Towles vs. Pike
I recently watched a show about what it takes to be a great quarterback on ESPN. The consensus pretty much was that great physical attributes were common, but that it was the intangibles that ultimately separated most quarterbacks, particularly at the highest level.

Highlands 56 Holy Cross 54
The Birds nearly imploded in the 4th quarter after starting the quarter off being up 14 or 15. There were a couple of guys that completely lost it in the quarter. I blame that on a lack of experience. Most of these kids for Highlands didn't play a ton last year especially in games going down to the wire. Highlands wingmen for some reason for jumping out on #23 for HC and leaving #2 or #4 I forget which wide open in the corner. I don't think #23 hit a jump shot all night. If the players don't recognize this the coaching staff should. Highlands did show tonight that when they get rolling they can certainly compete. They have a few games left to figure out how to finish strong. I certainly hope Alex Dean's injury was minor and he's back in the line-up Thursday.

Zeke Pike and Joe Manley - SN Top 150
I'm not quite sure that I would believe that. There are a lot of kids out there including Towles that are having very good conversations with many schools that aren't running to Scout or Rivals and telling them about it. Realistically you could call Scout right now and tell them that Mars offered your kid and somebody from there would put it in your kid's profile. I do know that Towles and Drake Bruns are going to Texas next week to participate in the Army All American Bowl Combine. This has become all about marketing. The days of, "if he's good enough they'll find him," are over. Because of that some assume there isn't much going on with a player because the player has chosen to keep his recruiting activities more private. For a 2012 kid the bottom line is not where you might be going on Dec. 2010 but rather where you are on Sept. 2012. And for all of those who say KY high school football is weak this thread proves how strong it is. You have one of the top 150 juniors in the country that didn't even get honorable mention status on the KY AP All-State team. This state must be loaded with talent.:thumb:

Who do they have tomorrow?

Lincoln County 61 Highlands 52
I hope this is the case Qryche11. I'm pretty sure that Towles will not be making the trip today. I can't wait to see a healthy Birds team!!

Highlands Frosh Football 2011
I think there will be an Abner in the group of freshman. He has nice hands, runs well and is pretty tall.

Dixie Heights 67 Highlands 43
He did more than smile Solomon. He put his hand up in the air several times motioning for the Highlands cheering section to keep bringing it on. I saw this, but personally as a fan watching the game I had no problem with this. I thought it was silly, but part of the game. If I'm Dixie's coach I'm wanting him not get so caught up in the hoopla. I didn't see the sign that was up because I was behind the student section. If it said what it was supposed to have said then I agree it's classless. I agree with Qrychee11 about the region being wide open. Highlands last night was missing 6'7 Stewart and 6'3 Crowley and played with a post player who has participated in only about 5 or 6 practices. The score doesn't reflect a great deal about this game last night. Additionally I thought Carter New played pretty well last night. He's physically gotten a lot stronger and that will really help him. Hatton is the game changer for Dixie. He's very poised and from a fundamental perspective he's extremely sound. He does what guards should do and that’s make everybody on your team better. Good luck to both teams throughout the remainder of the year.

Dixie Heights 67 Highlands 43
I believe they were only down by 10 with 6 min left in the game. This is the most wide open region I've seen in about 20 years.

Anybody have a box score for this one?

Highlands/Christian County 5A State Final (Who wins and why?)
The Birds will win this thing I have no doubt. Who cares if it's by 50 or 5. All the long hours and hard work will be realized Saturday. If I'm sounding arrogant or over confident I'm certainly not trying to be. I just have enough faith in the Highlands system to know that this is what they've been preparing to do for the last 50 weeks or so. There are no ifs, ands or buts here. Highlands winning this game isn't contingent on anything or anyone, though Santa did come a little early this year.

Top hitters in NKY
Without a doubt Abner and Seidle. These are not one hit wonders, but did this on a weekly basis.

Harlan County vs. Highlands (11/26) - Who wins and why?
"Oh for the love of Pete". Please don't hang your hat on the haves and the have nots speech. You do your team and community a disservice with those types of comments.

Highlands 21 Johnson Central 14
Anybody have the time of possession for both teams?
-
Highlands 21 Johnson Central 14
The Birds did what they had to do. Sheehan with a great play and Gold with a big third down conversion. Woulda, coulda, shoulda with JC. You weren't playing Woodford or Covington Catholic tonight.

The Ryle/Simon Loser
I thought this was a medicore Highlands team this year.

Highlands 42 Dixie Heights 28
I heard the young man from Dixie who put the hit on Towles sent him an email apologizing for the hit and hoped he was going to be ok. Towles's response according to the person making this statement was that it was a great hit and there was no need for any apology. I think it was a pretty classy move on the part of the young man from Dixie to inquire.

5A: Highlands/Johnson Central predictions
I know peple freak out about numbers, but some can be significant. Highlands defense really matches up well with both the teams that beat JC. Boyle has given up roughly 850 yards rushing this year. Bell has given up 1104 yards rushing this year not counting their last game. Highlands has given up 1087 yards rushing this year. I can only back 12 years, but I couldn't find a game where Highlands lost to a Kentucky team that as a team had less than a 1000 yards passing on the year. Though JC's stats are hard to find, based on the 7 games I found KHSAA stats for indicate they have about 420 yards in passing offense. I think Covington Catholic had given up over 2500 yards rushing prior to the JC game.
