Highlands 57 Dayton 53
At the beginning of the 2nd half the possession was awarded to Dayton after what seemed like a lengthy conference between the 3 officials. Although I wasn't watching it too closely, the HHS scorekeeper was emphatic that the ball should have been awarded to the Birds after halftime. Of course, Dayton nails a trey to cut the lead to 7 and Birds only scored 7 in the 3rd and 11 in the 4th quarter, as alluded to by Qryche11. Although the possession arrow didn't cost the Birds the game, it certainly made a difference in the 2nd half attitude shown by the Dayton players.

Highlands 57 Dayton 53
Towles was getting hacked all night but as the reigning Ky Mr Football unfortunately he's not going to get any calls in the opponent's gym. Dayton has a scrappy bunch of players.

Highlands 59 Beechwood 42
Turner had shown glimpses of brilliance in a few games, scoring 20+ points. Highlands will need someone to step up if they are going to challenge NCC for the district championship.

37th Distict Tournament Set
Didn't follow the Eagles too closely but it seems that Scott came out smelling like a rose on the coin flip. Saw CC and BB play and both are very capable of going deep into the regional tourney.

Most Talented 3 Sport Athlete in NKY History
Although he went into the national baseball HOF as a pitcher, Jim Bunning from Southgate was a 3 sport star for St. Xavier in the late 40s. Probably not widely known that he went to Xavier University on a basketball scholarship and played an excellent split end on the gridiron. Many of the names mentioned in this thread were outstanding players in their own right but how many made either the baseball, football, or basketball hall of fame in their respective sport?

Called his dad yesterday to congratulate Ozzy and the family. Go Cats.

Goose Cohorn Commits
Absolutely no disrespect meant by my earlier post. Cohorn is a tough hard nosed player who will succeed at TMC.

Goose Cohorn Commits
Good for him. TMC has really found a niche with N.Ky/Greater Cincy kids who are capable of playing college football but are not top flight players for whatever reason. While watching him play I always thought TMC would be a good fit for him.

Holy Cross 57 Highlands 50
Holy Cross shot 24 free throws compared to Highlands's 6. ... and Highlands only made 2 of those 6. The fact that the Birds had 25 turnovers and the game was as close as it was late in the 4th is amazing.

36th District Draw
What nights do the Birds play, assuming they beat Dayton, and then Bellevue, and then presumably NCC?
-
Newport Central Catholic 48 Brossart 32
Saw him on crutches over the weekend. Very talented but a high ankle sprain can linger if you try and come back too soon. NCC should be in a good position to move on to the regional with Newport, HHS, Dayton, and Bellevue in the districts.

Best Coaches ever for NCC

Highlands Austin Sheehan offered Preferred Walk on by...
LN's advice is spot on. If Austin was 6'1" like Mr. Quick, there would be no discussion. He'd have multiple D-1 offers. I understand he''s working hard to get his weight up. Good luck Austin.

Nations #1 High school QB leaves LSU
It seems the early enrolling and graduating early (via diploma or GED) is becoming more frequent. I'm curious if there has been any data collected for the HS Seniors who pursue that path to determine if it helps their chances of playing sooner in college and if so, did they have more success when they played in college?

Nations #1 High school QB leaves LSU
I'm not surprised. He was a verbal to IU, then to LSU, and now ND. There's still 2+ weeks until signing day.. Stay tuned...

Patrick Towles named to Parade All-American team
After speaking with Coach Mueller tonight, I think the only other HHS player to make the Parade AA team was Rob Smith. Very well deserved.

"That's My Boy" Award
I think HHS' Pat Towles has been nominated as well.

Newport Central Catholic 52 Boone County 49
Nice to see Jake Schulte gets some minutes for the Breds. He's been battling an illness for approx. a month and I think last night was his 1st game back in almost a month.

Newport 71 Highlands 69
The Birds trailed in the 1st half by a large margin (maybe 18 points) but kept chipping into the lead but were never able to tie or get the lead. Had several chances to tie with 7 seconds left but missed a contested layup. Several missed FTs and only 2 made 3s as I recall (both by back up PG Buten) doomed the Birds.

Jags' coach reminds me of KSU's Frank Martin.

Flagrant Fouls from HS game Washington state.
34 and 42 are hack jobs. Wow. Their coach must let them hack in practice too. After foul #5 No. 34 has a big smile on his face. It's as if they were fouling intentionally so bloggers everywhere could see if 16000 times on U tube.

Quick and Towles Make ESPN All-American Team
Wonder if Trent Dilfer had any vote @ ESPN? I think top 3 in the nation according to ESPN beats the top 11, according to Mr Dilfer. Congrats 2 Mr. Quick too as he had a phenomenal season.
