Simon Kenton Homecoming Game Canceled?

Featured Replies

SK was supposed to host Connersville next week. It was homecoming for the Pioneers. But apparently Connersville broke contract and according to their schedule are playing a school called Speedway. Anyone know any teams needing a game next week contact Simon Kenton. I feel terrible for all the Simon Kenton students.

That sucks.  I hope SK can find another team to play.

Do you still have an open week on the calendar later in the year?

Maybe that would give them more time.

Tonight/this week is their bye week.

This is alot of work, but I think it would be worth it for the kids.

Check and see if any of your remaining opponents have open days next week.  If they do, you could ask them to switch dates and then use their date as a make up.  It gets complicated quick, but could be doable.  Just trying to think of a way.

I just checked schedules for SK and their remaining opponents. There are some possible options.

I have no idea what they are going to do.

What happens with RPI in a case like this?

Is there more to this story?  I would think there has to be some kind of explanation.  Just bailing on a contracted game simply isn't done by reputable programs.  Mix-up maybe?

Far from clear because I'm not sure if this is technically a forfeit since they're instead playing another team, but the KHSAA website says this:

What happens if a game is canceled and can’t be rescheduled?

  • Because the RPI system works off of averages, it won’t make a difference in the final formula if a game cannot be rescheduled.
  • It would not penalize, nor benefit, any team involved in that scenario.

How do schools that drop programs affect the RPI?

  • If a school drops a program prior to the start their competitive season, no forfeits will be involved.
  • Instead, their opponents now have open dates in the sports where they were scheduled to play the teams who dropped their program, and they are free to try and find another game, if possible.
  • If a school drops a program after their competitive season has started, that team shall forfeit their remaining games to their opponents.
  • In this instance, the competitive season is defined as the first day a team plays in a contest.

The Speedway Sparkplugs (that is amazing, you have to admit) have had Connersville on their schedule for 9/23 since before the season FYI.

SK played Connersville at Connersville last year and they where supposed to play here this year for SK homecoming.

I'm sure that is all accurate, I'm simply saying Speedway has had Connersville on their schedule for the 23rd all year, it wasn't some recent change.  Sounds like someone at SK and someone at Connersville had a "failure to communicate."

Not for me to cast aspersions either way, just pointing out this wasn't some recent change as your OP made it seem (perhaps unintentionally, perhaps not).

SK had a 2 year contract with them they played them last year on the 24th and was scheduled to play on the 23rd. I was told Connersville broke out of the contract for what ever reason and ruined SKs homecoming game.
