringing in old blood, but it was only 24 months ago that everyone cried they needed new blood, rather than going with another Hauck Disciple.

 

Thompson gave a valiant effort during his tenure, probably stayed a year too long and never had an Evan O'hara type kicker early on. It cost him 7-10 games plus during the Chalfant era.

 

Eric Turner would be the guy that I go after, however I think he has a better chance to win at Lloyd than Boone in the next few years.

I can see Bryson Warner applying. I can also see Mike Woolf also. Maybe a package deal with Woolf as the Head Coach. I haven't spoke to him but wonder where his head is not that Ryan is done at Ryle? I hope he sticks around and have not heard otherwise. The only thing is that I know he has applied for other jobs before. I think with those two you immediately get a product on the field that will play hard and fight for wins. Just saying that because I know those two. I don't know much about the other names thrown around. Can't say who would be a better fit.

And by the way won all those state titles with 3 or 4 NFL guys. And in Ky if you have 1 D1 guy you should win 7 games much less NFL guys!

The MC deal was a year later but no matter how you cut the pie I would have taken my chances with one of the all time great KY high school football coaches.

What does Boone County's schedule look like for the next cycle?

Lex that would be good but PARENTS AND FANS will never be patient.

 

Don't expect the parents to be patient. How can they be? Their son only has 4 years to play HS ball. If he's already a Sophomore that means he only has two years left to play. That's not conducive to patience. Now, if you have six sons and the oldest is the sophomore, maybe you can be patient.

^ I know the parents are anything but patient after the last three years. Some of them approached me near the end of the season and I tapped out. Boone County is a disaster right now. It will take a very special coach to rebuild the program. At least I understand Coach Griff got the program out of debt.
