DragonFire Posted November 29 Posted November 29 If the finals can match the energy of the semifinals, we are in for a dandy.... Franklin County is in the state finals for the second consecutive year, coming back from deficits of 7-0 and 14-7 to secure the 21-14 victory over Paducah Tilghman in what amounted to a defensive struggle for the two high flying offenses - the point totals were the lowest for both teams this year. In doing so they avenged a loss in the previous state final, and their only loss in the last 29 games. Now they'll take aim at the team that kept them from the state final the previous year, a team that kept them from from a state title in 2020, the heavyweight of the class - Boyle County. The Rebels did not have any easier of a time in putting away a game Corbin squad that matched them step for step the whole game. Boyle County never trailed, but needed a blocked PAT to prevent going down when it was 27 all, and then a clutch PAT block with 3:17 remaining put Boyle County helped the Rebels preserve a 34-33 lead and secure the victory by that score. For Boyle County, it is their sixth appearance in the state title game in the past seven years. This is the sixth meeting between the two teams during the Riherds era - every single one of the previous five won by Boyle County. That includes the aforementioned 2023 semifinal matchup and 2020 state final (decided in overtime), but also an additional playoff meeting in 2008. Boyle County enters this game as the #1 team in the final 4A rankings, 13-1 and winners of 11 in a row. Franklin County is a perfect 14-0, ranked #5 in the final rankings, and have won 41 of their previous 43 games. But they want that state title. Boyle County has been the favorite for months - can they finish the job? Or was that close call with Corbin a sign of things to come, and Franklin County finally pushes through to take down the Rebels? 1 1
TheDeuce Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Boyle has played a MUCH tougher schedule and will be the best team Franklin County has played by a wide margin. You can’t say the same thing about FC for Boyle. FC’s defense is tough, but I think Boyle is too much for the Flyers. 4
theguru Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Who Ya With! Franklin County has had a great year but I think Boyle wins by two or three touchdowns. 3
jvdfc Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I'll roll with the Flyers! Well coached, and they will give it their all. Go Flyers!! 1

To be the man, you gotta beat the man. Regardless of how the Boyle game ended you can't take anything away from them. However, Boyle is beatable and it will take a solid game from the Flyers!! With that said Franklin County has consistently been in the top part of 4A six straight regional championships and now I believe 3-3 in semi final games. Second straight State Championship game. Only one thing left to finally get ahold of and that's a State Championship. I truly believe the grit and drive of these young men is enough to finally kick down that door ! Tall task ahead and not taking anything away from a program like Boyle who is obviously one of the best in the state, but it comes down to what happens when you put the pads on!!! Hopefully a good clean game with no injuries and Franklin County brings home that elusive state championship!!! Future is bright at 1100 east main!!! #County 3

RetiredCoach1968 Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I wouldn’t expect this to be that close I’m going Boyle 42-21
Statsdontlie Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I think Boyle will win going away. Corbin and Boyle were the best 4A teams left in the final 4.

Agreed. There are state titles in Franklin County's future. Their freshman class is probably the best in the state overall. After seeing them in early August, I would have never predicted them to be at Kroger Field this weekend. However, the state titles are just that...in the future. I think Boyle County pulls this one out and I'll say it's 35-20. 1
Rebel Posted November 30 Posted November 30 This is going to be a interesting week for me. My grandsons attend school in Franklin County and I've already offered some of my items for show and tell. If only this week was grandparents day! 🤣 I will say this about what Franklin County and the involvement they have with the community. They do it the right way! The upperclassman attend the younger schools and help greet the kids in the carpool lane. They are involved with the young kids and get them excited to grow up and become a Flyer. I've already been told that they are having special days this week to get the community involved. Sock it to them day. Blue and gold day. It's going to be a exciting week for this household. 2

I have seen probably 20 teams proclaim their freshman class as best in the state. Know what happens? Reality begins to rear its ugly head before their junior season. Coaching, player maturity, injuries, transfers all begin to change ranking of players and team potential. Franklin Co. should be very aware of this with their experience with Moorman that was touted as an all world up to his Junior season. Then other players caught up to him. They became stronger, faster and he didn't improve. I am sure you have good freshmen. So do most of the teams you have to compete with. You have to take care of business now and the near future, not 3 years down the road. 1
RetiredCoach1968 Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Think about this for Boyle’s team, I don’t recall many KY teams over the years beating or playing these type teams in a single season it is very impressive to me… look at these wins, battle tested 1. LCA 2. Ballard 3. St Xavier 4. Frederick Douglas 5. Highlands 6. Covington Catholic 7. Corbin 2 1
BigBoss69 Posted December 1 Posted December 1 I’ll never pick against Coach Haddix and that staff. Boyle 35 Franklin 27 1
