Open Job: Beechwood
I heard someone saw EE buying a Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cone at Graeters in Ft. Mitchell . . . Just sayin ' gosh.

Open Job: Beechwood
Fiction. There are absolutely zero rules from KHSAA about job postings or interviews or any other aspects of hiring coaches. Those rules are set by Board policies for each individual school district and typically in most school districts, extra-curricular positions aren't required to comply with the same rules as full-time jobs. Meaning, they can do what they want when they want. Now I don't profess to know the Beechwood District policies on hiring, but there certainly are no KHSAA restrictions. I suspect this will all be done well before Spring Break though.

Cincinnati Reds 2023 Preseason “Hot Stove League” Discussion
This will be a dismal, albeit interesting, season. They will be bad by MLB standards but there are some interesting and entertaining potential young stars that will be fun to watch if they can keep their enthusiasm through 100 losses.

Coach Sorrell Reaches 200 Wins
Long time Bellevue Girls Basketball Coach Tommy Sorrell reached the 200-win milestone this past Saturday with a win at Augusta. Coach Sorrell is one the really good guys in the sport and also one heck of a good coach. His loyalty to the small school is admirable and much, much appreciated by those in the community. Congratulations coach!

Fighting in High School Football
This is a trend that is disturbing at the very least. Kids who think fighting is the answer is nothing new, but coaches who see this as an acceptable form of competitiveness is. That there is not a more widespread level of discipline is directly attributable to coaches and school administration who place winning above the other virtues of sport. Winning, or the chance to win, has replaced the instillment of sportsmanship and class in competition in far, far too many schools. When winning becomes the ONLY measuring stick for success, then this is what you get. And no, I'm hardly a "give everybody a trophy" kind of guy. We just seem to have lost the concept of the values of sport and competition in favor of win at all costs. at least, in my humble opinion.

Bellevue season over? (Confirmed)
The enrollment number at the Middle/High School is actually 362. And remember, that is grades 6 through 12. There are only 640 kids in the ENTIRE school District. Now I don't say that as an excuse or as a negative, it's just that there has been so much false and incomplete information (both innocently and by some with other agendas) spread about this situation. Despite the clear problems this decision has caused for many involved parties, it was absolutely the correct decision for the kids at Bellevue. Nobody involved in the decision process, and it WAS a process, was happy with the outcome, but it WAS the correct decision. It will be a tough road back to regain where the program once was, but you can be certain that the people involved with Bellevue athletics are committed to pursuing that goal. The consolidation issue is one for the administrations of those districts to wrangle. Right here, right now, the aim is to re-establish a proud and historically strong program. Whatever and however long it takes.

Beechwood at Covington Catholic Predictions/Updates ***Upset Alert***
. . . as long as the adults keep everything in perspective. Aren't you the optimistic one! In all seriousness, I agree with you whole heartedly. Let's hope the adults all stay in charge.

Simon Kenton Homecoming Game Canceled?
Is there more to this story? I would think there has to be some kind of explanation. Just bailing on a contracted game simply isn't done by reputable programs. Mix-up maybe?

Texas Commit Helmers Leaves Assumption Program
I indeed do. I dealt with it and we moved on.

Texas Commit Helmers Leaves Assumption Program
If it appears I alluded to this in this case in particular my apologies. Not what I meant to say as I have zero knowledge of this particular instance. How often it happens in each particular sport however is certainly up for debate. I have seen it first hand in the two sports I mentioned as well as baseball.
-
Texas Commit Helmers Leaves Assumption Program
And let's say it out loud, it is also done on the dubious advice of SOME AAU/select/travel/club coaches and programs. I say SOME because my experience is that it is a clear minority of those coaches and programs. However, it IS definitely a thing in many sports now, particularly in volleyball and soccer.

Will this one reach the epic numbers of the original hire thread? Got my popcorn!

Manual Baseball Coach Terminated, but Fights Back
After reading the exchanges, the Principal appears as an entitled, unprofessional "Daddy-Ball" type bully and has zero business leading an institution of the caliber of Manual High School. The AD needs to grow a spine or find another line of work. Neither of them has any place in high-level athletics.

Newport - Best Players since 2012
The two 8th graders they had this year both have the potential to eclipse all of the above mentioned players, and those are some pretty seriously talented young men.

MAJOR REVISION to KRS 156.070 regarding athletic transfers in Kentucky.
The legal challenges to this will be many and wide-ranging. The finer points of this decision were clearly not considered and the overall effect looks discriminatory. Why athletes and not the brass section? Is there a reason the drama dept. is excluded from this very specifically aimed statute? (Yes, I'm well aware of the intent here) I can't see how this can hold up in any way shape or form.

KHSAA Eyeing Possible Change To Transfer Rules
You are 100% correct. CLASSIFY THE SPORTS KHSAA. ALL THE SPORTS. I find it incredibly naive to think this will not create an even wider disparity in athletics. It already is not an even playing field, this makes it much, much worse. If you want to go elsewhere, then go. But let's be honest enough to give everyone something to play for and not just become cannon fodder. And no, I'm NOT a give everybody a trophy type. Far, far from it.

John Higgins
That is correct. Most top officials are hired by multiple conferences (2 or 3 usually) and are reviewed annually as well as assessed and rated by coaches. With the shortage of officials even at that high level (not nearly as bad as high school, but a consideration none-the-less) it says something when you can't get work where you once did.

Kentucky 66 Alabama 55
Win in multiple ways? Building solid depth? Team chemistry? Solid rotations? Getting better? Can't be true. If it was that would mean they have solid coaching and as some on here KNOW, Coach Cal just rolls out the balls and says play. Oh, and if you haven't been paying attention, their defensive rotations are tremendous of late. Do they miss a couple now and again? Sure. But their defense has been more than solid. But again, they just automatically know that stuff right?

What is the problem with Brooks?
Not what I said at all.

What is the problem with Brooks?
I think you have to look at what he does bring, and there are things. He understands the flow of the offense and doesn't take shots away from the true legitimate scorers on this team. He sets a ton of screens and typically doesn't turn the ball over much (There have been some exceptions, yes). He plays decent defense against a 3, 4 or 5 and on the odd 2 when needed. I think fans believe he gets lost in the offense because he doesn't always look to "get his" so he lacks that scorer's mentality. I believe he fits this team well for those reasons. Replaceable? Absolutely, which is actually another plus in my book. Need a higher energy guy? Plug in Toppin for short spurts. Need another ball handler? Mintz. Need minutes for Ware or Collins? There's your spot. His mid-range jumper has indeed been valuable in games this year and he draws his defender out because he can shoot the three at times. Flash? No. Good for this group? I think so.
