🏆Class 5A State Championship🏆

🔱 Owensboro (12-2, 5A #2)
vs.
☠️ Pulaski County (12-2, 5A #5)

🗞 Dashing Devils And Mighty Maroons Vie For 5A Supremacy

The crisp, damp air of autumn is giving way to the bone chill of winter. Great seasons are at the precipice of immortality.

This is a transformational time of year.

Owensboro has shape shifted from a mass of early season disenchantment to a born again bullet train speeding toward the city's first state title in four decades.

Evan Hampton lights the way for the men of Senior High as he looks to punctuate a Mr. Football campaign after running wild and free in the region final and semifinal rounds. The defense has been suffocating during this twelve game win streak, allowing 8.3 ppg.

Pulaski County has tapped into a well of fortitude after facing its own adversity. The Maroons were roughed up mid-season and lost their starting quarterback, then faded from the championship conversation in favor of top ranked Wofo, the surging Red Devils, and trendy Atherton, whom they just blanked to reach Lexington.

Kasen Brock leads ‘never say die’ Pulaski to its fifth championship game appearance. The first four came consecutively from 2013-2016.

The Red Devils have swung and missed four times since their last title in 1986.

This would be championship #3 for Owensboro and #2 for Pulaski County.

A long and winding road has led both teams to the brink of gridiron glory. All that remains is penning the final act.

Has Owensboro made a deal of Faustian proportions, or can the Maroons jerk a knot in the Devils’ tail?

This could turn out to be the best game of the 6 played in Lexington.

Pulaski County has had a great season, but I'm pulling for the Red Devils to get the big win and bring the hardware back to Frederica Street one more time!

Go Red Devils!

I just don’t see Pulaski pulling this off. It’s hard for me to say it’s going to be close. I said the same about Woodford and we came out and just put the foot on their throat.

I just don’t think anyone can stop Hampton right now

A lot of people were saying that Atherton was going to do the same thing….

Seems like RPI has worked out to get the #1 and 2 ranked teams into the state championship.

Owensboro is a bit different than Atherton, don’t think the Maroons are going to hold these Devils to 0. I expect this to be a close hard hitting game. Give me the Devils in 28-17 contest.

Congrats to both teams for taking care of business. I don’t think it’s surprising at all that this is the matchup but it might be a bit surprising how dominant they were. The Devils haven’t been held under 40 since early September but the Pulaski defense has been super stingy, especially recently. I think Pulaski will limit Owensboro some but at the end of the day they have so many weapons and I will take the Devils 31-21.

After seeing Owensboro earlier this year, the fact that they are here is impressive to me.  To get to this point after the showing the 1st 2 weeks of the season, is a huge credit to their players and coaches.  To be honest, they are one of two teams that will be playing at Kroger Field that is a shock for me with the other being Franklin County.  Pulaski County will bring a fight, but I think Owensboro is just playing so well right now, they ride that momentum to a state title.  I'll take Owensboro 28-17.

Pulaski played a great game from start to finish against Atherton. Similar comments again. If Pulaski starts strong and can play their style of football this one will be close. Not sure Owensboro has played an opponent like Pulaski yet.

How does this Owensboro team compare to those Bowling Green teams that Pulaski had no answer for (2015)?

Pulaski has seen athleticism equal to that of Owensboro (Atherton).

Owensboro has not seen an OL or run game equal to what Pulaski will bring to the table, and yes, that includes CAL and St. X (they're not even close up front to Pulaski).

That said, it's hard to pick against the Devils right now. They seem to be a totally different team than they were at the start of the year.

For Pulaski, I think it comes down to whether they can play another game like they did last night.

I’m sure they have played somebody like Pulaski I'd say Greenwood was similar as they were physical with a strong run game, ate up a bunch of clock against the Devils. Greenwood even played South Warren much closer than Pulaski….  The Devils haven’t played slack schedule like Atherton. 7 of the teams they faced were top 50 in KY regardless of class with 5 of those being wins. I’d say O’s schedule was harder than Pulaski’s.. I’d dare say the Devils are better than South Warren at this moment. O is playing good football right now.
