  1. NFHS Rule 2 Section 20 Art. 2 states and I quote: "Targeting is an act by any player who takes aim and initiates contact against an opponent above the shoulders with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbows or shoulders."
  2. With a player 30-40 yards behind the play with no chance of making a play, and get's a cheap shot, then your statement of "If you don't want to get hit, don't play" is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard. Kid has given up on the play and you have a "thug" who is wanting to get a hit in, should be flagged and ejected. There is no place for that kind of hit in football period!
  3. After viewing the criteria (Validation beyond high school does matter), then I have some issues with the list. Bush never played QB in college or the Pro's, he should be considered a running back since his claim to fame came at that position. Phil Simms is way to low, this guy is a Super Bowl winning QB, has got to be higher than 8. Tim Couch, had he not played on a sorry Cleveland Brown team could have been a possible all-pro and who knows what he would have won. I think he is the clear cut #1 . As for Redman and the Brohm's on the list yes, but they have to be way down. I am not impressed with High School stats. Kids can produce great numbers in high school, but does it translate to the next 2 levels. Redman, was a less than average QB after college, as was Brohm, both career backups. Even Jared who does have a ring was was a back up. Phil was a starter as was Couch, those two are the clear cut 1 & 2 in my book. But hey guess what, my opinion and a $1.06 will get you a large Coke at McDonald's.
  4. Although early in the season, Daviess County is the only Kentucky team to beat McCracken Co. However, it appears that Daviess while winning the 3rd Region tourney, they lost their Centerfielder and #2 hitter in the lineup with a tore ACL in last night's championship game. Don't think they will be one of the first 4 out.
  5. Jumper Dad, you missed the point of my post. The short sightedness was on the part of the Board. They made a decision, cast a vote without all the facts. Shame on them. You know what you can and cannot do before you cast a vote. That fact only discredits them from a point of a leadership position. If, you don't have all the facts, you postpone a vote. It's like this, if a person steals from you, while they may or may not make restitution, they are always a thief. These folks cast a vote to do something. Now they have gone back on their word. How can you trust them to keep their word on anything else? If I was Mr. Butcher, I would watch my back, because you can not trust a person that does not keep their word, in this case their vote.
  6. I personally hope the folks of Pulaski County remember the names of these board members when re-election time comes. My Dad always said, don't write a check with your mouth, that your backside can't cash!" That's what this board did, voted to do this and then didn't follow through. Shame on them!!!
  7. I started this thread and allow me to define what I really meant. In the 3rd Region until last year Owensboro Catholic was the bench mark of 3rd region softball. Everyone knew, that the 3rd region championship went through OCHS. Last year for the first time in the history of girls softball OCHS did not make the regional tourney. Now for the 2nd year in a row OCHS doesn't make they regional tourney. This was meant as no disrespect to OCHS or Coach Randolph, nor was it meant to say that Apollo didn't deserve to be there.
  8. 3rd Region going to try to start at 1 PM in Edmonson County.
  9. Going to be an interesting 3rd Regional Tourney, at Edmonson.
  10. For the 2nd year in a row, the most dominant team in the 3rd Region and one of the most dominant girls softball program in the state of Kentucky doesn't make it out of the district. Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces was defeated by 9th District and 3rd Region defending Champion Apollo Lady E-Gals 6-0.
  11. I've been a Steeler fan, my whole life, I remember when we draft, Mean Joe, Terry and so on, and we hired Noll as coach. Overall, I'm please, I'd say our draft was B-, not sure why we took the Moates Kid we needed more help on the DB area, good picks but undersized. As for Dupree, not sure what kind of "D" we will be other than the 3-4 since LeBeau is gone. With LeBeau gone, not sure of the "zone blitzing" we will do. The last couple of OLB we have picked has not done well (Jarvis and Shaziter) so hope Dupree works out better.
  12. The All "A" Classic, unlike the 16 KHSAA State Tourney, is held during the school year. The KHSAA tourney starts on Friday night, after school year has ended, with all 16 teams playing their first game. The All "A" doesn't get to start till Saturday morning. The KHSAA tourney is not on a time restraint to get finished. The All "A" has to be completed by Sunday, in addition you have teams that have to drive several hours and have to be in school on Monday. This tourney the last several years in O'boro, has faced terrible weather conditions, and when you are playing an outdoor game, you are subject to the elements. With the rain we had in O'boro last weekend, it would have been late Saturday before we could have gotten the fields ready to play, if at all, and if the "double elimination" tourney was continued Sunday it would have been late Sunday night before we had a winner. The decision to tarp one field, enabled them to play on Sunday Morning, the single elimination, which still took a couple hours to get ready to play, because the tarp doesn't cover the entire infield. While it may not be the best scenario, it still gives the small schools a chance to be crowned a State Champ, that other wise they may never get this opportunity!
  13. Great Job Mike Carey! Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer!
  14. This ranking and a $1.06 will get you a coke at McDonalds. This means nothing, as I've stated previously, the trophy is in the case at OHS and the banner will be flying from OHS gym and the Devils will be wearing the rings.
  15. I wonder how Trinity feels knowing they are the "best" team in the State of Kentucky, but Owensboro has the trophy and will be getting the rings? I can tell you this Owensboro is going to keep the trophy, and hang the banner and wear their rings proudly.
  16. Great tourney. Just wish teams would have had some practice and game time in before this big tourney. You could tell some teams had not been on the field much. Teams I was impressed with Scott Co.; Daviess County; Madisonville North Hopkins; Teams that I was disappointed with Central Hardin; Owensboro Catholic, but the good thing is it's early, and I'm sure come the end of May the cream will rise to the top!
  17. I love the old format, you could go up on Friday and see 4 good games and spend one night in a hotel, see two good games Saturday Morning and then the championship game Saturday night and drive home and not be out all that expense.
  18. Congrats to Owensboro on their 43 trip to the Sweet16 (A state record) they win their 4 state title in school history. Coach Rod Drake wins the daily double. Won the State Title as a player in 1980 and a coach in 2015.
  19. While Simmons and Matlock were both very good players were they the best in the west? What about Holman and Miller from Owensboro? Where are they in the discussion?
  20. I know it's Joe B, but let's be real here, he has no business giving the girls award out. Why not have Coach Matthew Mitchell or Jeff Walz give the award out? Over the last several years, Kentucky has produced a whole lot more D-1 girls player's than we have boys? Sara Hammond, Becca Greenwell, Makayla Epps, Rogers kid at UK just to name a few, tell me how my HIGH impact boys KY has produced?
  21. I for one can only hope they get beat. That being said, since the Cavaliers are in the NBA I don't see them getting beat by anyone.
  22. Just got home from the Girls Sweet 16. Great tourney. Congrats to Holy Cross, the first girls team from the 9th Region to win a Girls Sweet 16!. Holy Cross did 4 things remarkably well and thus the reason they are the State Champs. First, one of the best lock down defense's in girls basketball I've seen. Second, they take care of the basketball, very few turnover's committed, yet their pressure makes you turn the ball over. Third, they do not take ill advised shots. They move the ball and get good looks at the basket. Last but not least, they are very, well coached. When you have those 4 things very tough to beat. Holy Cross, congrats!
  23. Wonder who agrees now that this E-town team is better than the Marion County team from 2 years ago?
