Surprisingly I have not seen this story in the Courier-Journal or on Frakes’ X account. Last year they were all over it with Quisenberry same day. Seems like Herald-Leader and Courier-Journal would give this some press. A million posts about high school football, but not this? Strange.

I don't really see the lack of state-wide press about Hampton winning the Gatorade Player of th Year is intended as a dig on Hampton or as a dig on covering the western half of the state. I just searched "Quisenberry" and "Hampton," both, on the X accounts for the Courier-Journal's prep writer Jason Frakes & the Herald-Leader's prep writer Jared Peck, and didn't come up with a hit for either of them.

Searching the both the Courier-Journal's website and the Herald-Leader's website, both papers did have articles posted about Quisenberry winning Mr. Football last year. (This year's Mr. Football winner has not been announced yet.)

Again searching the two newspapers' websites, I didn't find any mention of Quisenberry's Gatorade Player of the Year win last year from the Herald-Leader, and I didn't see any mention of it in the Courier-Journal until this article was posted in July 2025, which was 7 full months after he won the award - Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year: Here's Where The Last 10 Award Winners Are Now - and that article isn't even written specifically about Quisenberry, although it does include him.

@Colonels_Wear_Blue I’m not saying it’s a dig rather than a meh.  Frakes did post about it and had an article on Quisenberry - just wondering aloud why it isn’t the same this year.

Fair.

I think a lot of that is just the state of prep sports reporting in the current day. Newspapers are a dying breed. Most papers only have a single writer covering sports, and much of their "statewide" prep coverage (if they have any) is reliant on the few remaining freelance writers there are around the state. So I think oftentimes we're just seeing more and more potential stories go un-reported.

Over 2000 yards rushing 31 rushing TD’s - a number of records for OHS…leads team to state title and Gatorade player of year in state - give him the trophy please!
